Well thank you. That's a lot of good info. Wish I could have seen all that when I got started an hour ago! deface a facade! 18:22, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Might make more sense to call this a "write" page than a "talk" page but whatever. deface a facade! 17:30, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hiya. I saw your note on the talk page after I'd redirected the page. Generally you can change the name of a page by clicking on the "move" tab at the top of the page and moving it to a better name. It has to be done with care though as moving the page can mess up existing links from other pages - click on "what links here" on the left hand side of the page to see pages which link to it, and be ready to change those pages so that they link to the correct one. If lots of pages link to the one you're planning to move, then moving it may not be a good idea.

In the case of this page thoug, I noticed that there's already quite a long article about HMS Vandal at HMS Vandal (P64), so I've redirected your page to there. Maybe you could do some work on that page instead - I'm sure there's still stuff to add. Generally it's a good idea to do a search before you create an article, in case the subject is covered elsewhere under a name you didn't anticipate. Wow this is quite a sysem. And that existing article is great! Better than I could have done alone. Funny thing I clicked a link and got a page inviting me to create the article, so I went with what I have stored in my brain at the moment. deface a facade! 19:12, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I think there has been a mistake. When I tried to fix up my homepage just now it said I was "blocked" from doing so and to place these brackets (above) here. Will someone check and tell me what is going on? I'd do it myself but have no idea where to start.

Decline reason:

You haven't been autoblocked, you've been normally blocked. — Haemo 01:30, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

Please explain what "autoblock" and "normal block" have to do with me and when you do, please do it as though you're dealing with somebody who knows next to nothing about these things, as is the case with me. deface a facade! 01:37, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Decline reason:

As per below. And please refrain from using the unblock template except to explain why this particular block is invalid. — Yamla 01:59, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

An autoblock is a 24 hour block automatically applied to an IP address by the software after a user is blocked, this can often result in collateral damage (people using a shared IP being blocked). A normal block, as was applied to your account is applied directly to an account or an IP address for a specific reason. You were blocked by User:JzG for the reason: "Unquesitonably an alternate account, appears to exist solely for trolling." If you wish to appeal, you should explain why that is incorrect. Block

[edit]

You were blocked by JzG because it is uncommon for user new to Wikipedia to involve themselves in major disputes as you did at Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Attack sites/Workshop. This is more often seen when a user has created another account to conceal their identity. JzG has assumed that to be the case with your account and further assumed that your purpose in doing so is to disrupt the discussion and/or harass participants. As JzG is a partisan in that debate and there are no grounds in our blocking policy for blocking people over things you suspect they are going to do I consider this block highly improper. However, as I am myself also a partisan in that debate it wouldn't be proper for me to simply overturn it.

What I will do is ask whether you are willing to simply leave off participating in that discussion or, if you wish to continue with that discussion, agree not to be disruptive or incivil in doing so. An explanation of whether or not this username is a 'secondary' account and your reasons for creating it if so would also be very helpful.

It is possible that some admin not involved in the underlying dispute will remove your block on general principles (I certainly would if I were a neutral party here), but answers to the above questions would likely go a long way in securing such an unblocking. --CBD 21:10, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I also would like to see answers to these questions to assist in evaluating any unblock request. Newyorkbrad 21:13, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What a strange situation. I created this account when I followed a link to an article that didn't appear to exist (about the HMS Vandal) and was invited to create it if I first created an account, which I did. That was over a week before I found the discussion on the "attack" blogsite but I have no recollection of how I arrived there. Free speech issues are my bread and butter and I tried to add some stimulating insights, not realizing I had stumbled upon a special class of conversation.
My problem then, as now, is that I can't find the stuff at the middle of the debate and nobody seems to know where it is. That's what I was asking JZG about when he decided to end my editorship before it really began.
If I'm prohibited from taking part in the debate, so be it. Why didn't anybody just tell me as much?
Honestly, if this is how things work here, just leave me blocked because I don't need the frustration. deface a facade! 00:39, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
