Pygmy goats
[edit]Hello, I now have an account. I genuinely don't understand why I can't post my website in the "external links" section on the pygmy goat article. I've had people clicking through from Wikipedia and have been having a look around. As you can see on the website, there are no adverts as I do not make any money from it. I simply want to share my website with others. I thought the point of Wikipedia was to share information? Also the fact it's hosted on a fansite does not make it a fansite itself. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Henryandjoey (talk • contribs) 19:52, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
- Well for starters, as you say straight away, its your website, that means you shouldn't be linking to it anyway. Second, the point of wikipedia is to share information, but that doesn't mean we allow every possible website to be listed about a website, for example, if I google "Information on how to look after goats" as you listed on the goat article there are 6,760,000 results, should we list all of them? Or even for pgymy goats there are 77,400 links. And I could point out that your website in the top 50 of either of those links--Jac16888Talk 01:50, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
It's a shame that I'm getting caught up in red tape... on a Wikipedia article about pygmy goats of all places! If people wish to submit websites about pygmy goats, for example, then I don't see why they can't. If you don't like what they put (i.e. the content of what they have posted is false), or there are too many links, then you or another mod/admin could select ones to keep, so you had a dozen or so. Also the fact that my website hasn't had a certain number of hits or isn't in the top 50 or whatever is irrelevant in my view - the website was only re-launched a few weeks ago so it's new which is why it's got a relatively low number of hits. It's good that Wikipedia is being controlled by the mods/admins, but to be honest, I think removing links to genuine, information-providing, non-profit making websites is futile. If I was trying to post my website link in order to sell something, then I could understand it, but that's not what I'm doing. I won't bother re-posting it though because no doubt someone else will remove it because they can. Henryandjoey (talk) 09:32, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
