Course issues

[edit]

For the course Historic Site Interpretation (Spring 2022), you might possibly be asking students to make non-notable biographies. One article in the available articles section on the dashboard pulled up no relevant or reliable sources to draw from on Google when I searched the persons' name. The article Lynching of George Scott, which has only 3 sources, may not be notable either but I really haven't looked. wizzito | say hello! 22:54, 17 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Thank you so much for your comment. We are working with WikiEdu and will be sure to talk with them about the issue of notability. HISTAM (talk) 19:54, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Lynching of George Scott

[edit]

Hi, I noticed you recently moved this article to the title George Scott (victim of racial terror lynching) in order to solve a category sorting issue. Unfortunately such a page move does not solve the problem because the article still appears under its title, not sorted by surname. Consequently, I have undone your move because the solution is inappropriate. The way to solve this problem is to insert the DEFAULTSORT magic word into the article by using the template {{DEFAULTSORT:LastName, FirstName, (disambiguation)}} at the end of the article and add a listas= parameter to one of the WikiProject banners on the talk page. In this case I believe the sort key should be Scott, George, Lynching of. Please also be aware that Wikipedia article titles about violence and death have specific naming conventions, so moving the title to a different name has implications for what the article is being written about. For an article about a victim of a crime the article is usually written primarily about the crime, rather than being a biography about the victim. Such articles have a title format of <crime> of <victim>. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 01:51, 9 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for attempting to solve the problem and bring it to my attention by attempting to solve the problem by moving the page; even though your solution attempt might have been sub-optimal, the issue was solved in the end. If you check the Category:Lynching deaths in Indiana you will see that this article now appears correctly sorted under "S" for "Scott" and not under "L" or "G". - Cameron Dewe (talk) 02:30, 9 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Lynching of George Ward added to "most-viewed" list

[edit]

"Non-lead hooks" means that it wasn't first in the DYK list ... but it received over 15,000 visits anyway: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Did_you_know/Statistics#Non-lead_hooks_with_at_least_15,000_views -- Jaireeodell (talk) 17:16, 28 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@HISTAM Is there a reason that this one has not been moved to mainspace? I made some small edits, but I'm not sure if that re-starts the clock or not. -- Jaireeodell (talk) 20:37, 30 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
