Environmental effects of basketballs

[edit]

Hi Harry3740. I'm sorry to see that your article was deleted. I'm sure this was a very unpleasant experience, and it really hasn't been very well explained to you what was going on. So I'll try.

The content of your article, which is still in your sandbox, was a good summary of the environmental effects of butyl rubber. The problem is that you took it one more step and turned it into an interesting topic - the environmental effects of basketballs. Unfortunately, Wikipedia doesn't do "interesting" - not unless someone has made the connections first. Going from butyl rubber to basketballs is easy and supportable. Going from butyl rubber to the environmental effects of butyl rubber is easy and supportable. But making the connection between the two, between basketballs and the environmental effect of butyl rubber, is something that wasn't supported by sources, which is why the article was deleted.

Moving forward, there are a few things you can do. One thing to do is to alert your instructor to what happened, and ask that they grade your sandbox, irrespective of whether it made it into Wikipedia or not. Another thing you can do is leave out the basketball part and work that information into the butyl rubber article. It would be very useful there, albeit a bit less interesting. Whatever you do, please don't re-create the deleted article. It will simply be deleted again, and if you keep at it, you might be blocked from editing. That would be a very unfortunate outcome, for everyone involved.

If you have any questions, please ask me. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 17:30, 8 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
