Fair use rationale for Image:Dick Savitt Time Cover.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Dick Savitt Time Cover.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Corvus cornixtalk 01:32, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
Image:Lawry's_Inside_Menu.jpg
I have tagged Image:Lawry's_Inside_Menu.jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Some examples can be found at Wikipedia:Use rationale examples. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Non-free. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 14:11, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (Image:Dick Savitt Time Cover.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Dick Savitt Time Cover.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 01:32, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Sources for your images
Hi. I've been fixing some of your image uploads so that they are not deleted. I just need the copyright holders and sources of photographs like Image:Lacoste in USA 1926.jpg and Image:Lacoste in Car.jpg to fix them. Are they from your own collection, or did you get them from a website? I see from your contribution history that you do not edit Wikipedia frequently anymore, so it's fine if you don't reply. Image copyright problem with Image:Analog Sub in Martian Orbit.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Analog Sub in Martian Orbit.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --11:14, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
Vance emulations
I wasn't reacting to your work or that of others I know have produced Vance homages--it was the last addition to the list that prompted the comment, and all I had in mind was limiting the list to books that could be authoritatively identified as Vance-inspired. No dissing of your work intended. Nandesuka's "boldness" was more than I would have wanted. RLetson (talk) 20:11, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
- I don't invest a lot of energy, emotional or otherwise, in WP, but I do keep an eye on articles I've worked on and sometimes revert an idiocy or ask (or even answer) a question or two. I agree it's like commanding the tide to recede, but it's something to do before I toddle off to bed to read the next review book. Oops, my feet are getting wet--time to have the servants move my throne back a bit. RLetson (talk) 04:58, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Don Beach Front Cover.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Don Beach Front Cover.jpg.
Thank you. —Angr 14:01, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Saint Plays With Fire.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Saint Plays With Fire.jpg.
Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:05, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of William Haggard
A tag has been placed on William Haggard requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. AfD nomination of Phylum Monsters
I have nominated Phylum Monsters, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Phylum Monsters. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.
Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Wtshymanski (talk) 02:28, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
Hello, I am considering nominating this page for deletion due to notability and style issues. As a courtesy, I want to let you know so you have a chance to improve it. Thanks, momoricks (make my day) 04:25, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
- Hi again, I should have been more specific in my previous note. March appears to be notable; however, the page doesn't fully establish this in its current form. In addition, the text is quite confusing, as its random and sometimes conflicting. Expansion, rewording and proper citation should improve it immensely. I'm not a tennis history buff by any means, but please let me know if I can help in any way. Thanks! momoricks (make my day) 00:33, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
- I did some copyediting so it conforms to the manual of style. You appear to have access to appropriate sources, so I'm hoping you will take the time to revisit the page and add needed information, such as birth year/place, death year/place (if applicable), career highlights, etc. Thanks, momoricks (make my day) 03:33, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs
Hello Hayford Peirce! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 4 of the articles that you created are Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to these articles, it would greatly help us with the current 155 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:
- Bob Lutz (tennis) - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL
- Guillermo Vilas - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Bellows Portrait of Waldo Peirce.jpg
Thank you for uploading File:Bellows Portrait of Waldo Peirce.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 22:28, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
'Surplus' comma?
Olá, Efordo. What's your view about commas after names of states and countries following towns? I always like to see them as I think they're parenthetical (except in rare adjectival cases): "in Tucson, Arizona, in 2010", but I notice a lot of people don't use them and I've just had one such removed and accused of surplusness at John Lennon (what is it about those Beatles?). I remember seeing you put one in once somewhere, but is it merely a matter of taste, would you say? Rothorpe (talk) 22:38, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
- I can't track down a reference offhand, but I would say that it is NOT a matter of style but rather a matter of correct grammar. "The city of Tucson, Arizona, is larger than Bangor, Maine, or any other city in Maine." Seeing as the comma is correct, and not using it is wrong, it ought to be easy enough to track down a specific reference to this. Good luck with your typical WP goings on! They never seem to end! Hayford Peirce (talk) 23:18, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks! You'd think there would be something in the sacred MOS, wouldn't you? But if there is, I can't find it. Anyway, time to call his bluff... Rothorpe (talk) 23:36, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
- Try this: on page 44 of the NYT Manual of Style and Usage, in their section on Commas, we read: "Commas are used when constructions like this cannot be avoided: the Salem, Ore., public schools; a Columbus, Ohio, newspaper. But public schools of Salem, Ore., is preferred." That's a pretty clear indication of the use of commas, I would say. Hayford Peirce (talk) 16:38, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
- Indeed that's conclusive, many thanks. Rothorpe (talk) 17:53, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
