Suhrawardy

[edit]

Dear Hossain,

I removed the name on the grounds of keeping the list short. If we listed every person involved in the Indian independence movement and the Partition who also has a biography on Wikipedia, the list would be hundreds of names long. The point of listing the names of the MAJOR participants was to direct readers to relevant biographies. I'm not a specialist in the history of the Partition, just a well-read American. I went solely by my reactions, which are: if I, who am not a South Asian and not a specialist, recognize the name, it must be well-known. If I don't recognize the name, then the person may be important, but not important enough to make the short list.

If you want to argue that the name should be well-known, or that I've got a curious blind spot here, in that I can recognize Gandhi and Mountbatten but not Suhrawardy, you could bring it up on the talk page of the article. However, I rather despair of coming to any consensus on anything relating to that article, because we have several editors with strong political positions and, it seems to me, incomplete understanding of NPOV.

Is there a WP category for Indian independence movement? We should make sure that all the South Asian bios have the proper category appended, and then perhaps have a link in that section of the Partition article to the category, directing readers to more biographies.

I'm not trying to shut out your candidate, it's just that lists tend to grow like weeds unless there's someone saying, "NO, keep it short." Zora 00:54, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Akram Khan (in Suhrawardy article)

[edit]

Hi Hossain - thank you very much for pointing out that Akram Khan will get confused with the cricketer! I am afraid I have revealed my terrible lack of cricket knowledge. However, I am still not happy with the use of the title Maulana: Wikipedia's policy against honorifics and titles seems to me to be quite important. I have set up a separate page for Akram Khan (politician), and linked to that - I hope this will clear up any ambiguity. Thanks again and best wishes, TinaSparkle 10:14, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Request around reference

[edit]

I am watching with the delight the references you are providing, particularly to Dhaka Nawab Family articles. Wonderful job there. It could get even better, though, with very little extra effort. Can you, by any chance, have the time to put footnote citations and use a book citation template? If that can be added, we can expect the articles to radically develop in status. Aditya(talkcontribs) 19:56, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your sugesstions.Though time consuming, but I shall, ofcourse, try to follow your guidelines. Hossain Akhtar Chowdhury (talk) 18:09, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Great. If you need any help you can always ask me. Though satisfaction isn't that guaranteed, I'll try to do my best. What I can immediately think of is a collaboration to develop the Nawab Family related articles. Say what? Aditya(talkcontribs) 18:43, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Chitta Ranjan Dutta

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Chitta Ranjan Dutta requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Kkmurray (talk) 02:40, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reverts

[edit]

Please don't make reverts like this when you know there is a discussion going on. It is more appropriate to participate in the discussion and follow consensus. Right now, the consensus clearly is against including these images (four people have said they shouldn't be included), so unless consensus changes you should not revert like this; reverting while ignoring discussion is considered to be edit warring. Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Hossain Akhtar Chowdhury! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 42 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

  1. Shahnaz Rahmatullah - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Brahmanbaria District may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s and 1 "{}"s likely mistaking one for another. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:
  • B.Jame Mosque of Sarail(1662}

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Fakhruddin Mubarak Shah, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page The Daily Star (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 08:58, 30 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
