@Authentic1399 If you're using source editor, you can have a table inserted by pushing a button and then adding in the data you want to be in the table. There's more information here. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 06:37, 4 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Hot Flat Light (15:51, 2 June 2022)

[edit]

Hi I dream of horses, I'm interested in setting up a wiki page for a performing arts company that has been operating out of Peterborough, Ontario - for the last 30 years. Can you give me some advice on the best way to start? --Hot Flat Light (talk) 15:51, 2 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Hot Flat Light Any particular reason why you'd want to write an article (a complicated task!) this early on in your Wikipedia career? I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 15:55, 2 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The director & founder of the company is retiring after a 30 years, and I'd like to commemorate his cultural contribution to the community by creating a page for his non-profit arts company (that will continue on after his retirement). Hot Flat Light (talk) 16:16, 2 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Hot Flat Light Oh, how do you know him? I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 21:23, 2 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@I dream of horsesI've always been involved in the arts. I moved from NYC to this community 3 years ago, and have become involved in the arts community here. I've attended numerous performances presented by the company and have met the director on a number of occasions through their events. In my experience in NYC, high profile, non-profit arts companies that have been operating for a long period of time usually have a Wiki page. It seems to me this company should have a page too. So, I'm going to attempt to write an article. Thanks for your suggestions. Hot Flat Light (talk) 14:08, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Hot Flat Light This would be considered a conflict of interest since you know the director personally. You'll write a draft through articles for creation, and cite the draft with independent, third-party sources that have had editorial oversight. If you see a high-profile arts company Wikipedia article (or really, any article) that lacks the sources of the quality I've mentioned, you can either add those sources or nominate them for deletion; don't cite them as a reason why your draft should be accepted. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 19:22, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@I dream of horses Thank you for letting me know about this issue. I will make sure to quote reputable, third-party sources that have editorial oversight. I believe there should be enough 3rd party coverage of this arts company to verify their legitimacy. I'm experimenting in my sandbox at the moment, but will use the articles for creation when I submit for consideration. Thanks again for you input. Hot Flat Light (talk) 21:38, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Hot Flat Light You can actually use {{subst:submit}} in the sandbox once you're finished. There's a significant chance that the draft will be moved to "draftspace" if it gets declined, tho. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 00:03, 4 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@I dream of horsesokay, thanks for the tip Hot Flat Light (talk) 15:38, 6 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi! Thanks for your reply on my submission request, but I still don't understand it. For me, your "crystal ball" answer is wrong. The page is full of references and mentions some events that already took place. So could you please specify what you mean ?

Thanks Have a nice one

Lazargang (talk) 15:45, 6 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Lazargang: Odd, I don't see any mention of events that have taken place. --I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 15:55, 6 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The two first matches on the list (DR Congo vs Gabon, and Mauritania vs Sudan) took place on June the 4th, two days ago. Gabon won the first (1-0) and Mauritania won the second match (3-0). You can easily find these results online.
Moreover other similar pages of this event (2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification groups) have already been accepted, while they have the same references as this particular one. I really do not understand why this one is refused. Lazargang (talk) 18:35, 6 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Lazargang There's enough leeway on this kind of subject that I went ahead and reverted the decline. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 23:44, 6 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Question from E.B.Rose (13:41, 10 June 2022)

[edit]

Hello, I dream of horses! I'm E. B. Rose. I was wondering, what *doesn't* count as a minor edit? When I publish my changes there's that box that I can check for a "minor edit" but I'm not quite sure when I should or shouldn't check the box. --E.B.Rose (talk) 13:41, 10 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@E.B.Rose Good question! If you are adding or removing a lot of information, or if you are doing a potentially controversial edit, that would be a major edit and you shouldn't check the box. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 14:02, 10 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to wikipedia. I noted your removal of the categorization of CNN as being liberal. Judging from your offwiki info your decision may stem from Unconscious Bias and you may not be capable of having Wikipedia's Neutral Point of View policy (NPOV) Please review references as these may help you with your decision making process and discuss before making any changes. Thanks for your contributions to wikipedia! -Chuck — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chauser4 (talkcontribs) 08:10, 11 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Chauser4: Actually, if you read the hidden comment, consensus is on my side. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 08:12, 11 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Please review the outside references and discuss from that standpoint. The talks page you reference as support seems to tell the opposite. Again I strongly urge you to recuse yourself from this page due to your personal biases for the good of the community. Thank you Chauser4 (talk) 08:25, 11 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Chauser4 I do acknowledge that 0xDeadbeef closed a discussion about a month ago that we need to gather reliable sources to see if CNN is leftist or not; as someone who has been consistently editing for over a decade, I doubt you have the experience to do the edit you're trying to do. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 08:39, 11 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Chauser4: You are invited to split the history section of the CNN article to History of CNN, then perhaps you could have a summary of CNN controversies in the controversies section. 0xDeadbeef 09:58, 11 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Question from IBalancedAll (19:49, 11 June 2022)

[edit]

Hi I dream of horses (so do I now and then, indeed just last night about wild horses I saw some years ago above the Spiral Jetty on the Great Salt Lake, now unfortunately bereft of water).

Anyway, glad to meet you. I'm trying to work out a long article, about 7,000 words with about 70 citations, not counting secondary lists such as References, Publications, External Links etc, by working in my Sandbox. I would like to keep all my work there as I make changes, preview etc. I have checked Watch this page and Permanent. I also set it up so I am permanently Logged In.

But if I shut down and then come back to my Sandbox, all is gone. I did not hit Publish page because I'm not ready for a full review.

So, how do I SAVE the material I'm working on? Or since my article is fully written and I'm just inserting citations and notes etc, should I be working on another Wikipedia site rather than Sandbox? Or should I try another outside site such as MediaWiki?

Any suggestions for working on this long article and SAVING my work as I go would be great.

Cheers! --IBalancedAll (talk) 19:49, 11 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@IBalancedAll You have to hit publish page to save it. When it's ready for review, you type {{subst:submit}} at the top. If the draft gets declined, it's likely to get moved to articles for creation, but otherwise, it's going to mainspace. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 20:06, 11 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Sorry for another question, but just wanted to check in with you again. One of the suggested pages to edit that just popped up for me was "Michels Corporation," which is an oil and gas pipeline company. I added a section regarding climate change impact from a cited article. Encyclopedia writing must be unbiased, and I used language from the news article and included the citation. Please let me know if you think it is okay, or if any edits are needed. Thanks! --Jonasstaff (talk) 22:16, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hey I dream of horses,

I'm still confused as to how you add logos to pages. I made the page Premier Rugby Sevens (still in draft) and I can't add a logo. CalLightman1990 (talk) 18:55, 17 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@CalLightman1990 You add them under fair use after the draft is accepted. Images and logos are slightly important, but sourcing is the most important thing of all. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 18:56, 17 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Derecho draft

[edit]

There was agreement on the draft that the tornadoes were related and should be included by 2 editors. As such Robert is wrong. 199.76.113.24 (talk) 19:28, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please log in. Thank you I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 19:31, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As it is, going forward, I am interested to know what should be done, in general, if editors disagree with a reviewer's rationale for rejecting an AfC submission. TornadoLGS (talk) 20:54, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@TornadoLGS You don't resubmit while doing nothing to improve it. I've been known to yank the ability to resubmit for that; after all, if you aren't going to follow the instructions given, it's a waste of time and borders on manipulating the system to resubmit. Also, the two editors seem to be disagreeing based on the fact that other articles exist in a similar state, which is not a legit argument to accept the draft. It's, instead, an argument to concentrate on improving the articles that exist instead of creating a new one. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 21:00, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If someone who knows more says it’s ok, then someone who has no idea what they’re doing should get involved. Especially if there is consensus it’s ok, which was established by 2 editors at the talk page. 199.76.113.24 (talk) 21:17, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Consensus requires more than two editors. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 21:20, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I am not the one who submitted (nor resubmitted) the draft, though I have contributed to it. While I mentioned a similar article, (albeit on Robert McClenon's talk page and not the draft talk) WP:OTHERSTUFF is not my main reason for disagreeing. My reasoning was that the tornadoes were not a separate event and that the initial reason for declining the draft was incorrect, possibly because the Robert McClenon was unfamiliar with the subject matter, regardless of what other articles exist. I reached out to him on this matter after the first time the draft was declined, but received no response. TornadoLGS (talk) 21:49, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@TornadoLGS How unfortunate you didn't receive a response from @Robert McClenon. I've pinged him twice now in hopes he would know more context than I. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 21:51, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have stepped in at the draft to do exactly what Robert McClenon asked, which was split the tornado section out of the derecho article. I promise it will be merged back in the future (like probably within a week of being moved into mainspace), but apparently, it takes doing that to get it through AfC, so I’m fine with doing the super long way to get this through. Elijahandskip (talk) 22:16, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
User:TornadoLGS, User:Elijahandskip, User:I dream of horses - I tried to reply a few hours ago that I would take a look at it. I will take a look within a few hours. Robert McClenon (talk) 02:50, 19 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
User:TornadoLGS, User:Elijahandskip, User:I dream of horses - I've looked at it. I will explain later. Robert McClenon (talk) 06:32, 19 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The material that was about other tornadoes in 2022 has been deleted. That had been distracting, to me, and presumably would have also been distracting and confusing to a reader. I did not compare the detailed description of the tornadoes in the accepted article and in the declined draft, but I concluded that, at least in the current version, it is clear that the tornadoes were associated with the same storm front as the derecho was blowing along. Question from IBalancedAll (02:21, 20 June 2022)

[edit]

Hi there. Thanks for your previous help. I have now submitted the draft and all seemed to go well. I added tags Biography Photography Museums Books and these now come up in my Talk page. But the Name of the Article, which I named Jonathan Green, after the article's subject, when typed into the "name of the article" box next to Move To Draft gives a variety of Warnings in the Draft Space which I do not understand. I tried changing the Name of the Article to make it more unique to Name and DOB "Jonathan Green (September 26, 1939)" and also tried "Jonathan Green Photography," where I believe it now stands, but the Warning were still there, and sound ominous: "This can be a drastic and unexpected change for a popular page; please be sure you understand the consequences of this before proceeding. Please read Wikipedia:Moving a page for more detailed instructions."

I read this, but it is not clear what I risk by doing this. I just want the article to be reviewed as it exists and hopefully to be accepted.

Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks and Happy Horses! --IBalancedAll (talk) 02:21, 20 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@IBalancedAll A good name would be Jonathan Green (photographer). It would help people who fix ambiguous links, but doesn't sound like a business name. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 04:54, 20 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Question from IBalancedAll (07:01, 20 June 2022)

[edit]

Totally confused now: When I go back to my User page it now shows a Redirect page to User: Johnathon Green (photographer)

The first name is totally wrong. It is actually spelled "Jonathan." Two a's no h. And the category should not be (photographer) but rather (photography). This is an article about a person who was an academic in the field of photography and ran a Photography Museum.

If I click on Johnathon Green (photographer) it takes me to Draft:Johnathon Green (photographer), with the submitted material no longer in the Sandbox.

If I go to User page and click on Sandbox I am taken back to User:Johnathon Green (photographer)

The Please be Patient page indicates that I can continue to improve this submission by editing normally. But the entire article is missing from the Sandbox.

BUT it IS there in Edit source, in both source and preview, YEAH! So I guess I can work on it here if I want. Though I must say I am afraid to save it (Publish it) as who knows what new name it may be given and where I'll find it...

The first line of the article is: Jonathan Green (September 26, 1939) is an American writer, historian of photography, curator, teacher, museum administrator, photographer, filmmaker and the Founding Project Director of the Wexner Center for the Arts.[1] https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wexner_Center_for_the_Arts \o Wexner Center for the Arts https://wiki.riteme.site/w

Here the HYPERLINK has another somewhat closer version of the name, "Jonathon Green" but it still uses "photographer", but I guess/hope these names are just a holding designation while the article undergoes review.

Should I be worried about anything besides world politics, and just assume these name mix-ups are par for the course and will get corrected in time? Should I now assume that the Edit Source will function as my Sandbox? If I make any further changes should I click PUBLISH without worrying that everything might disappear?

Sorry for my alarm. Looking forward to you reply. --IBalancedAll (talk) 07:01, 20 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@IBalancedAll The Draft: prefix just means it's a draft page instead of an article. This is fine. When you're done, you'll put {{subst:submit}} at the top and somebody will, eventually, review the draft and maybe move it to make it an article.
I'm not sure why it says (photographer) instead of (photography), or what the deal is with the sandbox vs. userspace. I'm guessing someone moved your sandbox to draftspace at some point. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 07:07, 20 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@IBalancedAll After looking at the history of the draft, it looks like @Dan arndt moved the sandbox for you. He mistakenly moved it to userspace before moving it to draftspace. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 07:11, 20 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Question from IBalancedAll (18:43, 20 June 2022)

[edit]

Well this is confusing to say the least. Yesterday I could still get the text at my Talk, Edit Source. Now I just get a recipe for Chocolate Chip Cookies! What is your suggestion how to be able to get the text back. And what happens to the review process now that @Dan arndt has moved the sandbox? Where is this new userspace and how do I get there? Since as you say he "mistakenly moved it to userspace", how do we correct this mistake and get the review back on track and allow me access to the text? (As you can see, I got through the markup language okay, but these procedures are beyond my knowledge.) Thanks for your help. --IBalancedAll (talk) 18:43, 20 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@IBalancedAll The draft is at Draft:Jonathon Green (photographer), and you've already submitted it. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 22:38, 20 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

ARA problem?

[edit]

I'm not sure exactly how ARA works, but in this edit whatever corrections you were trying to make had the effect of duplicating the entire content of the article multiple times. I've seen this sort of thing before, though usually involving only one duplication of the content; and I've never been able to figure out why it happens. In any event, you may want to pay attention to the "bytes added" portion of your edits in page's histories so that you can notice when something wonky has occurred. Hello, I dream of horses. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Noel Francis Newsome".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been deleted. [edit]

Hello mentor. Question, about photos. Under which license should I post my own photos? Thx! --Bronzecorvett (talk) 20:15, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Bronzecorvett If you took the photograph, you can donate them to Wikimedia Commons under a CC-BY-SA 3.0 license. If someone else took the photograph, you'll need to get them, or in the case of death, mental incapacitation, or being under the age of majority (that is, they're a minor), whomever is authorized to legally authorize these sorts of things on their behalf, to donate to Wikimedia Commons under the same license. Only the photographer or a legally authorized agent (their guardian, etc.) can do this, regardless of who or what is being photographed, or who is in possession of the pictures.
