Miscellaneous

Hi there. When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:
Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field. If you are adding a section, please do not just keep the previous section's header in the Edit summary field – please fill in your new section's name instead. Thank you. — SpikeToronto 20:05, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I know that already. --Hicukujoe (talk) 01:10, 6 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Multiple Accounts

[edit]

Hi Hicukujoe! Are you also the editor who has the account User:Historyhermann? (For the purposes of the subsequent discussion, I will, correctly or incorrectly, assume that the answer is “yes”.) If so, I would like to direct you to the Wikipedia policy, Wikipedia:Sock puppetry (shortcut → WP:SOCK). In a nutshell,

The general rule is one editor, one account. Do not use multiple accounts to mislead, deceive, or disrupt; to create the illusion of greater support for a position; to stir up controversy; or to circumvent a block. Do not ask your friends to create accounts to support you.

However, there are legitimate reasons to have more than one account. These are discussed at Wikipedia:Sock puppetry#Legitimate uses (shortcut → WP:SOCK#LEGIT). If one’s two accounts do qualify as legitimate, then one is required to place appropriate notification at the top of the userpages for each of these accounts. For more on this, I direct you to Wikipedia:Sock puppetry#Alternative account notification (shortcut → WP:SOCK#NOTIFY).

Finally, if your intention had been simply to effect a change of account name, this would have been more appropriately handled by the process outlined at Wikipedia:Changing username (shortcut → WP:RENAME). If this was indeed your intent, now that you have already created your new account under your new name, and if you have no legitimate use for the old account, you should ask a checkuser to officially confirm that you and User:Historyhermann are one and the same, and then to redirect the old userpage and old talkpage to the new userpage and new talkpage, after blanking the contents of the old pages.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Thanks! — SpikeToronto 20:39, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am in no way connected with historyhermann's account. It just let me edit the page and I did so. --Hicukujoe (talk) 01:10, 6 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
