Woking

The Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar
thanks for fixing the Woking (borough) link on the template. SuzanneKn 18:50, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
Oh, that's sweet. Thank you. But now I've got to find an "I Accidentally Screwed You Barnstar" and award it to Frelke. :) HausTalk 18:55, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Dō itashimashite/You're welcome

Bonne chance! --Kyoko 12:49, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Maritime Trades

Wikipedia:WikiProject Maritime Trades will miss your robust wiki labor while you are "busy in real life." Have a safe trip.--Fishdecoy 22:25, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, but I'm still shore-bound for the time being. Just really busy/tired and shore-bound. :) Cheers. HausTalk 23:06, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
As before, nice work. I see a robot is making up work list for you. In that spirit - I have searched a couple of times, I don't think Wikipedia has an article Bridge Resource Management. There is a "Crew Resource Management", also an interesting "Swiss Cheese model" Regards, KAM 14:16, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

You are in a maze of twisty passages, all alike.

Hey homey, I saw you had this account and felt compelled to say hi. Best. Haus 02:29, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

Hey wow :) Long time no talk! How the heck are you doing? Whatcha been up to? --Thoric 03:38, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

Shortly after leaving your neck of the woods, I gave in to an urge to go to sea, spent 4 years in the Navy and now drive cargo ships for a living.

Wow... quite the switch from programming ;) What's that like?

So, now it's your turn: what's going on with you?'

Been working at BlueGenesis/Hostopia for the past seven years... not too much has changed really... just the level of stress keeps increasing ;)

I see RoD is still flourishing -- about 50% of the imms have been there over 10 years or so. That's really astonishing. I was sure I'd developed terminal brain cancer after watching the spam scroll by for only 5 years.

Heh ;) I don't know if I'd say flourishing... it's still chugging along, but the onset of MMORPGs has really taken its toll. I do still have hope that we can manage to make it to a 15 year reunion celebration (this is year 13) ;) --Thoric 17:08, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Your offer

Thanks again for the 'new buttons' idea Haus, but I think I'd better decline for now. They would be interesting/useful, but I'm still trying to keep a lid on the time I spend here. It's too easy for me to fritter away the hours, and I think new things to play with would just make it worse! Cheers. Chris --Bookandcoffee 19:25, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

Coast Guard article mergers

Hi there. I have proposed merging Federal Maritime Security Coordinator, Officer in Charge Marine Inspections, Federal On Scene Coordinator (USCG), and the U.S. section of Captain of the Port into Sector Commander. Just wanted to see if you have any thoughts on the topic. --Pesco 23:27, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Aloha! I don't have any strong feelings on the merge. It's possible, down the road, that having the roles separate could be useful. The benefit would be in linking to OCMI instead of Sector Commander#OCMI. I guess if you wanted the advantages of merging and of keeping separate articles per-role, you could make Sector Commander a summary-style article of the four three roles. But, that's just a notion... Cheers. HausTalk 23:50, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the input! I'm going to check out the different options you've mentioned. BTW, just want to say again how impressed I am with your continued contributions. --Pesco 00:58, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

New rules for ship handling

Haus, ya gotta check out this page: http://koti.mbnet.fi/~soldier/towboat.htm --Fishdecoy 13:30, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

That was a great laugh -- I love tugboat abuse. I'm sure you've seen what happens when the C/M gets angry with the forward tug? HausTalk 13:47, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Hello, Haus. An automated process has found and will an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that is in your userspace. All mainspace instances of this image will not be affected Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. Happy Chandler

Thanks for pointing out my boneheaded action of leaving in my own {{fact}} tags in an article I nominated for GA! I asked the user who added this information at the last minute to cite it, but have heard nothing in a week, so I removed the info and relisted the article for GA. If you wouldn't mind to "re-review" it, I'd appreciate it. Acdixon 13:54, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Passage Plan by Pencil?

Haus, I feel like I am ready to set for my 3rd mate's license after reading all your good copy on ship handling, safety at sea, and navigation!

Haus, does the navigator on merchant ships typically still lay out the legs of a trans-ocean passage on paper charts using pencil and parallel ruler? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Fishdecoy (talkcontribs) 08:11, 26 May 2007 UTC.

Aw, shucks, you're gonna make me blush. Seriously though -- right back at you -- I noticed you went under the hood on 2nd mate again -- that's so, so helpful.
The answer, of course, is yes and no. Naval ships will be on the pickier end of the spectrum, as far as dotting I's and crossing T's. Scarier ships will either spend time on Plotting sheets when they should be on charts, or, worse, just keep a list of waypoints. But the law in IMO signatory countries is to plan on best-scale charts (and computer-only plans don't (last time I looked) count). Make sense? Cheers. HausTalk 23:01, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Bulk carrier's FAC

Hi Haus !

I have added some answers on the FAC page, and added a link to the documents I used for the prices. Hopefully this will be useful to you !

Bulk carrier FAC

Hi., just a quick word. once you address my comments, dont strike them off. i believe it is my prerogative to strike them off when i agree/disagree. Thanks for the understanding. Nope, you dont need to remove them and they can stay as it stands. Kalyan 16:03, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

It's such a nice surprise to have an accidental slight actually perceived as accidental that I don't quite know what to do with myself. I notice that you are also a fan of curries, and offer you a curry-fanatic's blessing: "May your curries burn with the heat of 1,000 supernovae!" :) Cheers. HausTalk 16:48, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
No probs though my curry-meter never dips from "super-hot" (when i am at home). The only time the curry meter touches "medium" is when i am loading the pizza with a zillion chilli flakes on my trips to Boston. I hope you enjoy your curries too (as much as you enjoy making them!). Kalyan 19:30, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
