- Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
- It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
- If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
- Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
- When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
- If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
- Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.
Happy editing! Cheers, AntiDionysius (talk) 22:38, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
Introduction to contentious topics
[edit]You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practices;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.
Editors whose accounts are less than 30 days old and who have less than 500 edits are not permitted to make edits in this area. They are also not allowed to participate in talk page discussions about this topic area, except to make specific, direct edit requests (i.e. "please change x to y" or "please add z"). There are many other ways to participate in Wikipedia, however, and your help would be very much appreciated. AntiDionysius (talk) 22:40, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
- You have been warned above not to edit in the IP area until you have -at least- 500 edits. If you still continue to do so, expect to be reported and blocked, Huldra (talk) 22:30, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
Read the edit summary here. You are limited to making edit requests per WP:EDITXY. This is not an edit request. Anything that is not an edit request will be removed from the talk page. Sean.hoyland (talk) 08:57, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you.Sean.hoyland (talk) 11:38, 4 January 2025 (UTC)

[edit]I would like to kindly request an unblock. My intention was to contribute constructively to the discussion about the terminology in an article. I now understand that I may not have fully followed Wikipedia’s guidelines, and I apologize if my actions caused any disruption.
I am willing to learn from this experience and ensure that all my future contributions align with Wikipedia’s policies. I respectfully ask for a second chance to participate in good faith.
Thank you for your time and consideration Benjo (talk) 12:23, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
- I have unblocked you. Please do not make any more edits in the Palestine-Israel topic area (apart from edit requests on talk pages) until your account is extended-confirmed, or you will be blocked again. Thanks, Black Kite (talk) 12:39, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for unblocking me. I’ll do my best to stick to the restrictions and contribute responsibly. Benjo (talk) 13:05, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
