Hi. I have not really interacted with you in the past, but I would just like to say that J.delanoy and others were not getting at you personally, they were only commenting on your signature. If you really feel like retiring, I can't do anything but if it's just over that little misunderstanding, then think it over. You are a good editor from what I've seen. Thanks. AFD

Allmusic and BMI are not significant coverage in reliable sources. I can't tell if the sources mentioned in the AFD are significant coverage because I can only read like two sentences. An article existing about a song that didn't chart doesn't mean that this article should stay. Just because no one bothered to nominate it for deletion, doesn't mean that it is notable. Sophia Lamar

Thanks for the welcome!

I do have a question regarding the article for "Sophia Lamar" and whether or not it meets the criteria for notability under WP:BIO. It has no sources, reads like a glowing review, and might have been submitted/edited by the subject of the article (see the article's discussion page). I just don't think it meets the criteria of WP:BIO as specified for an entertainer. I tried asking for help on the IRC channel and got nowhere. Your thoughts? cswpride (talk) 13:39, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi there! The article exists for more than three years and is under the scope of several important wiki projects (see Talk:Sophia Lamar), what of course does not mean that there's no doubt about the notability of its subject. You can do several things: First you can include some template:fact tags, asking for reliable sources. Another step would be to nominate the article for deletion at WP:AFD and see what happens. Is there anybody willing to improve it or not? What will this anon IP do? It's your choice.--Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 16:51, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Need Help What to do?

Hello Dear Hexa,

In the past few days I been trying to update some stuff and put a make-up on some of the articles. I am not Good in Wikipedia and i am not sure how it works, I am trying my best and i have read some pages where it teaches us few step etc.

For example I don't know what to do, when someone changes the article in which I tried my best to make sure there is no confusion, and make sure the facts are there with proves/Sources/Links etc etc. Now can you please have a look at this article, Khalilullah Khalili, where i made some changes yesterday, and i tried to provide sources, now I was told its better to have a well known researched sources that can be easily accessible, for example a researched/documented website. So that's what i did. I am my self an Afghan, born in Afghanistan and came here not long ago. I guess that's personal, now What matters are the facts. Anyways I edited the article taking my time well, and provided accessible sources, and to make sure there is no confusion to where i get my main points/ from, I came up with references. Today it was changed by one of the users, named Tajik and the article which he wants on wikipedia, contradicts with few of the facts, creating further confusion.

So I don't know what to do? Should I such Rv back to yesterday's edition, or Should I just leave it as it is despite its greater confusion, another reason for people to ignore Wikipedia, simply because one person has taken over.

Please have a look at the article, it would be very appropriated. Thanks

Alishah85 (talk) 23:13, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

I would not just revert it as this will lead to an edit war that nobody wants or needs. You did the best thing, you started to talk. I'm no expert on Afghanistan and so may not help you much. You can contact the other author, Tajik and find a consensus with him. If this is not possible I would contact the involved wikipedia projects that left their templates on the article's talkpage - WP:WikiProject Afghanistan, WP:WikiProject Central Asia and WP:WikiProject Poetry which should have some experts on the topic who can find a way to solve the conflict.--Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 23:23, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Dear Hexachord thanks for your advice. I did what you asked me to do so, but unfortunately the article is still being changed, and i have this difficulty dealing the same IP user names. what happens if we continue this so called "War edit" and i was wondering i did my best to explain and provided sources as you said which were required, but what happens when people continuously change the stuff which i have touched.

thanks for your kind advice

bye

Alishah85 (talk) 08:52, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi there! Well, it's not easy for me to see what's true and what's not as I'm no expert on the topic. Is there no help available from the involved WikiProjects? If nothing helps, you can file for Mediation. Avoid to violate WP:3RR or you might get blocked. If you see the anon IP violating this rule report it. Have fun!--Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 09:11, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Hello / question

Hello! I'm very new to Wikipedia, and have tried to find an answer to my question in the faq and other instructional pages, but am still unsure of how to proceed.

I added info to some pages for a band called the Smalls, only to have it removed by another user. In the history pages, this particular user (Delicious Carbuncle) shows a pattern of removing information. A third user (Strobilus) and I have both tried using the talk pages and are met with pedantic refusal to discuss the issue. I don't believe Delicious Carbuncle would agree to moderation, so I would like to have this user blocked from destroying these pages. If you could offer me any assistance or direction in this matter, I would appreciate it.

Thanks! Donnaredding (talk) 02:01, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi there! I don't see much edit warring here, nor do I see any discussion here. What's the matter?--Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 21:55, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Oh sorry! http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=The_Smalls_(album)&action=history and http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User_talk:Delicious_carbuncle (second from last at the bottom I think)

All of the albums pages are unilaterally removed without discussion. Donnaredding (talk) 02:00, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Ok, now I understand the case. Well, there's only one thing you can try. Ask at WP:PUNK for help. Is the album really notable? Are there interviews, reviews etc. on the web available showing its notability? Maybe you can build a better article, showing the notability. Build it on your own pages or the project's sites, and then after getting it to a satisfying status move it back. How about that? Contact the other editor, Strobilus, to help you. Contact User:IllaZilla for WP:PUNK. Hope this helps! --Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 09:34, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Guns N'Roses songs

Hi. You put {{hoax}} tags on a lot of articles about unreleased Guns N'Roses songs. There seems to be plenty of evidence on the web that they exist, e.g. [2] and [3]. Whether they are notable is another matter, but {{hoax}} doesn't seem an appropriate tag. Did you have some particular reason for it? Regards, JohnCD (talk) 09:36, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Well, WP:GNR does not have them under its scope and at least one other author has doubted their existance in this form. Judge for yourself...--Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 21:52, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
Anyway, they fail WP:NSONGS fairly comprehensively; I have PRODded most of them and left a note for WP:GNR (sorry, I thought I had left this note for you at the time, but I must have failed to click "Save" after doing "Preview"). Regards JohnCD (talk) 13:33, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
I don't feel much like rescuing them right now. But why not open a proper AfD, one case for all of them? So nobody can say, they had been slaughtered in the dark?--Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 13:42, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
Yes, you're probably right, and I have done as you suggest - the AfD is here. I hesitated because people tend to object on principle to mass AfDs: "We ought to consider these one at a time"; but these articles are more or less identical and separate AfDs would be a waste of space. re:removing pictures

I did fix a number of fair use rationales. However, for image uses that I believe to be in violation of NFC, I won't bother to write rationales. Album cover art rarely belongs on pages about the artist in question. I wasn't trying to create more work for anybody; I was trying to bring articles in line with our policies. Seems like you disagree. Care to explain a bit further in case I'm missing something? If you want, we can ask as media copyright question to get outside input, because I still don't believe enough has been done to the article, nor the rationale for those Aphex Twin album covers to belong on that page. Hopefully, you'll reconsider, and we can simply agree now to remove those images! Thank you for your consideration.-Andrew c [talk] 04:25, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

What is speaking against using an album cover in a section about the album on the artist's page? Well, I couldn't use the picture here or on a Aphex project page - but even using it in an article about electronic music would be legal - if there's a section about the album or the artist. What's wrong with the FURs right now? Don't tell me it's wrong - but tell me what you think is wrong and how it can be solved.--Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 14:46, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
First of all, there isn't even a section on that article dedicated to each of these albums. They are mentioned in passing, at best. I'd also say that the "purpose" tag of "section" was applied wrongly in the template for the FUR. That template is optimized for articles about the album. This is a case where "artist" not "section" would be more appropriate. That said, there is a bid caveat (be careful here), when using the "artist" purpose. Perhaps you could explain in your own words how you believe this image meets our non-free content policy in that article. Can you write your own, tailored, unique fair use rational for these uses? Saying "there is a spot for it in the template" doesn't seem to get to the core of the issue here (because I do not believe there is a spot for this sort of use in the template). Templates should be for non-controversial uses that will have almost identical fair use rationals. When there is a dispute, the template should not be used, and a custom crafted FUR should be formulated. I personally don't believe that one could be crafted (which is why I removed the images). This is stemming from Wikipedia:Fair use#Images #1 for cover art. There is no critical commentary of this album art, and it's purpose seems to be akin to the unaceptable use of a discography gallery (in essence). Anyway, my offer of seeking addition input stands.-Andrew c [talk] 15:54, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
Well, if you want a third opinion - go for it. Maybe this will solve the problem.--Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 16:01, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Pink Floyd Wikiproject

You are right that the project is not really being managed. I have most articles on my watchlist, and do minor style corrections (and reverts) in response to edits, but that's about all. Regarding articles that should be deleted, maybe you've seen my rant about certain articles from a couple of months ago. Regarding your own list of possible AfDs, which are mostly song articles, I believe every Pink Floyd song currently has an article, which I realize is a situation that some would frown upon. There was a recent discussion somewhere about whether every song by the Beatles should have an article, and I had to agree with the argument that they should, but can't justify extending that to Pink Floyd. On the other hand, I think an article should stay if it contains one or two interesting facts, which many of the articles on your list do. On the other-other hand, those articles also contain a lot of fluff/OR/reviewer analysis/uncited & uncitable claims, so maybe that's why you chose them. Anyway, I would prefer to fix up articles instead of deleting them, and do recognize that not all Pink Floyd song articles are worth fixing. Example of a fix: back on October, the article for "Chapter 24" looked like [4], and was removed by another user. I thought to myself, dang, that was an article that I thought should be expanded, and was meaning to get around to doing that, so I immediately did some research, and today it looks like this. I'm not saying every PF song article could be improved like this. But if fluff can be removed, and a few notable facts left behind, then an article is worth preserving. Back to the subject of overhauling the whole project: In the past I tried to get the project page itself updated (there were a lot of redlinks on it), and found it hard to get a response. I'm reluctant to dive into a big project, with little support, that will likely turn into a cabal war. Putting out feelers for big changes, such as the PF talk page rant mentioned above, has received very little response. --A Knight Who Says Ni (talk) 02:02, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Of course every Pink Floyd or Beatles song should have an own article if there's something to tell about them. Plus, a very short article invites to add info. A big article about an album and its songs does not, that's somewhat repelling. So a couple of stubs is good to find new members for a WikiProject and as we clearly can see even the biggest acts need editors. You may understand how I feel about losing 90% of WP:BH's song articles...
You can count me in if it comes to working on the PF project. I'm a fan for about 20 years and have some literature. Today I got Mabbett's little book which could help in expanding several short articles as well as the expanded 2005 edition of Schaffner's book (does this exist in English, too?). I think we follow the same direction. --Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 02:52, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Re: F**ked for Life

Hey since it seems to be a real gang, should I just go ahead and close the afd with {{cleanup}} tags on it? §hawnpoo 02:43, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

I'd say let's see what WikiProject Sweden says. But it's your choice. --Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 02:47, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
Ok thanks for the input. I'll wait for Wikiproject: Sweden §hawnpoo 02:56, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

rescue tag

I am not sure that adding the rescue tag to the article First Canyon Rain was really a good idea. There is no reasonable possibility that sufficient sources will be found to meet the objections at the AfD since films not yet in production are almost never notable. The tag is more effective when there is a real chance of rescuing an article. It is so inappropriate, that I'm removing the tag. It is important not to let it fall into disrepute. DGG (talk) 18:00, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

This was a bit of a strange situation, since there were three related articles nominated, plus one only slightly related (Henry Mortensen (actor)). Since there's obvious dispute on the talkpage of this Kriss Perras article I tagged all of them to have some people other than the deletion squads look over them. This whole subject still is unclear for me, as to what really exists and what not. --Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 19:02, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
As the AfDs are leaning delet I suggest you considering merging content yourself into relevant articles. You might also temporarily userfy them into a list article so you can suss out how to combine things. -- Banjeboi 05:56, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
I already did this but got reverted.--Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 06:04, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
Huh? What got reverted? -- Banjeboi 08:39, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
The redirects for the remaining Buckethead songs. I already merged the content into their albums some days ago and redirected from the nominated pages to the respective sections. I got reverted, as you can clearly see by the notes in the AfDs. --Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 09:59, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
Ah, yeah until the AfD closes we let it run out. You may want to note at the AfD "Comment to closer. Relevant content already merged to album article" so they know that work has been done. I'm assuming the merged material was left alone? -- Banjeboi 10:16, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

OS

The statements made are not relevant to the article. I did make that clear and I gave a reason. Please to revert and claim I didnt give a reason when i clearly did (over and over) —Preceding unsigned comment added by W4uncw (talkcontribs) 19:09, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

The statements are sourced, I looked at them, they seem to back up the statements in the article. If you think the section should be removed from the article, you may propose it on the article's talkpage or ask for an expert. What has OS got to do with it? --Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 19:30, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

I'm not saying its accurate. It looks like it is. Like i said on the talk page (i followed protocol) its not remotely relevant to the article. In the talk section there has yet to be a good reason given why it is relevant to the article. It would be like posting random quote section to a page about a person who belongs to a group. The quotes have NO relevance to the article and should be removed. W4uncw (talk) 19:56, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, but I don't see consensus on the talkpage. Not even much discussion. You may ask at WP:3O for help or place an {{expert}} template on the article. My warnings stay, remove the section again and I'll file a case at WP:AIV. --Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 20:04, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Correction, we discussed it on the user who posted it's page. Not on the actual OS page. Should I repost what i said on his page? W4uncw (talk) 20:03, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

I'll have a look. See comments above. --Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 20:04, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, also no consensus there. --Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 20:06, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Why is it the rule that it stays then? Shouldn't the rule be that the person posting much give ample reason rather then someone like be being punished for reverting what is irrelevant? How can this stay merely because he doesn't agree that its irrelevant? What do you think as an outsider? At least then its not him getting his way merely because he wont agree and form consensus. W4uncw (talk) 20:18, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

A friend of mine would say "I'm pregnant - I have no opinion." which sums it up quite perfectly. The current revision is random. It could be the other way around with me and the other guy discussing. Wouldn't make a change. Leave the article as it is until an expert or third opinion has made a decision. --Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 20:34, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

There are now TWO different people who agree with me that it has no relevance and yet he refuses to take it down. In addition he calls this censorship? Censorship in a totally unrelated issue that I had nothing to do with, and yet still blames "you" like I personally am out to get him. At what point does it get changed so I dont get in trouble??? Because obviously I cant change it... W4uncw (talk) 14:38, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

At what point does this start? He reverted with out a reason!!! W4uncw (talk) 15:10, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

This is a campaign of vandalism. "Editors" censoring the OS page with no Wikipedia past, and anonymous edits as well.Mrnhghts (talk) 16:05, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

  • just because some of the people who disagree with him don't have a long past their views are just as important. At this point there are so many against one isn't it a consensus against him? At what point does someone step in. This isn't censorship its making sure the page only has relevant information on it, and this information is not. I even left part of what he added because i agree it may be relevant. But the rest is not Truism422 (talk) 16:13, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Long talkpage is looooong

I think it might be a good idea to start archiving your talk page. I'm on cable and it took me over 30 seconds to load it. (I found your talk page entirely by accident, as some n00b made a fairly common rookie mistake of placing a Helpme tag on someone else's talkpage). Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshellsOtter chirpsHELP) 20:31, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

63kB shouldn't take 30sec - but you're probably right. If I only knew how to set up automatic archiving... --Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 20:42, 14 March 2009 (UTC)
That was a bit of an exaggeration. You can always just archive manually like I did before the bot got to it. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshellsOtter chirpsHELP) 20:59, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

Master of Reality song stubs

I realize I'm not likely to talk you into !voting Merge over Keep, but when the AfD discussion is closed, would you help with merging the stubs into Master of Reality and finding sources for the content of the stubs? You seen to have access to reference material I do not have. It would be well appreciated, and a good way to preserve this information. / edg 21:11, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

I do not have much more than books.google.com, but guess other editors may have some secondary literature. About the merge, well there's a discussion going on here. Most interesting... --Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 21:21, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

Hey, shared IP here.

I'm 198.111.167.130 (talk). Sorry about the vandalism coming from this IP, it's a public library and nothing can really be done about it. I edited Wikipedia for a few years and know how much of a pain in the ass it is. Anyway, if the vandalism doesn't stop from the IP (and I doubt it will, since the high school kids come here after school in droves), don't hesitate to block. However, my only problem is with account creation. Please don't disable account creation; this is a public library and for many people, it's their only Internet access. If you block account creation and anonymous editing, you're cutting these people off entirely for something they didn't even do. But do what you must.

Accusing me of vandalism

My edit is not vandalism. You did not read my first edit summary. Cluebot reverted me. I did leave edit summary. Fordline (talk) 19:14, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

It IS vandalism, since the removal of several sections at least is controversial and has to be discussed on the article's talkpage first.--Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 19:21, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
Ok, I'll discuss it on the talk page first. Fordline (talk) 19:29, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

Question...

What are good things to do to help out here? That is the most constructive? I read the pages you posted on my talk page (Five Pillars...etc. ) but what is it YOU think needs doin? I end up doing a lot of undoing vandalism, but it seems likes a lit of others already do that, because before I can finish, someone else has done the job. So out of each corrected reversed vandalism I have to edit 5-8 pages til I get credit? Any way to do this faster, or see when someone else has already started? Oh- and how do I go about earning enough props to get barnstars? Is it only luck, or....Thanks in advance for reply,?
