Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I just noticed a few of your recent edits and wanted to point you towards the Wikipedia style guide for links. It is generally preferred to replace the URL with descriptive text, particularly in the external links section of an article. These are a few of the pages that I've noticed that have been changed so the URL's description is no longer a part of the link:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! —Jnk[talk] 03:27, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Date formats

[edit]

I see you have been changing the format of dates on various pages. The two usual alternatives are [[14 May]] [[2006]] (British format) and [[May 14]], [[2006]] (American format). If you link those dates, Wikipedia will reformat them according to the individual user's preferences link this: 14 May 2006. The format you have used, [[14 May]], [[2006]] is non-standard (the comma is only needed for the US format because otherwise there would be two adjacent numbers). I wasn't sure what would happen to this, but it seems Wikipedia still reformats it as usual, so your edits will never be visible anyway!

Generally, dates in UK-related articles use British dates, American articles use US dates, although it's up to the individual editor's preference. It's never necessary to edit a page simply to change the format of the date from UK to US or vice versa, and some editors might be unhappy about it. If you enjoy this sort of house-keeping, please look out for dates written as e.g. 14th May – we never use ordinals in dates as they won't link or reformat correctly, so please change any of those you see to one of the standard formats. Regarding Frederick A. Kerry, you left this message on my Talk page [2], and then removed it [3]. I haven't been involved in the history of this article other than today, but it appears the page in question had previously been deleted via an AfD [4], and shouldn't be re-posted per WP:CSD#G4. --mtz206 23:09, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
