Regarding edits to List of horse breeds

[edit]

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia, Horsecanter! However, your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove spam from Wikipedia. If you were trying to insert a good link, please accept my creator's apologies, but note that the link you added, matching rule \bangelfire\.com\/, is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. Please read Wikipedia's external links policy for more information. If the link was to an image, please read Wikipedia's image tutorial on how to use a more appropriate method to insert the image into an article. If your link was intended to promote a site you own, are affiliated with, or will make money from inclusion in Wikipedia, please note that inserting spam into Wikipedia is against policy. WHOA!

[edit]

Your work is well-intentioned, but you are screwing up this page by creating DOZENS of red links, eliminating breeds on the list, putting pony breeds in with the horse breeds and generally making a mess! Please stop. Only add new breeds if there are NO articles on wikipedia by any name and if the "breed" is really a breed--that is, can you create an article about it? Please also do NOT change the names in linked articles because this creates a double redirect or a red link.

I don't think you mean to vandalise this page, but you are causing major problems. Please stop. List your additions on the discussion page and we will work to put them in with a more organized manner. Montanabw 21:32, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent contribution removed content from List of horse breeds. Please be more careful when editing articles and do not remove content from Wikipedia without a good reason, which should be specified in the edit summary. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. If you would like to experiment again, please use the sandbox. Thank you. Please do not post copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder, as you did to Belgian Warmblood. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites ({url} in this case) or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

 • If you have permission from the author leave a message explaining the details on the article Talk page and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
 • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:Belgian Warmblood with a link to where we can find that note;
 • If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on the article Talk page. Alternatively, you may create a note on your web page releasing the work under the GFDL and then leave a note at Talk:Belgian Warmblood with a link to the details.

For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Your original contributions are welcome.

Please stop this!

[edit]

I believe you are well-intentioned, but PLEASE STOP editing the list of horse breeds until you know what you are doing. You are adding "breeds" that are not breeds (The American Albino has been renamed, for example), you are dublicating links (Australian Brumby redirects to Brumby and we aren't supposed to create double redirects in Wikipedia) and you continue to add red links (some are misspellings and some have no article connected to them). At any rate, you are duplicating work that has already been done, you are working from inaccurate sources (there is no such thing as a separate breed or registry for "Egyptian Arabians" for example, that's a marketing thing), and you need to stop editing this list until you understand wikipedia better and are more careful. You have been given two formal warnings, but I wanted to explain why your work is causing problems before I request that the administrators block your account. You appear to be very enthusiastic, but you need to slow down and learn the system before you mess with this article again, please. Montanabw 02:19, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Much Better! Some hints

[edit]

You are starting to figure out the world of wikipedia and creating some useful material. Your work on the assorted Warmblood articles is especially useful, as many are still stubs. Thank you! A couple of suggestions and cautions, however:

 1. Please check more carefully to see if articles have already been created; I put merge tags on American Cream Draft and Australian Riding Pony because there are already articles on these breeds under slightly different names. Merging (see WP:Merge )and redirecting (Wikipedia:Redirect) is appropriate in situations like this, even if there are slight differences. (For example, the Welsh pony article once had separate small articles for each sub-type, they were merged into a single article)
 1. Remember to wikilink any new articles and add wikilinks to other articles where the topic might be mentioned (a search often reveals other articles.) Also remember to spell check. We all miss stuff, and others often will catch typos, but be as careful as possible.
 1. Please be very careful not to create articles about "breeds" that are really just a subtype of other breeds. Check the "Category" link at the bottom to see what's there, as well as doing a search with all lower-case letters.
 1. The best way to avoid the "breeds that aren't really breeds" problem is to cite the source of a group that actually has a separate registry (as opposed to merely a promotional organization) You are better off to expand an existing article. Please cite references or sources for your material, such as a breed registry or organization. Even then, if there is controversy, best to be careful. (A registry alone doesnt make a breed, however; there was a big edit war several months back over including "color" breeds on the breed page, and when consensus was reached, they were all tossed out in favor of the pages about each color.)
 1. Wikipedia capitalization conventions are to capitalize only the first letter of a title and leave other words in lower case. I don't particularly like this, but can live with it. However, the problem is that you may miss existing articles and create red links if you capitalize titles, such as List of horse breeds versus List Of Horse Breeds. It's an ongoing pain in the you-know-what, but oh well.

Hang in there. We are glad to see constructive edits! Montanabw 16:43, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Doing great, but one suggestion

[edit]

You are donig really well at locating and creating horse breed articles and adding them to the list. However, one small editing thing. List of horse breeds is just an article, any usually not of any use as a "see also" section. What IS useful is to add the CATEGORY "Horse breeds" to the bottom of articles that aren't categorized. The List of horse breeds article is the first item in the category. I use the list of horse breeds article as a piped wikilink whenever the word "breed" or "horse breed" appears within the text of the article. Montanabw 21:00, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As a reference, using categories is better wikipedia practice:

Examples of markup language for what I am talking about:

* *breed of horse *horse breed

Happy editing and thank you for your now-useful contributions! Montanabw 21:00, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not post copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder, as you did to Canadian Cutting Horse.

Otherwise, you are encouraged to rewrite this article in your own words to avoid any copyright infringement. Please remove all text you copied from other websites

[edit]

Including any articles you translated verbatim. Thank you. --Butseriouslyfolks 18:14, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

(Don't sweat this, you're getting the hang of wikipedia, but maybe check out the help pages a bit more...you can rewrite things in your own words, just avoid copy and paste. Write a new article WITHOUT looking at the source material (write what you have learned in your own words) and use references from the site, just don't use it verbatim...this can be fixed, just takes time. Better to create a stub and add to it later than a copyright violation...Good luck!) Montanabw 03:11, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Want a minor job that needs to be done?

[edit]

If you want to do a small cleanup job here on wikipedia, maybe check the Horse Stubs category and see if all the breed stubs (that are really breeds) are listed in List of horse breeds. Most of them appear to be, but may be a couple missing. Be careful, though, and be sure they really ARE breeds (Al Khamsa, for example, is NOT). Not a laugh a minute, but maybe helpful. I also caught some duplicate articles there and marked them for merging. (Actually merged Connemara ponies with Connemara Pony without asking, as the first was only one sentence long...!) Breed articles

[edit]

Hey Horsecanter and Yemenah, I am not really trying to make your lives miserable by various tags, I just am trying to encourage the creation of breed articles that are REAL articles. There are a lot of new "breeds" out there that are mostly someone's marketing ploy, and a lot of "breeds" that are types, not breeds (like Sport Horse). Anyway the point is that an article needs at least one good full citation and should follow at least a sketch of an outline as found in the Horse Breeds Wikiproject. Stubs are OK, sometimes with rare breeds, we can't find much, but try to say SOMETHING unique about the breed, like where it comes from, what its unique characteristics are, etc...don't just create a sentence to remove a red link. Something like a breed is a "medium-sized riding horse" is not an article. Tell us why we should care, at least a little. Thanks. Montanabw 21:26, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Concerning your contribution, Nigerian Pony, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material without the permission of the author. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.equinekingdom.com/breeds/ponies/nigerian.htm. As a copyright violation, Nigerian Pony appears to qualify for deletion under the speedy deletion criteria. Nigerian Pony has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message. For text material, please consider rewriting the content and citing the source, provided that it is credible.

If you believe that the article or image is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

 • If you have permission from the author, leave a message explaining the details at Talk:Nigerian Pony and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
 • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:Nigerian Pony with a link to where we can find that note.
 • If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on Talk:Nigerian Pony.

However, for text content, you may want to consider rewriting the content in your own words. Thank you, and please feel free to continue contributing to Wikipedia. ~Eliz81(C) 06:52, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Matter of Fact (horse) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. brewcrewer (yada, yada) 22:57, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Northlands Pony. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

We're not sure if this deals with the same horse breed as the Pottoka page. It certainly appears to be but I'd be grateful if you could clarify which breed you had in mind. Thanks! Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
