I have a little question. I see that you change the portal to work with "/backend" instead of subpages. I was wondering if there is any benefit of working with one page and not with multi-subpages?
Additionally, I want to delete the "Related portals" section because it's duplicate to "Sports portals". What do you think? Nimrodbr (talk) 18:12, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
- @Nimrodbr: Using a single (or at least fewer) subpages makes it easier to maintain the portal for regular users who do not want to sieve through hundreds of subpages. You can just go to the dedicated backend page and add or remove content. You don't have to create or remove subpages. Archiving old content is also way easier this way.
- Many portals just keep growing in terms of subpages. It becomes unmaintainable and also very unattractive for new users who might want to edit a portal, but then get confronted by an unnecessarily complex system of subpages.
- Using one backend page also makes it easier to guard the portal against vandalism. You only have to add one or two pages to your watchlist instead of dozens or hundreds. And the effects of vandalism are obvious and visible when the content is centralized like that.
- Regarding the "Related portals" section. I agree. There used to be way more portals in there, like the Paralympics portal and the Asia Games portal. But those all got deleted in the recent portal mass-MfDs. It is kind of pointless at the moment, I will remove it. --Hecato (talk) 14:48, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
note re invite
[edit]thanks so much for the invite to the new page for discussing guidelines for portals. by the way, one small note, the "ping" never reached me via notification; I simply happened to drop by that page, via a link from someone else's talk base.
based on that, you may want to leave an invite on each individual's talk page. it's just a suggestion. I really appreciate your help. thanks!! --Sm8900 (talk) 16:11, 14 November 2019 (UTC)
- @Sm8900: Thanks for the heads up! Will do. (Did this ping work?) --Hecato (talk) 16:17, 14 November 2019 (UTC)
- yes, that ping above actually worked fine. thanks. --Sm8900 (talk) 16:33, 14 November 2019 (UTC)
