A tag has been placed on User:ISKCON Press, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Contested deletion

[edit]

This page is not unambiguously promotional, because... It was just started, and will be edited over time. It has an external link, but one that is relevant for authenticity of citations used throughout Wikipedia. If having a link on one's user page is problematic, we'll remove it. --ISKCON Press (talk) 03:16, 11 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing, because this account has been used only for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to Wikipedia's content policy. Also, your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group, which is against Wikipedia's policy: an account is for an individual, not a group. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a free advertising service.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of this page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. SuperMarioMan ( Talk ) 14:14, 11 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

I was unaware of the policy in regards to usernames. What I was thus "promoting" was a non-profit organisation. Now that I understand this policy, I declare that I am acting not on behalf of the organisation, but on the behalf of myself as a private entity. The reason I created this account was to fix broken links that leads to the now defunct vedabase.net website. I'm not doing this work to advertise or mislead, but for proper working reference of the same material. Another reason I created my user account was to contribute to articles related to religion, more specifically Vaishnavism, of which I'm a student and practitioner of the last ten years. I understand and agree with the NPoV that Wikipedia presents, and I will not go against that in my edits.

Decline reason:

I'm happy that you understand the problem, that your only promotion was your relatively benign user page, and that you were fixing existing links rather than spamming them. But your chosen name is too similar to an existing user account at User:Wikidas. Please make a new unblock request with a different name. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 09:29, 12 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I meant no offence by selecting a similar username, 'das' is quite common among Vaishnavas. Not so easy to get started on Wikipedia, it seems... :)

Accept reason:

OK, that's all done - renamed and unblocked. Welcome to Wikipedia! Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 10:20, 12 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
