I'm considering releasing IRC logs of the en and en-admins channels. I would do so onwiki, in a non-disruptive fashion. I'm seeking an arbcom injunction against any admin blocking me merely for releasing logs, or oversighting/deleting the logs. How can I obtain such? Contact me on-wiki! Hipocrite (talk) 22:42, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
- Posting full logs of the channels would be breaking the channel rules, and so it would likely result in a channel ban for anyone who does so, or provides logs to allow someone else to do so. Additionally posting the entirety of the logs could be seen by some as a copyright violation, if read in the strictest sense. That may result in the removal of logs from enwiki regardless of whether the "no public logging" rule would be enforced here. If there is a specific issue that would need to be addressed on wiki, or by arbcom (following the usual standards for offwiki communication) those logs could be made available. Publishing full logs of the channel would detract from the more informal atmosphere that IRC offers, which is why those logs aren't made available. Any user is welcome to join #wikipedia-en connect, and see the typical atmosphere of the channel for themselves. IRC is typically a place for Wikipedians to idly chat about anything in particular, rather than a place to discuss on wiki actions. Some appear to picture it as a far more nefarious place than it actually is. Prodego talk 23:13, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

IRC logs
You can't release them due to the copyright violation that would create. The people sending the messages have not agreed to release their content under the GFDL and CC-by-SA licenses. (I suppose you could release your own comments, however, since you can license your messages as you like.) Reaper Eternal (talk) 14:23, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
- Where did you get your law degree from and are you qualified to practice in New York? Who are you representing in this instance? Hipocrite (talk) 14:46, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
- It doesn't take a law degree to understand that posting copyrighted material as GFDL or CC-by-SA is inappropriate. Read what is written below this edit box: "By clicking the "Save Page" button...you irrevocably agree to release your contribution under the CC-BY-SA 3.0 License and the GFDL." If somebody else owns the copyright, you obviously cannot release it under a free license. Reaper Eternal (talk) 16:12, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

A notification that the Templates for Discussion discussion (oy, repetition) has been taken to a deletion review discussion. The Article Rescue Squadron was notified, and as notifications to previous involved parties isn't normal practise, I and a few ARS members agreed that, in the interests of transparency and fairness, we should let everyone know...hence this talkpage message ;).
If anyone has an issue with me sending these out, do drop me a note on my talkpage. Regards, Ironholds (talk) 10:26, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
