My RfA

[edit]

If you considered ClueBot's contribution history as a secondary account of mine, disregarding completely the fact that it is a bot, would my contributions demonstrate that I am ready for adminship? Many, many users use tools like twinkle, popups, vandalfighter, amelvand, and the like on their main account and those contributions are considered just as if they had manually reverted. ClueBot is just another tool to help fight vandalism, but unlike other users I run it under another account. As for your comment about no participation at WP:AFD, I don't intend to work in that area any time soon, and I will definitely do a lot more research in that area prior to entering it as an admin. For your comment about no participation at WP:UAA, I have gone to report a username several times, but either a bot (most often) or someone else has beat me there. About WP:RFPP, I frequent that page, but, in general don't report there as a simple request on IRC in ##Cremepuff222 on freenode is often much quicker. I have listed several things for speedy deletion, but they don't appear in my contributions as they have all been deleted. As for my "handful" of vandalism reverts, it is because it is neigh impossible to beat ClueBot without admin rollback. Thanks for taking the time to read this. -- Cobi(t|c|b|cn) 05:39, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Yes, this is the picture I took. But I believe that the picture was placed in the wrong article; the picture is the Adirondack Hotel in Long Lake, New York and the article talks about some proposal at some kind of a hotel perhaps in NYC that has nothing to do with Adirondack Hotel. If you go to the playstation 3 page at http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Ps3 under software, (btw how do you link to get wiki to take you to the software part of the page is it http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Ps3/software or something like that?). On the software page it says the 2.10 update was available on the 17, but I know for Europe or the U.K it was the 18th here is my source http://uk.playstation.com/help-support/ps3/guides/detail/item89434/Update-features-%28ver-2-10%29/ so how to add as whatever edited the page has a weird link on the 17th? --Patrice58 (talk) 02:17, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Question 2

[edit]

Right erm I have a few points to make about what you did, first of all I asked you how to change the link. You tell me it's easy to change (that does not help me) then to really cap it off you do it for me which means I have to bother you again by asking you the same question again how did you change that link? I don't mean to sound horrible or rude as I know you was trying to help but doing things for me is not helping me and if I was thinking really deeply I could say it's nice taking the credit for someone else's work --Patrice58 (talk) 20:15, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Just to let you know that this IP had not edited after their final warning. TigerShark (talk) 23:27, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I understand what you are saying, but I would suggest that we unblock this IP due to the lack edits after the warning, and just keep an eye on it. What do you think? Cheers TigerShark (talk) 23:38, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks. I will try to keep a close eye on it too. Cheers TigerShark (talk) 23:45, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Luckily it seems that the IP user got bored after xe was blocked and hasn't edited since the unblock. Edits like this after any vandalism note clearly indicate that the user's not here to help, but I did want to let you that even though the last vandalism and final warning were both at 23:22, you can see which came first by looking at the revision ID. The final warning's oldid was 188261171 and the vandalism's oldid was 188261196. Just wanted to leave you this tip. :) Cheers, WODUP 05:03, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Block tip

[edit]

Hi, just letting you know that for blocks on IP addresses it's better to leave account creation blocked (it should already be ticked) on rather than leaving it off... Whatever is ticked by default should generally better be left ticked rather than unticked, I think. Of course, whatever you think is best in the situation at hand can easily override this. Cheers, Spebi 04:11, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, but the vandalism was blatant enough (and in the second case, libelous enough) that IMO a block was necessary to ensure he didn't come back for a while. When registered accounts do that we block them indefinitely. Some vandals should not be allowed to test the waters too much. Daniel Case (talk) 05:54, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Follow-up to XYplorer deletion from last July

[edit]

I had some "conversations" with you back in July 2007 about this topic.

Now just wanted to check on what the situation regarding XYplorer might be, now that it has been listed/mentioned in a print article (Best Free Software) in current issue of PC Magazine and was the "Software Pick of the Week" on a well known and respected podcast (Windows Weekly #37 with Leo Laporte & Paul Thurrott).

See XYplorer in PC Mag msg thread and XYplorer in WW msg thread for more details. It was thus also listed at WinSuperSite podcast which is another well known site for Windows info.

It has also recently been mentioned in Gizmo's Tech Support Alert newsletter XYplorer in TSA msg thread which has a large number of paid/free subscribers.

Would these well known media references now be enough to allow XY to be re-added to WP? If so, would you be willing to aid me and/or others in proper handling of such?

Thank you! (And I still don't have a WP ID...sorry! Update as of 02/22/08: Now known as User:WHR76) 71.122.237.240 (talk) 19:20, 15 February 2008 (UTC) J Hallgren[reply]

Hi! its been a long time since we last talked. I think that with the references you have now from PC Mag and Windows Weekly, XYplorer has established sufficient notability and an article can now be created on Wikipedia. I have created a temporary page with the restored version of the original article here: User:Hdt83/temp. --Hdt83 Chat 02:34, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Royaltrucklogo.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Royaltrucklogo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:20, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WP:AFC Backlog Drive

[edit]
WikiProject Articles for creation needs your help!
WikiProject Articles for creation has done a tremendous job in working at WP:AFC over the past 7½ months. Thank you all for your hard work and dedication! Together, we've made the submission process easier and more streamlined, developed tools to make the process go faster for reviewers, and cut the backlog down to a mere fraction of what it once was. Well done!

As you all are aware, however, our work is not quite yet done. The project still has 10 archive pages left to complete, which include over half a month's worth of submissions, many of which have not been completely reviewed. We need your help to finish looking over these neglected submissions so that we can finally remove the backlog notice from the page, and put an end to the more than two year old backlog that has been a thorn in our side for ages! Participants will receive an AFC Barnstar, so hurry up and help out while there's still work to be done! Make sure to sign in on the WikiProject's talk page so we know who is involved in what promises to be our final effort to complete this goal. Thank you for all your help!
- Happy editing as always, Hersfold (t/a/c) 16:33, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Given that I've got zero experience here, bear with me please. I've got myself an ID now (WHR76) as of tonight, and saw your reply to my prior posting but wasn't sure whether to add to it or follow instructions to add new, so chose latter. I did update prior with ID note however. I looked at the temp page and am not sure how to proceed exactly. Why? Major lack of WP experience, but also, want to avoid any COI potential. I have not and will not have ANY financial benefit from XY and actually have donated more than the retail license fee to author. My only gain is from the chance to use some of my expertise from prior career in data processing and the satisfaction of making it a better product and more known, as you likely do for WP. I do believe that I can, with your aid, create an updated article that is neutral, yet gives the desired information, such as links to sources I used to show notability. AfD nomination of XYplorer

[edit]

An editor has nominated XYplorer, an article which you have created or worked on, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/XYplorer (2nd nomination) and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 19:00, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
