Hello Harej, thanks for the page Wikipedia:WikiProject Ghana/New. I tried to join but the "Next" button doesn't work. There might be a problem. —M@sssly✉ 14:32, 8 July 2015 (UTC)
- Hello Masssly, thank you for your report. I tested the form with different skins and with your JavaScript scripts enabled and it still seemed to work. How far in the process do you get before it stops working? Which browser do you use? Do you have any custom user scripts or extensions loaded in your browser that may be causing issues? Thank you, Harej (talk) 15:00, 8 July 2015 (UTC)

WMDC @ Wikimania
Hi James and @Keilana: Does WMDC have a subpage or other type of presence at Wikimania? I have heard that some chapters have their own Wikimania subpages with links to presentations by chapter members. If there's such a thing for WMDC, I'd like to add a link for the talk I'm presenting (with @Victuallers: skyped in) on Sunday morning, "Content gender gap: how to improve the coverage of women in Wikipedia".[1] Will WMDC have a meetup or something like that? Lots of questions as it's my first Wikimania. Thanks. --Rosiestep (talk) 18:02, 11 July 2015 (UTC)
- Hey @Rosiestep:! I'm really excited to see you at Wikimania!!! :D We don't have a subpage because there are so few of us, but we will try to have an informal meetup. We'll let you know when that's happening! Keilana|Parlez ici 00:04, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
Looking good
I have to say, it's been a while coming, but the new general WikiProject design that you've rolled out for the pilot tests is pretty solid, with a lot of nice design features for keeping members engaged with one-another. Fingers crossed that it all succeeds in revitalizing projects to better aggregate our efforts! Snow let's rap 22:36, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
- BTW, WP:WikiProject Dance might be another fruitful testbed for the new format. It gets sporadic involvement and has a small number of dedicated editors who have long discussed wanting to improve the overall coverage of dance topics on Wikipedia, but historically there has been a huge gap between needed work and number of available editors, and difficulty in organizing those few hands we have. Default gadget
I reverted you addition to MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition; Additions of gadgets is normally subject for review, but this is especially the case for default gadgets. Your edit basically ammounts to adding code to Common.css, and adding CSS for select pages is heavily discouraged, no matter where it is loaded from. Had you added it as an opt-in gadget under the testing section, then it would be a different matter, but please discuss site-wide additions beforehand. -- [[User:Edokter]] {{talk}}
20:55, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
- Edokter, I understand. I would appreciate your help in finding the appropriate places to discuss this. It's a very small addition of code and having it as a gadget means people can turn it off and not use it, as opposed to the Common.css approach. Where should I discuss this? Harej (talk) 14:08, 16 July 2015 (UTC)
- There is MediaWiki talk:Common.css (for site CSS), Wikipedia:Gadget/proposals (for gadget discussion), or Wikipedia:Village pump (technical) for a more generic discussion.
-- [[User:Edokter]] {{talk}}
15:34, 16 July 2015 (UTC)- Thanks Edokter, I started a discussion at Wikipedia:Gadget/proposals#Enable_wpxstyling_gadget_by_default. And per your advice I've re-added the gadget as opt-in under the testing section. Legoktm (talk) 15:40, 16 July 2015 (UTC)

Women in red
Hi Harej. I can't update the Press section on the project page. I've made a list on the talk page which should be moved over. I'm sure all our teething problems will soon be over. Thanks for helping to get things off the ground.--Ipigott (talk) 08:01, 20 July 2015 (UTC)
- Hello Ipigott, some of the page features broke when the project page was renamed, but I have now fixed that throughout the project. The edit links should work again. Thank you for pointing out this issue. Harej (talk) 12:10, 20 July 2015 (UTC)
- Sorry to alert you again but it has not been possible to edit Missing articles for the last 24 hours. There has also been a strong suggestion that there should been a section on New articles. I think these two matters are now top importance.--Ipigott (talk) 20:28, 20 July 2015 (UTC)

WikiProject Women
Hi, I see you recently joined Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red. I've made a proposal to merge this project into Wikipedia:WikiProject Women at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Women in Red, so we can not only cover missing articles but focus on general quality of women's biographies. If interested please put your name down on the WP:Women page at the bottom.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:05, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
WikiProject Women in Technology - Tech LadyMafia
Hi Harej, Apologies for the interruption. I was reading through the Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Technology page & noticed your comments beside the link to Tech LadyMafia. I would like to volunteer to make some improvements to the Article, and hopefully move it up from the current stub status. I am thinking that it would be good to have some information on the organisation's goals, methods, etc. And potentially an indication of the number of members. Would you have any sources that I should look at? I will, of course, do my own searching as well. - Ryk72 'c.s.n.s.' 00:58, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
- Hello Ryk72! Unfortunately I don't know of any good sources off the top of your head. Best of luck writing the article. Harej (talk) 18:27, 31 July 2015 (UTC)

Speaking of WikiProject Assessment
Did you know that this existed? I was unaware that there were assessment help scripts (been doing it manually for years, or with AWB). Sadads (talk) 13:25, 3 August 2015 (UTC)

Tracking edit-a-thon edits
I'm acting as the technical adviser to a local museum which is planning to hold an edit-a-thon and one of the organizers, who are both WP newcomers, had seen a reference that someone with your RW name had a way of tracking edits or articles created at a 'thon. Was that you and if so, what was it? Any help you can provide will be much appreciated. Best regards, TransporterMan (TALK) 21:49, 6 August 2015 (UTC)
- TransporterMan, I recommend creating a Google form to collect the usernames and then running the usernames through Herding Sheep. There is also a very powerful analytics tool called Wikimetrics though it is not all that user friendly. Harej (talk) 22:31, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
- Just a comment that I too am going to be working on an editathon at a local museum also! @TransporterMan: I think your museum and mine have a mutual interest in the artwork of C.M. Russell. We should talk. I can also access the C. M. Russell Museum Complex on a day trip... hmm. I smell a collaboration idea... Montanabw(talk) 00:08, 13 August 2015 (UTC)

Copyright violations module for wikiprojects
@Harej and Doc James:, as we discussed in Wikimania about wikiproject module for copyright violations, there is now infrastructure for getting the last suspected edits:
- using web API: http://tools.wmflabs.org/eranbot/plagiabot/api.py?action=suspected_diffs&project=wikipedia&lang=en&format=csv (format can be JSON or csv)
- using DB for tools running on WMF labs: s51306__copyright_p in enwiki.labsdb (databases with _p should be available with read rights for other tools). This is more powerful option, as you can join it with other relevant tables (categorylinks/templatelinks)
What do you think of creating a wikiproject module with top 5 or top 10 edits referring to this page? We can consider to try it in WikiMed project as "Eating your own dog food". Eran (talk) 19:05, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
- Sure. Lets add it to WP:MED. We would like the 10 number. Would be nice to allow different WP to set the number differently. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 06:00, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
- Eran and Doc James, I am not entirely sure what you are asking for. Your link does not work—what does this API do? If it gives me a list of pages suspected to have copyright infringement, I could pair that with my own table pairing articles and WikiProjects. If you would like this service for WikiProject Medicine, I can work on it, though keep in mind I have a bunch of other things to work on at the moment. In any case, I am now tracking it as a feature request in Phabricator if you would like to follow along there. Harej (talk) 15:47, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
Hi!
Hi! As the project founder of Wikipedia:WikiProject Socialism, is there any change that Wikipedia:WikiProject X will come around and "save" it? .. A tip (even if you've probably discovered this out yourself), you should get bots to update the WP project pages (individual users won't...) .. Keep up the great work. --TIAYN (talk) 09:40, 16 August 2015 (UTC)
- Hello TIAYN! Sure, I can consider WikiProject Socialism for the next round of pilot tests. (And yes, much of my work has been focused on automated maintenance.) Harej (talk) 17:49, 17 August 2015 (UTC)

- Hello, Redrose64. Thank you for your report. The bot uses a pywikibot library for adding/removing categories. Disappointing to see that it messes up the formatting like that on certain pages. I will have to investigate. Harej (talk) 23:34, 17 August 2015 (UTC)

- Hi @Harej:. I really think you need to give us some feedback on the progress you are making on the automated approach to red links from other language wikis in connection with this project. I think your approach has great potential but it is likely to be swamped by merging with WP:Women unless you can provide a status report. How much longer will it take to provide usable results?--Ipigott (talk) 18:01, 16 August 2015 (UTC)
- Hello Ipigott! Here is the report for Wikipedia:WikiProject Women scientists. Women in Red is next! Harej (talk) 05:43, 18 August 2015 (UTC)
- @Harej: Thanks. This certainly seems to indicate substantial progress. As far as I can see, you have automated the listing of articles about women scientists from the Czech Republic. Do you intend to initiate a country-by-country development for Women in Red too? It sounds to be like an interesting approach.--Ipigott (talk) 06:21, 18 August 2015 (UTC)
- Ipigott, the Czech Republic wasn't targeted specifically; I had the report cut off after the first 100 entries and they happened to be predominantly Czech figures. (Wikidata entries are often created in batches, it seems.) I may want to randomize it so that we have some others represented as well. One idea I had (I will bring it up with the rest of the project) is to have individual lists for different specific WikiProjects (Women Scientists, Women Writers, etc.), and then have them all aggregated together through the Women in Red project. Would that be a useful approach? Harej (talk) 16:54, 18 August 2015 (UTC)
- While I think they should all be included in the Women in Red project, I think there is something to be said for keeping the lists separate, unless you can use the Wikidata descriptions to identify the main field(s) of involvement of each individual. But you should ask for feedback from the project as a whole. In any case, I think we need to trial the system over a reasonable period to find the best way of presenting the results.--Ipigott (talk) 07:32, 19 August 2015 (UTC)
- James, I like that. Aggregating them would be ideal. Lots of fun stuff to figure out I'm jazzed at the possibilities! --Rosiestep (talk) 14:30, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

- Hello Ipigott! Here is the report for Wikipedia:WikiProject Women scientists. Women in Red is next! Harej (talk) 05:43, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

- Improved performance of the mw.wikibase.sitelink Lua method
- More work done on Unit Selector widget
- Started working on the ArticlePlaceholder extension
- Made final changes so we can redirect mobile users to the mobile version by default
