[edit]Hello IDoH, if I may abbreviate! Just a quick note, you recently cleared the copyright alert from MDS (martin dawes systems) saying the source was another wiki. This is true, however the wiki in question (http://wikisperience.com/wiki/index.php?title=MDS) is published under GFDL only. So per WP:COMPLIC, that text is not under a compatible license for use here. Just an FYI for future ref! CrowCaw 22:24, 1 May 2015 (UTC)

[edit]Hi,
I have made to additions to Rabina Khan's page. I have referenced them to links from the media. How can I ensure that these edits remain on the page and are not deleted?
Many thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Onetowerhamlets (talk • contribs) 21:47, 1 May 2015 (UTC)
- @Onetowerhamlets: It probably would've been better off if you simply added to the page instead of deleting some of the more positive things (awards and honours, etc.) --I dream of horses (T) @ 21:52, 1 May 2015 (UTC)
- WP:BLPSPS states; "Never use self-published sources – including but not limited to books, zines, websites, blogs, and tweets – as sources of material about a living person, unless written or published by the subject (see below). "Self-published blogs" in this context refers to personal and group blogs. Some news organizations host online columns that they call blogs, and these may be acceptable as sources so long as the writers are professionals and the blog is subject to the newspaper's full editorial control. Posts left by readers are never acceptable as sources.".
- The sources added all fail WP:RS: Both these sources about expenses here and here fail WP:V and should be removed. In this source, there is no mention of the claim that the subject's husband is a member of the extremist group the Islamic Forum of Europe therefore should also be removed as per WP:SYNTH. [edit]Just wanted to run something past you, you said the page uses unreliable sources. One source is a High Court judgment and therefore very reliable. It is linked from the Ted Jeory Blog. An Evening Standard respected journalist.

Adding a picture of Paul Y. Anderson to the article
[edit]I wrote the original article about my grandfather. It has been added to and improved by several other writers. What I was attempting to do in my edit was to add a picture of Paul Anderson as he appeared as a young reporter for the St. Louis Post Dispatch. I am not the most computer literate person so if you could inform me as to how to correctly add the picture with the caption "Paul Anderson as a young reporter for the Post Dispatch" I would greatly appreciate it. If you have the authority to make the change yourself, that would be fine also.
Sincerely,
John Anderson
email: johnel83@sbcglobal.net — Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnel83 (talk • contribs) 05:30, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
- @Johnel83: He was alive long ago enough that it's quite likely that photographs of him working might be in the public domain.
- Wikimedia commons, a sister project of Wikipedia, only accepts no- or partial-copyright photos--anyone in the world has to be able to modify, distribute, and sell it legally. You can upload files to Wikimedia Commons here.
- Wikipedia itself can accept fully copyrighted photographs if there's absolutely no other option. You can upload photos to Wikipedia here. I dream of horses (T) @ 05:45, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
- I almost got to the final step of uploading the picture and then I was stopped.. I really do not know when the picture was created because my dad (Ken Anderson) passed it down to me around 1995 along with the Pulitzer Prize. I am sure that there are no copyright problems as the picture has been my personal property for about 20 years and is a simple portrait. If you have the authority to add the picture to the article with the caption Paul Y. Anderson as a young reporter for the St. Louis Post Dispatch, I would appreciate your doing so.

- It is a simple portrait of a family member that has been passed down to me & I would like to post it as part of the article. There are other pictures of my grandfather on the internet, just not this one. It would seem to me that if their are many pictures of him posted on the internet that there should not be a problem in posting this picture. I must be missing something. Do you have the authority to post the picture as part of the article or is there something else that I must do in order to add the picture to the article.
- Sincerely,
- John Anderson — Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnel83 (talk • contribs) 07:03, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

Spelling non-correction
[edit]I'm afraid that you inadvertently introduced error to National Register of Historic Places listings in Nebraska, with this edit, in which you attempted to correct the spelling of the Pavillion Hotel. In fact, the double-L is correct in this case. Apparently, hoteliers in Nebraska in the 1880s were a bit casual about their spelling; for good or ill, that's the way it's painted on the hotel (see photo), and that's the way that it's listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
You're doing valuable work for Wikipedia by correcting the far-too-abundant misspellings in the encyclopedia. However, some caution is indicated when a misspelling appears in a proper noun. Analogously, I spend a certain amount of time hunting down and fixing occurrences of "free reign" in the encyclopedia, and I have to be careful to avoid "correcting" it when, for instance, it's the name of a band whose founders, hopefully, were better musicians than English prose stylists.

[edit]I cannot stand the use of "prior to" in place of "before." It's wordy and pointless, and I've made it something of a bizarre crusade to rid the world of this wordy, pretentious phrase that primarily comes from government legalese and has crept into journalism and now the speech and writing of everyday Americans. I realize this is an extremely weird mission, but is there a faster way of getting rid of the 215,000-plus (at least) instances of "prior to" other than to do so manually? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.216.203.214 (talk) 03:15, 9 May 2015 (UTC)
- You could create an account, continue to do it manually, and eventually get enough to be able to use AWB, which I think can be programmed to replace one word/phrase with another. --I dream of horses (T) @ 03:34, 9 May 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you. Another cringe-inducing phrase that I'd love to rid the world of is "in close proximity to" in place of "near." I will get myself an account. As Wikipedia is increasingly the top link on Google for so many search topics, I feel this is the place to carry on my crusades! Wish me luck, and thanks for your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.216.203.214 (talk) 03:40, 9 May 2015 (UTC)

In any case, I thought to ask, you edited under previous user names.. is that actually allowed? I thought multiple accounts were frowned on.

You've sent me several messages while I've been correcting typos.
[edit]Thank you for your invitation to become a registered contributor to Wikipedia. I don't wish to join WP formally because there's a lot about it which is not admirable, especially some of the people.
I've dabbled in WP for over 2 years, and done a few thousand very minor edits.
WP seems an echo of real life. People who get into positions of authority are not those who are competent or have good judgment, but those who are energetic, ambitious and power-hungry.
1) There are a noticeable number of editors I would describe as WikiFascists or WikiFundamentalists. People who find some rule, and interpret it stringently, and sometimes wrongly, to delete other peoples' stuff. The page Wikipedia:Avoiding_common_mistakes says "Wikipedia does not employ hard-and-fast rules".
2) Be Bold - Gives a "Go Ahead" message to any twirp to instantly delete stuff that took me half an hour to type in.
3) Silly Nicknames. Weird fonts, multi-colours, animations, etc. Huge lists of Barnstars. Conan the Barbarian, Ghengis Khan, Adolf Hitler, etc.
4) Notability. I've made a few dozen additions to List_of_former_BBC_newsreaders_and_journalists. Some schoolkid from Texas - User:Corkythehornetfan - has taken it upon himself to immediately delete any entries which he considers "not notable" (ie. Don't already have their own WP page); Although Notability#Stand-alone_lists states "The entirety of the list does not need to be documented in sources for notability".
5) Another list in International_Textbook_Company. Someone has typed in a long table of published books, I've spent time correcting the spelling, but User:207.93.13.145 has deleted all 45000 chars of it, twice.
6) County Names in Britain. Some of these existed before 1066, most were created before 1300. Some of them were abolished as administrative areas in 1974. And a few people are now purging these "no-longer-valid" names from WP.
7) Technical information on eg. Computers. Some people think this doesn't belong in WP. To me, it's the most useful thing here.
8) Orphan pages. My attempts to link to these from other pages are sometimes rejected.
9) Red links. Some people don't like these, and will systematically delete them.
10) LGBT. I had no idea what this meant. I found a list of Category:LGBT_politicians_from_England, read about Marina Baker's career as politician and pinup in Playboy magazine, but didn't see any evidence that she was L,G,B, or T. The page on Bradley Manning is weird. The LGBT faction seems very prominent in WP.
11) Politics. Despite the directives to assume good faith and resolve differences by consensus, some users are very confrontational and bullying. There is a User:Linas who seems to have contributed a lot of clever stuff on Mathematics, but has been banned.

- @Lambrini Papangelis: Wikimedia Commons, a sister project that supplies much of Wikipedias' pictures, will only accept photos (or other media) that anyone can distribute, sell, or modify. Under limited circumstances, the English Wikipedia will accept fully copyrighted files, but don't count on those circumstances coming into play. --I dream of horses (T) @ 03:05, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

Hello "I dream of horses",
thank You for Your message about destroying the publication list.
I'm really not sure what to do.
I'm collecting this books for some years (That is a difficult and expensive job from Germany!). One reason is to improve my English. ;o)
You can't find a List of this books anywhere in the web. At the moment, I own about 450 different Volumes. Some times ago I began to describe it in Wikipedia, because I thought, that's the right place to do that. So far only 1/3 of the job is done.
My time is very rare, and I have no desire to argue with people who have seemingly all day time for that.
I do not know if 207.93.13.145 is well educated or very validity addicted. Every some minutes, he edits entries in the most diverse fields of knowledge, sometimes with trivial justifications.
Wikipedia is not that important to me, but it is a pity that a smart aleck knowledge destroyed forever.

Bare-Faced Ibis Help!
[edit]Hello, I am new to editing wikipedia articles and you messaged me because you felt something is wrong with the page I was editing (Bare-faced Ibis). I am in a biology class and this is my final to create a page about the ibis and I do not know how to add my references, I have tried the sandbox and have just got even more confused and I am stressed because I am new to this along with other finals I have to take. Any help would be really appreciated!

P&R Publishing
[edit]I Dream of Horses,
Greetings. I am trying to upload an image of the company P&R Publishing to the wiki page I have created under that name.
I have tried using the https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:File_Upload_Wizard&?withJS=MediaWiki:FileUploadWizard.js page. I have filled in all the fields, but the Upload button remains grayed out.
What should I do?
Thank you for your help.
Sorry for posting this twice. I omitted the header on the first posting.
I figured it out. I no longer need help on this.

P&R Publishing -- Need Help with File
[edit]I Dream of Horses,
I am new to Wikipedia in terms of adding articles.
A few minutes ago, I saw this message: https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=User_talk:JJH1947&oldid=prev&diff=662075430 -- Thank you for uploading File:Prp logo.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.
This file belongs to the company on whose behalf I have created the Wikipedia page P&R Publishing.
Where do I go on Wikipedia, and what fields do I need to fill in, so that this file is compliant with Wikipedia's policies. When I uploaded the file, I filled in all the fields.
I look forward to your help.
Thanks.
JJH1947 (talk) 06:05, 13 May 2015 (UTC)
- @JJH1947: Firstly, if editing Wikipedia is part of your job, then you'll need to say so on your userpage.
- Secondly, for the most part, we only allow copyright licenses that allow people to modify, distribute, and sell the image. This is because Wikipedia is part of the free culture movement. The good news is, we allow a fair use exception for logos since it's quite unlikely that anyone will license a logo so generously, yet we need logos to help identify whatever the logo represents. If you fill out {{Non-free use rationale}}, you might be able to "save" the image, even if you have to upload a lower quality version of it. --I dream of horses (T) @ 06:14, 13 May 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for your note. I believe I have fixed the situation regarding the copyright for the logo file prp_logo.png. Please see what I have done here -- https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User_talk:JJH1947 -- and let me know if it is OK.

- @Twoandtwoalwaysmakesafive: Rollback is given to trusted (as in not-new) users who show an interest in reverting vandalism, and also to all adminstrators. It might be a while before you get it, being that your account is only a day old. --I dream of horses (T) @ 00:51, 14 May 2015 (UTC)

[edit]the reason i added the info is because the current one is quite old and some new additions need to be made. Plus Bank of valletta has branched out and offered some fresh set of operations that is in addition to ATMs and subsidary only.

[edit]Dear "I dream of horses, I would like to thank you for your help and support.
I've been contributing Wikipedia pages over the years, but having my own personal page is new for me. Currently I'm mainly tying some of various Wikipedia pages I'm mentioned on to my page. And while I'm at this, I'm also adding some details I find missing, and occasionally correcting errors I come across. Eventually, I hope my page can offer more substance and would welcome any advice. Gary & Dino page
[edit]Hello ma'am, I am here to defend the Gary & Dino page I created. Yes it is a podcast but it's a very important podcast. The show started in 2010 and was the first project of The New Normal Network, a company created by Tom Leykis. Leykis credits the show with being one of the reason his talk show has been able to do so well, as it kept the company relevant in his listeners' minds while he was unable to do his show for a three year period. I do not understand why Gary & Dino is unable to have a page when Tom Leykis AND his own show have one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by OGKiwiPie16 (talk • contribs) 07:17, May 25, 2015
- @OGKiwiPie16: If you have to compare the article you created to other people/subjects that have articles, it's a bad sign, since whatever you were writing about can't stand up on its' own. Other articles exist. --I dream of horses (T) @ 13:47, 25 May 2015 (UTC)
- I admit I published it sooner than I would like but I wanted other listeners, who are better writers, to be able to edit it because none of us have created a wiki page before and find it a little confusing. And there are not any official references I can list because there haven't been articles written about the show. Only references are audio podcasts/clips from that show as well as others. And I would just add Gary & Dino to other pages as a simple sentence (like how Frankie MacDonald appears weekly) but it gets removed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by OGKiwiPie16 (talk • contribs) 11:49, May 26, 2015
- @OGKiwiPie16: Then you need to use articles for creation through the article wizard or a sandbox draft. I dream of horses (T) @ 11:53, 26 May 2015 (UTC)

Tagging of Starfish and Coffee (song)
[edit]I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on Starfish and Coffee (song). I do not think that Starfish and Coffee (song) fits any of the speedy deletion criteria because The article had content (albeit not much content) even thoguh it was all in the info box. That still counts as content for purposes of WP:CSD#A3..
