Congressional Election Results

Hi! I just want to ask where does the results for the 2010, 2013 and 2016 congressional elections came from. Did they come from the COMELEC Transparency servers? Thanks! --Janbryan (talk) 19:09, 3 June 2018 (UTC)

2010 came from the official servers; 2013 and 2016 came from the Transparency server. Some individual regional articles for 2013 and 2016 may have official results on them. Howard the Duck (talk) 19:13, 3 June 2018 (UTC)

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:25, 8 July 2018 (UTC)

Independent minority

Hi! Suarez was declared as the minority leader despite of voting Arroyo to speakership. What's your opinion on putting Quimbo's and Alvarez's blocs into the independent minority? --Janbryan (talk) 16:56, 9 August 2018 (UTC)

I'll look into how the minority leader election went. If there are more than 2 candidates for minority leader, each candidate would lead his own bloc. I don't know how they'd the fourth bloc. Howard the Duck (talk) 09:19, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
Before Suarez as affirmed as the minority leader by the plenary, this was how the House was organized, as per Andaya in the Congressional Record of July 30, 2018:
"REP. ANDAYA. Yes, Mr. Speaker, just to clarify the matter for all the Members, at this point in time, the Majority bloc recognizes 260 Members as part of the Majority, 17 Members as part of the Minority, seven from the Independent bloc, seven from the Independent Makabayan bloc, and one Independent in the name of Rep. Tobias “Toby” M. Tiangco, totaling 292 Members."
Howard the Duck (talk) 22:09, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
It’s clearly hard to understand the rules when in fact, Suarez voted for the speaker. The 15 members who abstained or voted “No” came from the Quimbo’s bloc which grew to 24 members. Some of Alvarez’s bloc were present but didn’t vote and it has 13 members. Does this mean that Alvarez’s bloc can be considered “Independent” just like Toby Tiangco?--Janbryan (talk) 09:47, 11 August 2018 (UTC)
It's not our job to interpret the rules. A reading of the Congressional Record says that Congress has always recognized Suarez as the Minority Leader throughout this ordeal. Howard the Duck (talk) 10:59, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
I've got that. That's why I'm considering putting Quimbo's and Alvarez's blocs into the independent minority bloc. But then again, there was only one candidate and Quimbo's and Alvarez's blocs opposed each other. Should we consider having two different independent minority blocs?--Janbryan (talk) 19:03, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
I dunno if they have stats on who's who on which bloc already. Presumably it all remains the same unless Quimbo's and Alvarez's groups resigned from the majority and formed their own blocs. If they do, they'll forfeit their committee memberships as only the majority and minority blocs can be members in committees. Howard the Duck (talk) 19:06, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
I was able to get a list of members per bloc based on news articles.--Janbryan (talk) 19:46, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

UAAP 81 Templates

Hi Howard the Duck, regarding the colors for the Results table, is it possible we use the standard colors as in previous seasons? (i.e., Green for wins, Darker green for OT wins, Red for losses, Darker red for OT losses) Thanks! (talk) 11:10, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

No we can't use those anymore. It's us who has to adjust to everyone else. Howard the Duck (talk) 18:49, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
Alright. Should we at least align the Match-up results with the colors for the Results table? Thanks! (talk) 11:17, 5 September 2018 (UTC)
I'd recommend on ditching the matchup table. Other articles don't add that. The NCAA isn't using that for this season. Howard the Duck (talk) 18:53, 5 September 2018 (UTC)

Re:Unilateral and undiscussed moves

? --Bankster (talk) 07:53, 4 November 2018 (UTC)

Oooops sorry. You moved Philippine-related articles unilaterally and without discussion. Why? For example, you moved the Colegio de San Juan de Letran article to the one with diacritics. The logo of this school doesn't use the diacritic. All references do not use the name with the diacritic. Yet you moved it. Why? Howard the Duck (talk) 08:10, 4 November 2018 (UTC)
Ah, yes. The name of the school is written in Spanish; hence, the name "Letrán" uses the tilde to symbolise accentuation on the last syllable of the word (being pronounce «leh-TRAN» in English), which is applied according to Spanish orthographic rules. I thought it would be appropriate to add the corresponding tilde as the school was named by Spaniards during colonial rule. --Bankster (talk) 08:15, 4 November 2018 (UTC)
If there was Wikipedia in the 18th century, this would have been the "proper" spelling. In 21st century Philippines, it isn't. The school itself doesn't use it. None of the references in the article use it. Where is this in WP:NC? Please stop your moves without a proper discussion. Howard the Duck (talk) 08:17, 4 November 2018 (UTC)

Properly change the map "File:Prime ministers.svg" you created

Hello, Howard the Duck, the author of the map "File:Prime ministers.svg". In this map, countries with prime ministers are shown in blue; countries formerly had prime ministers are shown in dark red. Turkey formerly had prime ministers between 1920 and 2018, but Turkey replaced the prime minister by presidential system in 2018 (see Prime Minister of Turkey, List of Prime Ministers of Turkey, Turkish constitutional referendum, 2017, Turkish general election, 2018), so Turkey should be shown in dark red in this map. I sincerely hope you can accept my suggestions. Thanks a lot!

2009 Philippines language map

Ehy, Howard the Duck, I am interested to know if you had used any data coming from a census or a survey to make this map back in 2009 (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_of_the_Philippines#/media/File:Philippine_languages_per_region.png), thank you FrankCesco26 (talk) 21:29, 14 February 2019 (UTC)

New political party colours

Hi! I'm just wondering what happened to your proposed colors for Philippine political parties. I know that you had a disagreement with a fellow user regarding your changes. Is there any way to push through with these plans seeing that you already managed to revise electoral maps with the new colors? --Janbryan (talk) 02:32, 14 May 2019 (UTC)

Discussions fizzled at WP:PINOY (as expected), and I wanted to have consensus there first before changing anything. We already thought that there was consensus, but we all know what happened... Howard the Duck (talk) 03:11, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
It's hard to fully get a consensus when not a lot of people participate in the discussions. So are we just going to use the old colors for 2019 elections?--Janbryan (talk) 19:53, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
Depends on who's controlling the colors. Howard the Duck (talk) 00:50, 15 May 2019 (UTC)
I’m open to changing the colors again, particularly changing Nacionalista’s color from green to red.--Janbryan (talk) 23:33, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
There has to be consensus on the matter. You guys already know what I wanted to happen. Howard the Duck (talk) 00:00, 24 May 2019 (UTC)

COMELEC election results

Hi! I’m just curious how are you able to compile results for the 2019 congressional elections so fast. Do you do some sort of computer programming to be able to scrape the data from the COMELEC server? Thanks!--Janbryan (talk) 23:35, 23 May 2019 (UTC)

It's done by hand at the official COMELEC website, via the COC section. The Google Sheets formulas take care of the rest. It's quite easy actual as provincial-level districts are in one place, and cities are in another. Howard the Duck (talk) 23:59, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for the advice! I went on and scraped the data from the COMELEC through the use of Google Sheets. My data slightly differs from you and I shaded the variations red in my spreadsheet for you to see and compare https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1axKsNOvMce8zdcTB0n2LNyq8vxJsPqzD-6HO8g_Xvv4/ . I also didn't include the data from South Cotabato's 1st district as their elections were suspended due to the creation of Gen. Santos City's lone district.--Janbryan (talk) 04:00, 28 May 2019 (UTC)
I can't double check on my end as it's sorted through district so I can't reconcile the two. Howard the Duck (talk) 00:35, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
Do you mind if I take a look in your spreadsheet? Please and thank you.--Janbryan (talk) 01:18, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
[1] One discrepancy is Hugpong Surigao Sur, which either is its own party, or is a part of any of the Davao-based Hugpongs. The latter is unlikely since the HNP is only legally allowed to field candidates in the Davao Region, and HTL only in Davao City. Howard the Duck (talk) 02:18, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
I wasn’t able to see your spreadsheet as it’s currently locked. And, yeah, Hugpong Surigao Sur is unrelated to HNP and HTL.--Janbryan (talk) 03:34, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
Use this instead: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Ohu_Uv_GN5D7gAoBOgRXXFu7Ge39Pv5s7h_Bg3Wn3mQ/edit?usp=sharing
Hi! I took a quick look at your data and noticed that you only have two rows for Independents. How do you account for races where there are three Independent candidates who participated like in Quezon City-5th and Pangasinan-4th?--Janbryan (talk) 03:26, 31 May 2019 (UTC)
I added the second and worse performing independents at the IND-LOSER. Howard the Duck (talk) 03:32, 31 May 2019 (UTC)

Hi again! I examined your whole data and found the following discrepancies:

  1. In some instances, you didn't add up the second and the worse performing independents in Quezon City-5th, Zamboanga City-1st & 2nd, Antique, Laguna-2nd, Mt. Province, Pangasinan-4th and Sorsogon-2nd.
  2. In Taguig-2nd, you used the votes of Taguig-1st within Taguig.
  3. In Iloilo City, you put the votes of PDDS towards the Independent.
  4. In Batangas-6th, you put the votes of NPC towards the PDP-Laban.
  5. In Iloilo-4th, you forgot the votes of PDDS.
  6. In Negros Occidental-4th, you put the votes of PDP-Laban towards the NPC.

I copied your spreadsheet and highlighted these discrepancies red and italicized their votes. Here's the link: [2] --Janbryan (talk) 01:03, 1 June 2019 (UTC)

Can you comment this on the specific cells at the sheet I'll take a look at it. (AFAIK you can comment.) Howard the Duck (talk) 01:06, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
Hi! I added comments in your spreadsheet.--Janbryan (talk) 01:28, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
I've resolved all comments. Are the totals identical now? Howard the Duck (talk) 01:50, 1 June 2019 (UTC)

Colors: The people at the elections WikiProject are replacing the metadata with Wikidata which should make these available to all Wikimedia projects. There could be a discussion on what colors to use for the newer "templates" by then... you know instead of discussing barangays for the 100th time this decade that changes nothing. Howard the Duck (talk) 01:50, 1 June 2019 (UTC)

I checked the totals and they're identical except for the Independent total. You forgot to remove 1,238 votes from the Independent when you moved the value to PDDS in Iloilo City. Regarding to the metadata, I lack knowledge on their current discussions on the Elections Wikiproject. I'm guessing that they're planning to overhaul how elections results are listed in the table, is that so?--Janbryan (talk) 02:55, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
The vote totals should also change the seat winners; the Iloilo City count shouldn't affect that. Is it identical now? As for colors, they'd most likely just copy-paste the values in the metadata to the new Wikidata. They shouldn't edit values for the most part. Howard the Duck (talk) 02:57, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
Yeah, everything is identical now. I would be moving forward in updating the elections template. Thanks!--Janbryan (talk) 03:04, 1 June 2019 (UTC)

Correction

Hello, this is related to the closed debate on the page Arangkada San Joseño. Yes in this year's elections won her (Rida Robes) second term, but she was running under the PDP-Laban party. Incumbent councilor Irene del Rosario was the one that ran under the NUP party. The two is hostile enough to have Rida file a case for Irene, but then it was dismissed. - 👦🗣️ 16:32, 28 June 2019 (UTC)

Help finding a citation for a PBA player

Hello! I was told that you're an expert on finding PBA information, so I was hoping you could help me find a citation about a player. I am looking for a reliable source that mentions Josh Vanlandingham, his PBA career (or just having played professionally), and his hometown of Snohomish, Washington, for the latter's section on Notable people. So far, the results from Philstar only list his college and birthplace, which are in different cities. Cheers, SounderBruce 04:33, 23 September 2019 (UTC)

While citations on him playing professionally is easy (the article per se has a couple), finding citations of his birth place may be difficult; it's quite common for someone to be born in a place, and take up college in another. Howard the Duck (talk) 11:28, 12 October 2019 (UTC)

2019 US Banknote Contest

US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here

ArbCom 2019 election voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:06, 19 November 2019 (UTC)
