Speedy deletion nomination of Research Paradigms - Howard E. Zimmerman
Thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and the page that you created has been or soon will be deleted. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. ttonyb (talk) 23:59, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
- Hello, Hezimmerman, I saw you comment that you are unable to move an article in to the mainspace and I took a look at the text in question. Unfortunately general CV's are not considered good article material. I suggest you take a look at the Welcome message above, specifically links related to Your first article and How to write a great article for help in creating the article. If you have any questions, please let me know. Thanks... ttonyb (talk) 00:05, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
The article Hezimmerman has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:18, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Hezimmerman
A tag has been placed on Hezimmerman requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

Hezimmerman moved to User:Hezimmerman
From your comments on the article talk page, it sounded like you meant this to be your userpage. I have moved it accordingly. It, as written - a straight CV, was not appropriate as an article. If I can explain further, or help you at all, please let me know. LadyofShalott 16:56, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
- It sounds like you are Howard E. Zimmerman, and you intend to write a Wikipedia article about yourself. This is not explicitly forbidden, and at first glance, Mr. Zimmerman appears to meet the criteria for inclusion outlined at WP:ACADEMIC (others may disagree). However, if my first statement is true, please at least skim Wikipedia:Autobiography before creating the article. Let me know if you need help or have any questions. Further help may be found at the help desk. KuyaBriBriTalk 17:07, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

Hello, please take a look at the article as it is now. You can add more information, but you can not just post a CV. Please do not do that again. Information given should be in text/paragraph format and include references. LadyofShalott 17:27, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
- Stop! You can not post your CV as the contents of an article. Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not the place to post your résumé. LadyofShalott 20:14, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Howard Zimmerman. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period. Additionally, users who perform several reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. When in dispute with another editor you should first try to discuss controversial changes to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. Should that prove unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. Please stop the disruption, otherwise you may be blocked from editing. You have been told 3 times that you cannot just post a CV as a Wikipedia article; it must be written in prose. I don't want to request a block, as it seems you are a notable subject, but you continue edit warring I will have no choice but to request one. KuyaBriBriTalk 20:10, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
I have just fixed your latest edit. You wanted a category for the Academy of Sciences, not a reference. You really need to learn the way wikpedia works. --Bduke (Discussion) 23:43, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of User:Hezimmerman
A tag has been placed on User:Hezimmerman, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}

Some of us want to help you
Howard, I can see that all this must seem very difficult to you. I will try to help. Please go to my user page and click on the email link to the left, and then email me. I am a retired quantum chemist who knows about your book, but I am also an experienced wikipedia editor and administrator on wikipedia. --Bduke (Discussion) 11:35, 18 December 2009 (UTC)
Suggestions
Here are some unofficial comments on working with Wikipedia-Chemistry:
- 1) If you are having trouble with entering references and related content, you can just paste your comments into the Talk pages. e.g. Talk:Birch reduction. Others will deal with the formatting.
- 2) Referencing one's own work is probably something to be minimized within Wikipedia for many reasons. It looks tacky too.
- 3) Wikipedia does not aspire to compete with Chem. Reviews. The kinds of references sought are to books ("tertiary sources") or to reviews, not the primary literature. Check out WP:SECONDARY. I realize that a lot of primary literature is already cited in Wikipedia, but many such journal references will eventually be replaced by broader sources. Broader sources are admittedly more demanding.
- Cheers, --Smokefoot (talk) 01:10, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
A list of impartial links and references is available but I may be the only one who knows how to find them.
I can supply them but will do that only if requested in view of the concern that they might be biased. They could be used by Editors if wanted. They consist of articles and writings by persons other than me. But I am reluctant to send them without a request. If they are wanted, please give me an E-mail address of where to send the links and references.

Rules on Wikipedia
The Wikiproject chemistry will help you! Several important things you should know befor. I think you would never send a article to JACS without looking into the rules how to write an article and submit it (wiki has a lot of rules how to write). You would also not dare to get into an edit fight with the reviwers (here it is the same). This rules are also good for wikipedia.
- Wikipedia does not care who you are. If you are professor, the president or a pupil in a gramar school the credibility comes with work on the articles. Everybody has to give references to credible sources.
- Conflict of interest and self promotion are a problem here on wikipedia and therefore the rules are hard and most of the time it is thought apropriate that you never start a article on yourself, because if you are notable somebody else will start one soon.
- Add references too your own work is considered problematic and therefore put it onto the talk page of the article and wait for a discussion to start there.
- Do not push your point of view, most of the time a group of people gethers to oppose. Even if you are partly right and you are a professor does not ensure that after discussion your point of view will survive.
- If you want to get a good editor on wikipedia, learn by looking what others do!!

WWII tank corps
Hello,
I noticed in your biographical article, that you were a tanker in WWII. I was wondering if you knew much about Lafayette G. Pool? Or if you could help sketch out any information about allied tankers with especially distinguished combat records (ie. those Wikipedia would consider notable)? I've been trying to build allied tanker bio articles for a while now, with a rather sketchy Sydney Radley-Walters to show for it.
I do understand that on Wikipedia, personal recollections are not considered a reliable source and should not be used in articles, but recollections can serve as pointers to things that are considered as reliable sources.

There are also many missing tank-position articles, such as tank gunner, that you might be interested in creating. 70.29.210.242 (talk) 00:14, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
Birch Reduction
{{HelpMe}} I've finally put in an Article on the "Birch Reduction". It is on my Talk Page (which should be temporary until I get the two drawings put in). I have drawings in .gif and .cdx format but can get most formats. However, I don't seem to be able to paste the drawings in.
The article has the Correct Mechanism, Descripition, and Correct References for the Birch Reduction. The present article in Wikipedia is terribly incomplete and doesn't deal with the correct mechanism and doesn't give up-to-date references. Arthur Birch over the years wandered back and forth between the wrong mechanism and an admixture with the correct one. He ignored the early evidence that he was in error. In any case the current article is misleading.

- I have moved your draft article into your userspace. You can find it at User:Hezimmerman/Birch reduction. LadyofShalott 20:26, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
- You need to upload a file and insert it into the article. fetchcomms☛ 20:33, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
Howard, I will work on getting your material into place in the Birch Reduction article but I am a bit busy right now. Email me the diagrams and I'll check them before you upload them. The subpage is the best place for your draft. Regards, --Bduke (Discussion) 21:56, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
March 2010
Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia! I noticed that you recently added commentary to an article, Birch reduction. While Wikipedia welcomes editors' opinions on an article and how it could be changed, these comments are more appropriate for the article's accompanying talk page. If you post your comments there, other editors working on the same article will notice and respond to them and your comments will not disrupt the flow of the article. However, keep in mind that even on the talk page of an article, you should limit your discussion to improving the article. Article talk pages are not the place to discuss opinions of the subject of articles nor are such pages a forum. Thank you. Mysdaao talk 12:18, 19 March 2010 (UTC)

Question for administrator
I put in a much improved version of my article on the Birch Reduction and uploaded six drawing which go into it. But I seem able to only access the earlier version of the article which is in my user space and I don't have access to the six drawings to put into the new version.
In the article I have noted in italics where each of the six drawings go.
I would really like to replace the old article with the new one once I have been able to transfer one table which took some time to format properly in the old version. The new version of the article is expanded now to include all aspects of interest to the Birch Reduction.
There is a Birch article which is laden with errors and limitations. I have a file documenting this. Beyond that, the current article doesn't deal with regioselectivity, the reasons for the reaction going as it does and the problem of central protonation.
Thus eventually, my article would replace the current Birch one.
In any case, I need help in locating the article I submitted today and also locating the six drawings. If some kindly editor were willing to put the drawings in place, of course that would be helpful. Otherwise I can do that.

(An alternative response)
- Hi there.
- You can see pages that you created by looking at Special:Contributions/Hezimmerman.
- This shows that you created User:Hezimmerman/new article name here, and User:Hezimmerman/Birch reduction. The live article is, of course, just Birch reduction.
- Similarly, you can find files that you added to commons by looking at your contributions to Commons, which shows that you uploaded these files;
- File:Fig 3 Cyclohexadienyl-Anion.gif
- File:Fig 2 Birch-Benzoic Mech.gif
- File:Fig 1 Birch-Mechs O&M.gif
- File:(3) Birch Basic-Mech.gif
- File:(2) Birch-Benzoic.gif
- File:(1) Birch-Anisole.gif
- File:Cyclohexadienyl Anion.gif
- You can add those to an article by adding
[[File:FILENAME.GIF|thumb|Caption goes here]]
.
- For more help, you can either;
- Leave a message on my own talk page;
OR
- Use a {{helpme}} - please create a new section at the end of your own talk page, put {{helpme}}, and ask your question - remember to 'sign' your name by putting ~~~~ at the end;
OR
- Talk to us live, with this or this.
- The last of those is particularly useful - please try it; pop in now and say hello. Chzz ► 21:48, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
Fixes
Hi there.
Further to our conversation, you left the chat; anyway - I noticed that the picture would not work, because you also had the filename wrong - so I fixed it. The exact code I inserted was;
[[File:(1) Birch-Anisole.gif]]
The file name must be exactly what you uploaded it as - see the list I wrote before.
Also, I have fixed the formatting of the first two references. I will add help on this below. Cheers, Chzz ► 01:39, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
