Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Peter Firth, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Trouble in Paradise, The Incident and The Magicians (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Historic buildings

[edit]

Listing on the National Register of Historic Places is generally held to be a credible assertion of notability, so please don't tag any more of these as A7. Thanks. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 04:20, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Question for Admin

[edit]

I was just wondering if there is a process to temporarily gain the ability to merge histories of two articles? I want to help reduce the backlog at Wikipedia:WikiProject History Merge, as I doubt any administrator would have the time. Is this something that can be done, or do you have to receive full sysop privileges? If it can be done, how do I go about applying for the privilege? Thanks, iComputerSaysNo 00:28, 7 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, the history merge process requires the ability to delete and undelete pages (and revisions), which is currently only available as part of the full admin toolset. The only way you'd be able to help is by going through RFA. Darkwind (talk) 02:18, 7 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

[edit]

After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback can be used to revert vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback may be removed at any time.

If you do not want rollback, then contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some information on how to use rollback, you can view this page. I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, just leave me a message on my talk page if you have any questions. Happy editing! Malinaccier (talk) 16:28, 24 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, were you planning on revisiting the review at some point? It would be great to see that list reach FL standard. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help. Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 15:41, 5 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi HJ. I have taken some time off recently as my work and studies have been very hectic. I shall continue now - but the biggest difficulty is referencing every person. Also, have you had a look at the discussions going on on the talk page? Thanks, iComputerSaysNo 14:42, 6 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
G'day, I'm one of the Milhist co-ordinators and am trying to determine the status of this A-class review. As it has been open for nearly two months, I am considering closing it as unsuccessful at this time. I don't want to do this, though, if you feel you are close to rectifying the reviewers' concerns. Are you in a position to return to the review and provide an update of how you are going? Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 04:24, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Rupert. Due to uni and work, I won't be able to finish the concerns until after 20th June. I would suggest closing it and I will work on it afterwards. At that point I will put it forward for FL anyway. Thanks, iComputerSaysNo 18:25, 3 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
G'day, no worries, I've closed the review. Good luck with uni and taking the list further. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 19:42, 3 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

SPC ranks

[edit]

I notice you have an interest producing images for Special Constable ranks in the United Kingdom. I have produced many, many, with the original images courtesy of 'Timothy Titus'.

Was there somewhere you were planning to put them? Because I have tried to get them on many pages and the often get deleted for being 'too large'.

But take a look! :

Hello IComputerSaysNo. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to you in particular.

The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.

If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied from the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the Wayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.)

If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using {{db-g12|url=URL of source}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with {{subst:copyvio|url=URL of source}}.

Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.

I hope this message finds you well and thanks again you for your efforts in this area. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:20, 18 November 2014 (UTC).[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Scott Wightman, official FCO photograph, February 2015.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Scott Wightman, official FCO photograph, February 2015.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Finnusertop (talkcontribs) 21:16, 10 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
