Question from FnafFan23494 (22:48, 6 January 2023)
[edit]how do I create my own article on Wikipedia? --FnafFan23494 (talk) 22:48, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
- @FnafFan23494 If you're being paid by, are related to, or are the subject of a potential article, you really shouldn't create the article. It's too complicated for new editors (see our conflict of interest policy and the simplified summary of it).
- On the other hand, if that doesn't apply to you, you can create it via articles for creation. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 00:17, 7 January 2023 (UTC)
- Please tell me more. 98.97.38.39 (talk) 03:13, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
Thankyou for your constructive instructions re the new article TEAMCAVE Racing. It may be very difficult to find sources opposed to blogs on our website. We are a mature team just wanting to leave some history on who we are, where we are and what we have acheived. This is purely non professional. I am also hoping that other persons. contributors will add to this article, without a base it'll be near impossible as we are in Western Australia and the userbase is not as large as other cities and countries. Many thanks Rick CaveTEAMCAVE (talk) 03:09, 10 January 2023 (UTC) TEAMCAVE (talk) 03:09, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
- Who is Teamcave? 98.97.38.39 (talk) 03:13, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
- Someone else I'm interacting with. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 03:19, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
- @TEAMCAVE Firstly, I highly suspect this is a shared account, which goes against Wikipedias terms of use. For security and copyright reasons, Wikipedia accounts can only be used by one person, and cannot be passed on to your successor in the event of staff turnover. If the account isn't actually shared, you might be able to change the username, even though you're blocked. Also, I now know for certain that you are someone who is covered under Wikipedias "paid editing" terms of use, meaning you have to disclose you work for TEAMCAVE, regardless of username.
- Secondly, if TEAMCAVE only has blogs, etc. to use as sources, it doesn't yet qualify for a Wikipedia article, anyways. You'll have to find other ways to, as you put it,
leave some history on who we are, where we are and what we have acheived.

[edit]Hi Editor actually can you help me with the article as I'm Chef Ajai Sharma and creating the page for myself Mani12121995 (talk) 06:51, 16 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Mani12121995 That's actually a common mistake for newcomers; most people aren't going to have an article on Wikipedia so having an autobiography isn't a requirement to edit here. There's problems surrounding having an article on yourself anyways. For example, if there's a reliably sourced scandal in your professional life, it's going to end up on the article about you and stay there. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 06:57, 16 January 2023 (UTC)
- So I should create a biography instead of an article ? Mani12121995 (talk) 07:01, 16 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Mani12121995 You should concentrate on editing articles about other subjects when you're here. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 07:03, 16 January 2023 (UTC)

Question from Tfrtrouble on American chestnut (15:17, 17 January 2023)
[edit]Hi. I have a question. What should I do if I find a problem I don't know how to fix? Is there a way to alert more experienced editors. There is an article that seems to have some kind of referencing issues. The reference call-ups in the text seem to start at [3]. The numbers do seem match up with the reference list but I can't find where [1] and [2] are called up. If I click edit, the references start at [1] but there are now two fewer call-ups than on the references list and the numbers no longer match up. It is pretty weird. Maybe I am just missing something? --Tfrtrouble (talk) 15:17, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
- p.s. I'm sorry, I know your FAQ lists varies ways to get help, but I couldn't figure out what the best avenue was for an issue like this. Tfrtrouble (talk) 15:25, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Tfrtrouble You're fine to ask questions here. There's two citations in the infobox; on desktop, the infobox is to the right side. That's why the articles appears to start with [3]. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 04:26, 18 January 2023 (UTC)
- Ah great, thanks! It was the fact that the citation numbers change when you click edit (which I did for a different reason) that threw me. Still not sure why that happens but at least I know now that that can happen and the final article is still fine. Tfrtrouble (talk) 07:51, 18 January 2023 (UTC)

I was wondering if this draft could be moved to mainspace for the aid of improvement by adding the notability tag just like J'dess. I'm having issues with creating more topics on musicians because of lack of sufficient sources. Regards. WikiSpendo (talk) 16:23, 18 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Wikispendo No, drafts shouldn't be tagged for notability and moved into mainspace. You need to find reliable sources first, then the draft can be moved to mainspace. If you can't find sufficient source, the person doesn't qualify for an article. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 23:15, 18 January 2023 (UTC)
A vandal, perhaps?
[edit]Greetings
I came across the article Jaeson Ma and noticed a large amount of external links in the text. I noticed it was (most likely) the same person you warned about this last time who did it. Their contributions to the page may be worthwhile, but the external links need to be purged. If there is an edit conflict, I hope you may be able to assist Horsesizedduck (talk) 01:53, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Horsesizedduck You're right; I added another warning. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 04:44, 19 January 2023 (UTC)

- Ajai Mani12121995 (talk) 05:14, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
Hi I dream of horses, I came across this as the author added the full list to the Sarawak page. Pages on geopolitical entities are not the place to add long lists of tangentially relevant items, so the draft can't be merged there (nor should a similar draft be merged to a similar page). They're not my area, but Bibliography lists appear common (eg. Bibliography of the American Civil War), so I would like to suggest this be looked at again, as it isn't content that should be merged into an article. Best, CMD (talk) 09:58, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Chipmunkdavis Oh...that's a category of page that exists? Please accept my apologies. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 22:28, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
- No problem, as I said it is also not my area of editing, but I come across them every now and then and wonder about them. CMD (talk) 00:52, 20 January 2023 (UTC)
I want to have myself on Wikipedia so how can that be done
[edit]How do I get my name and information added to Wikipedia? IvanTuttle (talk) 19:16, 24 January 2023 (UTC)
- @IvanTuttle You don't. If having a Wikipedia article is inevitable, it appears without you having to intervene at all. If it's not inevitable, it's better to not have an article that people that don't particularly like you can edit, anyways. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 19:18, 24 January 2023 (UTC)
Question from LiveXcharlie (05:39, 25 January 2023)
[edit]Hello, I just created my 1st account with Wikipedia. My reason for creating the account is I have 2 affiliate websites. The parent company I'm affiliated with does not permit their affiliates to be indexed on Google Search. I just read an article that recommended creating a Wikipedia account for each site. Both domains were purchased through Google Domains, I can provide proof of ownership and or any other credentials. My question/s are, can I even create my own business account? Where do I start? --LiveXcharlie (talk) 05:39, 25 January 2023 (UTC)
- @LiveXcharlie Whatever article you were reading lied to you. You don't want articles on companies you work for/run. Any reliably sourced scandal will end up in the article and stay there. Any disgruntled ex-employee and competitor will have be quite motivated to add negative information, whether or not that information sticks around. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if that article (or the site that hosted it!) was advertising a 'paid editing' service. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 07:30, 25 January 2023 (UTC)
Deleted images
[edit]Concerning the new article on the Portraits of Frederick the Great I think the images you have deleted should be added back. Kunst-Theodor (talk) 03:10, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Kunst-Theodor I suspected someone might've said that, which is why I stated in the edit summary
(they can be added back as the article expands)
. You can see the full edit summary here and here. Basically, my concerns about the images being in the article have nothing to do with the quality of said images, but rather, whether or not it makes sense to have so many in such a short article. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 03:18, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
- To my mind, for reasons of comparability and clarity, it would be desirable to have the images in the article, as the artists' names are mentioned. Kunst-Theodor (talk) 03:35, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Kunst-Theodor I've been editing Wikipedia articles for years. Images are pretty low on the list of priorities. The first priority is reliable sourcing, and clearly communicating what those sources say in words comes pretty close to that. We're building an encyclopedia, not a repository of photos or paintings. [edit]Hi! I can appreciate that you don’t want malicious information posted about individuals but I’m including quotes (Redacted) because they’re relevant to keeping people safe (Redacted). I also included his activism work because I believe in it but I think there’s a difference between trying to malign someone and sharing a newspaper quote about allegations against him. I totally agree with your initial removal of content due to sources being Twitter but don’t understand why the quote from the south side newspaper keeps getting removed when it is relevant. Part of why there aren’t tons of sources available is because these communities so actively silence survivors. I am careful to use quotes and terms like “claims” and “alleged”. I do not know this man but as I create and edit different pages regarding art scenes, I feel like people have a right to know what has been said about leaders in them. Elttaruuu (talk) 04:30, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Elttaruuu Unfortunately, the accusations you are including in the article are actually putting you at risk for a defamation suit (this has happened in the past; at least one person has sued over accusations that he had been investigated for a serious crime). The Southside Newspaper source had a "staff" byline, so probably didn't go through editorial oversight. You really do need to stop. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 04:34, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
Okay that makes sense Elttaruuu (talk) 04:35, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
Also I noticed you don’t have a lot on your talk page. How do I go about archiving or deleting content from mine to free it up for more content? Not out of disrespect to those suggestions but more so I can declutter? Elttaruuu (talk) 04:37, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Elttaruuu Follow the instructions on User:MiszaBot, and User:lowercase sigmabot III will archive your talk page for you. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 04:39, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
Thanks ! And I appreciate your clarity and help Elttaruuu (talk) 04:40, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Elttaruuu: I encourage you to read through WP:RS, and compare our criteria for reliable sourcing with the information about the source you used, at South Side Weekly. It may be a borderline acceptable source for non-controversial information, but we really cannot use a volunteer publication for content this serious. A better source might be a different matter. For the same reason, posting the content here isn't okay, and I've removed it. Vanamonde (Talk) 04:41, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
