your edits to WikiProject Resource Exchange
[edit]Hey. I did not mean that your reference to the German project is irrelevant, but that it is irrelevant for the section where you placed the reference. Also you should note that there is already a link to your project on the main page of the Resource Exchange. If you click on the German version link on that page, you get directed to http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Bibliothek. I really don't see the need to give an extra, extensive explanation about the German project: it disturbs to overview and working of the English project, plus if we do it for the German project we'll have to do it for 8 other language versions of the project. This is not how Wikipedia and linking between the different language versions of Wikipedia works. That's why the 'languages box' to the left of every article was created. I also noticed that you have two projects with a similar goal on the German Wikipedia: Bibliothek and Bibliothekrecherche. Adding both projects to the language version box is not possible, see Wikipedia:Interlanguage links and Help_talk:Interlanguage_links#How_to_deal_with_multiple_articles_in_another_language. This is a problem you have to resolve internally on the German Wikipedia. Or you'll have to do with a reference to one of those projects. Key (talk) 23:34, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
It was relevant on the place I put it on. It's not helpful to list an Austrian university library in the Shared section but not to mention the German project. Nobody cares of interwiki link. As Wikipedian active since 2004 with thousands of contributions in Wikimedia projects there is no need to educate me in this way: This is not how Wikipedia and linking between the different language versions of Wikipedia works.--Historiograf (talk) 10:12, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be a smartass, but it is not how linking between different language versions work. I'm not making this up, I gave a link to the guidelines. I also really think it disturbs the overview and slows down the working of the project if we are going to use a lot of room for linking to other projects. So we limit it to the language box and the 'See also' section. I feel strongly about this, because I just spend a couple of days simplifying the whole project, trying to keep every instruction as short as possible and every double link removed, so that people won't have to read pages before they can actually use the project. I just want to make our project as efficient as possible. Also, you placed your link in a section where people are supposed to place their library, not Wikiprojects. That nobody cares about interwiki links, as you believe, is not the problem of my project or your project, but that is something that must be solved on a Meta level. People should care about interwiki links. I don't want to be difficult or anything, but please think this over. If you still believe that your project needs to be given an extra mention, I'll put your link in the 'See also' section, with the other related projects. This is the habit on the English Wikipedia. - You know what, I think I have a good solution! I'll put your sentence: "Please note that there are other language versions of this WikiProject offering library help. German or Austrian or Swiss academic libraries have licensed a lot of databases in English languages." - Trying to be as efficient as possible is aiming to be as helpful as possible if you think about it. If the project doesn't keep instructions and links to a minimum, nobody will read any of them or try to but won't find their way. Editors need to learn some things on their own (like that the interwiki links are an option if you want to look for more information).. That's called information skills.
