Abbycarroll, social media sites like pinterest and instagram aren't considered reliable sources. You should probably replace those sources.  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 19:54, 4 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, this is a fair use image. Wikimedia Commons doesn't accept such files (see commons:COM:Fair use), and the English Wikipedia doesn't allow their use for biographies. See below ~ ToBeFree (talk) 20:26, 4 July 2019 (UTC) strikethrough per Huon's correction ~ ToBeFree (talk) 20:40, 4 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict) The image is hosted on the Arabic Wikipedia, but not on the Wikimedia Commons. According to the Arabic text it's not freely licensed; they claim fair use because the subject is dead and no freely licensed image of him is known. Thus it cannot be uploaded to the Commons which takes only freely licensed images. It will need to be uploaded to the English Wikipedia with an appropriate fair use rationale. (In response to ToBeFree: Yes, we do accept fair use for biographies of dead people, but not for living people where a free equivalent could conceivably be produced.) Huon (talk) 20:30, 4 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I didn't take the dead/living distinction into account and have corrected this above. Thanks. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 20:40, 4 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Conclusion: Someone needs to uploaded the foto to the English Wikipedia with an appropriate fair use rationale, right? {{help me}} --93.211.217.251 (talk) 21:39, 4 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Huon and ToBeFree: I think that was directed at you.  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 21:42, 4 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the ping 🙂
This appears to be correct. I have added a request at Wikipedia:Files_for_upload#Continuum_Commerce_Solutions_logo.png; future similar requests can be made at Wikipedia:Files_for_upload/Wizard. "The image is non-free and I'm not autoconfirmed", "The image I want uploaded doesn't exist on Wikipedia", "The image is suitable for Wikipedia for another reason".
Now you'll only need to until someone has answered the request. I assume that they will also include the image in the article on your behalf, because actual usage in an article is required to keep the image on the English Wikipedia. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 21:57, 4 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi I just wanted to apologies if you saw my edits to the Azure Dev tool pages as disruptive. I just wanted to clarify the details as they were wrong I hope my latest edit reflect the accuracy required of wikipedia as reference source and encyclopedia. I have validated all the statements and changes and added appropriate references to support the changes. I have also ensured that the changes do not reflect soapboxing etc.

LeeStott (talk) 18:59, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

LeeStott, it's fine. Editing Wikipedia can be somewhat of a learning curve for some folks.  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 19:01, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

USD (United School District)

[edit]

I noticed your edit note on Oskaloosa, Kansas about use of {{not a typo|USD 341}}, but you should be aware there are hundreds or thousands of uses of USD in Kansas community and school articles. • SbmeirowTalk04:30, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sbmeirow, right, it might take a while to put {{not a typo}} on all of them, but at least now you know about it.  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 00:51, 7 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, brand new user to wiki here. I was hoping to add a link to Chief Censor David Shanks' LinkedIn page but I guess that's inappropriate? I started trying to create a page for him on wiki but found it quite hard... MaggieTait (talk) 21:27, 7 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

MaggieTait, typically external links aren't put in the article body, but in a separate "external links" section. Also, links to linkedin profiles tend to be reserved for people who have their own articles. Good luck in trying to learn everything. It can be difficult.  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 21:38, 7 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, idreamofhorses, I appreciate the info and (as a recently retired academic editor at the University of Arizona) I appreciate the structure and rigor that Wikipedia has set up for its entries. It's taken a bit of time to gain a preliminary understanding of how to create an entry, but I have found the documentation helpful. I've been making a few minor copyedits to the version of "Amy Weintraub" that I posted yesterday and likely will do so in coming days (which I assume if okay). In the future, there are additional individuals for whom I would like to help create Wikipedia pages and am eager to learn how to become more proficient in this process, and how to elicit the relevant information from these persons that is objective, verifiable, and accessible. Thanks, Robert — Preceding unsigned comment added by RobertMerideth (talkcontribs) 02:42, 8 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

RobertMerideth, it's nice to have an academic recognize the value of Wikipedia. Happy editing!  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 02:44, 8 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Stub tags

[edit]

When removing stub tags, don't forget to update the article's rating on the talk page as well, per WP:DESTUB. – Finnusertop (talkcontribs) 10:53, 7 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Finnusertop, I'm sure I'll find a way to keep track of the stub templates I remove via AWB.  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 13:22, 7 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That's a good point! – Finnusertop (talkcontribs) 10:22, 8 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Finnusertop, no worries, I found a way. It's a bit inefficient, but it's a solution nonetheless. I basically do it after the AWB run.  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 13:56, 8 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Stale

[edit]

Hello, I notice you removed my report at WP:AIV as stale. Could you clarify for me what constitutes stale on this noticeboard, please? Thank you, --SVTCobra 18:45, 14 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

SVTCobra, I remove reports after they're on the board for about an hour. Most of the time, admins are skipping the report at that point (perhaps unintentionally, huggle will block accounts automatically if an admin is using it); the rest of the time, there's no one around to block vandals and it's unpredictable when someone will come along to do it.  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 02:43, 15 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, the problem was, this wasn't an active vandal, it was a dedicated RefSpammer. It's the type of stuff which usually gets an indefinite block. Is it better to report such cases elsewhere? --SVTCobra 02:53, 15 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
SVTCobra, if it's more of a case of sockpuppetry, it should be reported to WP:SPI. If it's a one-time event (they spam a bit then get bored), well, the problem solved itself.  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 03:00, 15 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Turns out all is OK. Somehow, hours afterwards the spammer was blocked. See: Special:Contributions/BingNox. Sorry to have bothered you. Cheers, --SVTCobra 03:19, 15 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
SVTCobra, you didn't bother me at all, actually.  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 03:30, 15 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for editing my wiki page! I have no idea who set it up. I also dont know if u find this, i never wrote a Message here. I wish u a great week, cheers, thorsten — Preceding unsigned comment added by TonyZ77 (talkcontribs) 02:08, 16 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page watcher) @TonyZ77: Hallo Thorsten, This is a bit strange as the article Thorsten Nesch was created by you on 256 Dec 2015. You should not have created an article about yourself - please see WP:AUTOBIO. PamD 06:31, 16 July 2019 (UTC) Corrected 07:29, 16 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

PamD, just to be explicit about this as to be fair to TonyZ77 , I'm sure he didn't realize that creating an autobiographical article was discouraged. Many inexperienced editors don't, hence the existence of WP:AUTOBIO.
Also, I'm not entirely sure he's Thorsten Nesch.  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 07:15, 16 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, although he signs as "Thorsten" he could just be someone who takes an interest in other people with the same forename (I tend to stub-sort articles starting with "P"). But there's something odd about the fact that he started the article and then has no idea who set it up! Ah well. PamD 07:27, 16 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@PamD: Ah, I see my eyes skipped over the non-wikified signature in the process of reading quickly. Insert sheepish look here.
But you're right, this is a bit odd.  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 17:28, 16 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for helping improve my new article. There is now a link to it from Carnegie Corporation of New York (the philanthropic organization that funded the implementation of her new creation of "Continuing Education for Women.") More links are coming. At what point are there sufficient links that an article isn't an orphan any more, so that template can be removed? A message from Leftdefense

[edit]

The article on Identity Politics as it existed prior to my additions to it was woefully inadequate as regards criticism of IP and mention of the damage it does to our body politic.

My edit changing the word "share" to "claim" was in fact an attempt at neutrality, as Identity Politics does not depend on actual membership in a group, but self-identification.

Anyway, I understand the revulsion a certain predominant left-of-center political tribe may feel to criticisms of this politically correct notion, but any neutral presentation of the issue would make more than passing mention of relevant criticisms, and the overwhelmingly academic nature of the original entry begged for a fair rewrite. A whole heading on "Intersectional Critiques"? Academic, much?

Leftdefense (talk) 17:53, 30 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Leftdefense, I still think the tonality of your edits were less than encyclopedic and stand by my reversion.  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 20:05, 30 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
