Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Women's association football, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page WUSA (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Administrators' newsletter – February 2020

News and updates for administrators from the past month (January 2020).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a request for comment, partial blocks are now enabled on the English Wikipedia. This functionality allows administrators to block users from editing specific pages or namespaces rather than the entire site. A draft policy is being workshopped at Wikipedia:Partial blocks.
  • The request for comment seeking the community's sentiment for a binding desysop procedure closed with wide-spread support for an alternative desysoping procedure based on community input. No proposed process received consensus.

Technical news

  • Twinkle now supports partial blocking. There is a small checkbox that toggles the "partial" status for both blocks and templating. There is currently one template: {{uw-pblock}}.
  • When trying to move a page, if the target title already exists then a warning message is shown. The warning message will now include a link to the target title. [11]

Arbitration

  • Following a recent arbitration case, the Arbitration Committee reminded administrators that checkuser and oversight blocks must not be reversed or modified without prior consultation with the checkuser or oversighter who placed the block, the respective functionary team, or the Arbitration Committee.

New Page Reviewer newsletter Ferbuary 2020

Hello Hmlarson/Archive,

Source Guide Discussion

The first NPP source guide discussion is now underway. It covers a wide range of sources in Ghana with the goal of providing more guidance to reviewers about sources they might see when reviewing pages. Hopefully, new page reviewers will join others interested in reliable sources and those with expertise in these sources to make the discussion a success.

Redirects

New to NPP? Looking to try something a little different? Consider patrolling some redirects. Redirects are relatively easy to review, can be found easily through the New Pages Feed. You can find more information about how to patrol redirects at WP:RPATROL.

Discussions and Resources
Refresher

Geographic regions, areas and places generally do not need general notability guideline type sourcing. When evaluating whether an article meets this notability guideline please also consider whether it might actually be a form of WP:SPAM for a development project (e.g. PR for a large luxury residential development) and not actually covered by the guideline.

Administrators' newsletter – March 2020

News and updates for administrators from the past month (February 2020).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, the blocking policy was changed to state that sysops must not undo or alter CheckUser or Oversight blocks, rather than should not.
  • A request for comment confirmed that sandboxes of established but inactive editors may not be blanked due solely to inactivity.

Technical news

  • Following a discussion, Twinkle's default CSD behavior will soon change, most likely this week. After the change, Twinkle will default to "tagging mode" if there is no CSD tag present, and default to "deletion mode" if there is a CSD tag present. You will be able to always default to "deletion mode" (the current behavior) using your Twinkle preferences.

Women's Ice Hockey Task Force Newsletter: October 2020

Hello WHOCKEY editors!

The Women's Football/Soccer Task Force uses periodic newsletters to keep its members looped in on task force happenings and adopting the practice may serve useful for WP:WHOCKEY – let’s give it a try! If you have any feedback or ideas regarding the WP:WHOCKEY newsletter, please post on the news talk page. This newsletter is sourced and minimally altered from the WOSO April 2018 newsletter created by our own Hmlarson.

Drawing further inspiration from WP:WOSO, work has begun on a few initiatives that will emphasize making more WHOCKEY links blue (similar to the work that WikiProject Women in Red does) and filling in the gaps within various league, team, and player, etc. articles. The hope is that the initiatives will make it easier for editors to find the pages and topics of most interest to them.

Initiative pages are currently in the works and will be fully functional by the second week of the month. If you're interested in collaborating with others to make more links blue, once the initiatives are up and running, you’ll be able to sign up on an initiative page and help grow the lists, add potential references, resources, and create the articles. If there is a subject that you feel ought to have an initiative of it’s own, creating your own initiative is welcomed and encouraged.

Did you know ...

WP:GNG takes precedence over WP:NHOCKEY (which only includes players on women's national teams at the highest tier of IIHF competition)? Often times there is enough media coverage to meet WP:GNG or other notability guidelines. This is the last month of the AUG-SEP-OCT spotlight on Diversity in Women's Ice Hockey

During the spotlight on diversity, editors are encouraged to celebrate the array of identities represented within the sport by improving or creating bio pages for ice hockey people of various cultures, ethnicities, heritages, religious beliefs, sexual orientations, gender identities, abilities, and other diverse characteristics.

Next month kicks off the NOV-DEC-JAN spotlight on Collegiate Leagues!

Hello WOSO editors!

What a year to be alive. As usual (but perhaps even moreso since there have been unexpected quarantines), there has been a lot of activity on player, team, league and tournament-related Wikipedia articles with all of the worldwide coverage of women's football / soccer. Great work!

Fall Focus: FA WSL articles

You may have noticed lots of great things going on for the top English league this year: the FA WSL. More (international!) broadcasts, top international player signings, improved media coverage, and increased viewership. Let's keep the momentum brewing, shall we?

Here's a sampling of articles that could use creation, expansion or updating. What will you commit to working on?

Historical Topics
Managers
Teams
Players
Other

See also Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Women's football task force/Initiatives/FA WSL to collaborate and organize with other editors.

Every little bit helps! Thanks for your contributions!

Hello Hmlarson, I noticed that the in the news section of the Portal:Women's association football is really out of date. I also saw that you were the only 1 who's ever edited it. Because the page takes it's info through a bot and I'm not familiar with that stuff, I didn't want to screw around with it. I don't know how, or even if it can be improved, but I believe that in it's current form it's worse than useless. I would advocate for deleting that whole section as it now stands. Regards, --Dutchy45 (talk) 17:18, 26 November 2020 (UTC)

Thanks Dutchy45! What a lovely message. May your day be filled with something more than this. With gratitude, Hmlarson (talk) 17:23, 26 November 2020 (UTC)

Hmm, so I take it you disagree with the way I delivered my message? If so, I apologise. It was never my intention to be, or even seem to be, critical of you. I know you're doing a lot of quality work on women's football and as a long-time reader but only recent member of the taskforce I certainly appreciate all your labors. The only point I was trying to make is that events from 2012 and 2013 really can not be considered news. I leave it in your hands if something needs to be done about this. They are certainly much more capable than mine. Dutchy45 (talk) 16:14, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
Thanks Dutchy45. I'll work on it when time allows. By chance are you interested in editing articles on Dutch and Belgium players? What inspired you to join the taskforce? Hmlarson (talk) 02:58, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
I'm definitely willing to help out with Dutch and Belgian players. (within my limited capabilities!) I found myself reading and updating more and more women's football articles as my own interest in the women's game grew and figured; I might as well join the taskforce for a more structural approach. Dutchy45 (talk) 13:04, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
@Dutchy45: You can find (some) requested articles here (I just added a few notable Belgian footballers who were capped for the senior national team) :) --SuperJew (talk) 13:30, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
Thanks SuperJew, I'm allready aware off the projects open tasks page. I've actually created a few articles in the past that were mentioned there. Dutchy45 (talk) 13:44, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

A little WOSO challenge for you ;)

If you want to create an article about Lesotho's captain, Boitumelo Rabale. I started out finding the sources already at the task force page. In general, I'm sure at least half of the Lesotho squad can get pages (at least they pass the WP:NFOOTY mark of making at least one senior appearance, and most will in the upcoming weeks in the tournament). Even more in general that can be said about most of the red-linked players on 2020 COSAFA Women's Championship squads page. --SuperJew (talk) 19:30, 3 November 2020 (UTC)

Thanks SuperJew - I'm focusing on all the foreign players playing in England's Women's Super League for the foreseeable future. So many Australians, Americans, Swedes, and Germans. Also watching the Continental Cup match from the US today on a legit stream! Woot. Hi Sam Kerr! Hmlarson (talk) 19:47, 3 November 2020 (UTC)
That's good - they all pass WP:NFOOTY too, though I'm sure that also WP:GNG. Regards to Sammy ;) --SuperJew (talk) 19:49, 3 November 2020 (UTC)
If you rely on NFOOTY, you end up with lots of stubs that will likely get deleted, but you know that. Hmlarson (talk) 20:04, 3 November 2020 (UTC)
That's evident. I meant it that you won't have a bunch of deletionists trying to purge the articles. --SuperJew (talk) 23:23, 3 November 2020 (UTC)

Happy New Year 2021!
