Would you be so kind as to go to the discussion about the Islamic Wikiproject Award? This has been a proposal that has lingered for donkey's yonks. I think the image is acceptable as a WP:PUA, but don't think the image is in line with most of the images at Wikipedia:Wikiproject awards. The design is not well supported, and right before I was going to archive the debate for lack of support, someone else moved it to the Wikiproject awards page.

The current discussion is going on here: Wikipedia:Barnstar_and_award_proposals/New_Proposals#Another_image. Your input is appreciated. --evrik 03:16, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalizing a page?

[edit]

Dear Gurubrahma,

I was trying to add more information about the 2005 Brass Rat as I am an owner of that said rat, am a member of that class, attended the ring premiere, so know/remember all the details that are contained in our class ring. I'm confused as to why you wrote back saying that's vandalizing the page. Am I missing something here? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.43.122.130 (talkcontribs) (originally unsigned but later the anon registered) --Hgmaryc 07:29, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

All of my additions are backed up by the brochure, which is found on the 2005 Ringcomm site. The ringcomm site was already linked to the 2005 ring picture in the chart detailing each individual class ring. Because I was contributing to that portion which was specific to the 2005 ring, I don't understand you when you say that the site is about the Brass Rat in general. I don't understand your reasoning behind your response. Yes, I understand you must err on the side of caution. But I don't understand why you objected to the addition of information about the specific class ring in the space given for that topic.

Here is the brochure itself, backing up everything I wrote, including the bit about "ZZZ." And a close up picture of the bezel clearly shows this item. http://web.mit.edu/2005ringcomm/brochure.pdf --Hgmaryc 07:47, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AIV

[edit]

The reason I reported it when I did, is that an IP very similar to 207.63.191.182 vandalized the Ruby page after a final warning. When I did an IP trace, 207.63.191.182, 207.63.189.254 and 207.63.189.210 all were registered to the same address in Illinois. I figured he was continuing to vandalize pages from different computers at that address. Ramsquire 15:34, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am not sure whether you can read my talk page. I am new. Copy Pasting my talk. Are you aware of Swadhyay page controversy?

[edit]

Swadhyayee 03:07, 31 August 2006 (UTC)User talk:Swadhyayee From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search 29/08/2006.[reply]

The Readers & Editors pl. bear with me. I am using editing for the first time and am likely to miss the correct page.

I want to add to : Swadhyay or Pandurang Shashtri Athavale.

I was associated with Swadhyay or Pandurang Shashtri Athavale in the activities appearing on www.swadhyay.org. www.swadhyay.org is created by The Office of Swadhyay and/or Pandurang Shashtri Athavale.

There are controversial claims about Swadhyay or Pandurang Shashtri Athavale and there is a clash between editors whether to add a particular matter or not.

If a thing can be defined with the help of physics or chemistry, it can be decided whether a particular thing can be added or removed. So can not be done for a human being or social or religious activities.

From the time June, 2000, there is deviation from what is claimed on www.swadhyay.org. Even prior to June,2000, the image of Pandurang Shashtri Athavale or Swadhyay was always glorified or exaggerated.

I am not out to defame Pandurang Shashtri Athavale or lower the image of Swadhyay. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and changing facts have to be incorporated in it.

Late Mr.Pandurang Shashtri Athavale is popularly known as Dada. Dada means elder brother in Marathi - An Indian Language spoken in State of Maharashtra. Here-in-after, I shall refer Pandurang Shashtri Athavale as Dada. Dada gave discourses upon message of Srimad Bhagwad Geeta - A scripture of Hindus. He motivated people to use one's god gifted abilities to speak, move, think, hear for selfless work which he called Kruti-Bhakti. Based on this principle/logic his followers known as Swadhyayees moved from house to house and went to Indian villages at one's own cost and spreaded the message of Srimad Bhagwad Geeta and nurtured these activities. The number of followers went on increasing and at present it could be in millions but that does not necessarily mean that the followers observe dictates of Srimad Bhagwad Geeta henceforth shall be referred to as Geeta.

Dada also motivated Swadhyayees to involve in money producing experiments for spread of renovation of Vedic culture. Experiments known as "Yogeshwar Krushi", "Shree Darshan", "Vruksh-Mandir", "Amrutalayams", "Matsya-Gandha" and so on. The financial returns along with donations received were collected in nearly 100 trusts created for Swadhyay activities. The trustees were dedicated Swadhyayees and Dada was not a trustee. Dada used to say that The President of Swadhyay activities was God (Lord Yogeshwar).

Around June, 2000, Dada told trustees that The Swadhyay activities were his ownership and he was handing over reign of These activities to her adopted daughter Smt.Jayshree a.k.a. Dhanshree Srinivas Talwakar popularly known as Dada. Simultaneously, all the neutral trustees from all trusts were removed and replaced by Didi and her husband Srinivas Talwalkar a.k.a. Rao Saheb. Dada used to take blank resignation letters from the trustees in advance.

This was not well received by old dedicated Swadhyayees who had helped in foundation and nurture of these activities from day 1.

This was protested by old Swadhyayees and it resulted in violent attacks on old Swadhyayees by comperatively new Swadhyayees. The first attempt had taken place on 28th January, 2001 on Mahesh Shah an industrialist.

After an year, In June, 2001, The Hon. Ex-Chief Justice of High Court at Ahmedabad and Andhra Pradesh declared to media that Didi was using money and muscle power against old Swadhyayees, therefore he was submitting his resignation to Dada. He told the media that The funds of the trust in securities were valued at Indian Rupees Two Hundred Crores and property valued at Indian Rupees Five Hundred Crores. All the facts here-in are documented in Indian Newspapers. This fact had appeared first in "Gujarat Samachar" and later in all Gujarati newspapers.

Subsequently, number of old Swadhyayees became victims of violence and faced false criminal cases. The criminal cases were over 100 filed in rural Gujarat & Maharashtra ( Indian States) against various old Swadhyayees and/or ex-trustees. In 22 identical cases, an appeal was preferred by one Pankaj Trivedi and others in High Court at Ahmedabad. The High Court ruled in the matter in favour of Pankaj Trivedi and quashed all criminal cases at one go. The High Court further observed and recorded that the language of all 22 cases were word by word same and cases had been filed by different persons miles away from each other. The Court hence stated that the cases were filed in retalliation of bonafide civil case filed by Pankaj Trivedi for opening of a temple which was closed down by Didi to harass Pankaj Trivedi. The temple at Bhav-Nirjar, Ahmedabad had come in existence with the help of Pankaj Trivedi. The Judgement is documentary evidence and can be varified from The High Court at Ahmedabad.

Those who were assaulted and their bones broken are Vinod Shah, Shankar Thakkar of Mumbai, Vinoo Sanchania of London while he was in Jamnagar, Gujarat, India. One Satish Rughani of Rajkot was assaulted in his house. He just came out after bath and his towel was thrown and he was naked. His wife was locked up in other room. Satish Rughani had accompanied Dada for receiving Megsasay Award.

Some of the old Swadhyayees were arrested like core criminals by police from other states and brutally beaten on the way to the state of police and in lock-up too against the legal provisions not to use 3rd degree for confession.

On court dates or while the arrested were presented before The Magistrate, thousands of Swadhyayees from villages were summoned to the court who tried to kill some of the arrested old Swadhyayees. Usually, police had to resort to cane charging to disperse the mob and protect the arresteds lives.

All these facts are documented by newspapers. Cases were filed against number of newspapers by Swadhyayees for reporting such un-becoming attitude of Swadhyayees against old Swadhyayees. The Press Council of India decided in favour of newspapers. In English, a magazine "India Today" had published an article highlighting wrongs of Swadhyay.

Pankaj Trivedi was killed on 15th June, 2006 outside Ellisbridge Gymkhana, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. The police arrested eight to ten senior Swadhyayees. One of them was Ghanshyam Chudasama, P.A. to Dy. Comm. of Police under whose jurisdiction Pankaj Trivedi was killed. Ghanshyam Chudasama was working with some other office and using some influence, he had got himself transferred to Dy. Comm. of Police. As confessed by him, the plot to kill Pankaj Trivedi took place in The High Court premises when the order in favour of Pankaj Trivedi was passed.

Pankaj Trivedi was a green card holder and shuttling between U.S.A. and India. He went to U.S.A. just about 3 months before his life was taken away. He was harassed at U.S. air-port. When he came out of air-port, 4 white-skin people in uniform accosted him and warned of not to speak a word about Swadhyay wrongs while he was to stay in U.S.A.

Next day, Home Security Agency raided Pankaj Trivedi's house in U.S. A. as some one has printed some writing in Urdu with his photo along with photo of Bin Laden and this writing was passed to U.S.A. police stating that Pankaj Trivedi was a Bin Laden associate and threat to President Bush. Home Security Agencied investigated this matter and found Pankaj Trivedi was innocent. These facts can be varified from Home Security Agency, U.S.A.

Why do you assume that Swadhyay and Swadhyay Parivar are one thing. What I mentioned was not my opinion, it's the disclosing of facts. Since the matter is not in front of me now, I can't say what could you have thought being my opinion. Could you copy-paste my text so I can recheck it. Swadhyay Pariwar is trying to monopolise the activities dictated in Hindu religious scripture Srimad Bhagwad Geeta. Search Google and you will come across Jain Swadhyay Centres. Since you say, even if my actions were wrong, redirecting Swadhyay to Swadhyay Pariwar is also not a right thing. If you are conscious about wikipedia to remain an encyclopedia, you should not encourage such monopolisation of some dictate of Geeta.

Hope you will re-consider this.

Hello Guru. I would like your opinion regarding INCOTW. Ganesh, a few days before going on his break, introduced this new rule to INCOTW about allowing only stubs. Both Dwaipayanc and I feel that the rule is too strict and do not allow better articles to be improved through the process. What would you suggest I do in this case? Should I bring back the old rules? - Aksi_great (talk - review me) 18:13, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. I too get that feeling sometimes. We are generating a lot of FAs, but not paying much attention to other areas where it would be ok not to have FAs and focus on a lot of good articles (like religions of india, languages of india, geographical locations) . The only Indian project really successful at the moment is Project:Indian cities, and that too is driven by a desire to see home cities as FA. - Aksi_great (talk - review me) 13:48, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, articles covered under "Life in India" template needs much improvement. However, those are really difficult to work on as those are very general topic. I have a plan, how about putting each "Life in India" topic in INCOTW (even if those have appeared there before)?--Dwaipayan (talk) 14:13, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Religious Taunts

[edit]

Gurubrahma, User:Vgowda has been harrasing me for quite some time. However, he crossed the limit this time, when he passed an extremely derogatory and hurtful remark on my religion. He commemted that I am not a Hindu. As a devout practising Hindu, I am deeply hurt. You can find the comment on my talk page here. For your convenience, I reproduce his comment -

" I doubt that ur not a Hindu at all, probably a khatli trying to creat trouble as usual. Bole to remain civil, bolna dun nahi hi khatlion se panga le ne ke liye. Arre computer ID ko dekhna, I am not Dinesh he is in the USA. vgowda "

I request you to block this user as soon as you can. I can tolerate anything but derogatory remarks concerning one's religion does not go well with me. I hope you can understand how deeply hurt and insulted I am. I hope you take the decision as soon as possible. Regards, Arya Rajya Maharashtra 12:57, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gurubrahma, This editor seems to be rather prolific at deleting. Is there a method to undo his changes en masse? I reverted a few, but there must be a better way than one at a time. Actually, some most of his edits appear to be valid. (I don't read Kannada, so I can't tell). I guess each edit will need to be looked at individually. If you have no ideas how to handle this, I will go through his edits later in the day. Thanks. --BostonMA 12:18, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, I looked through his 30 some edits today, and most appear to be valid, only a few deletions of non-Kannada names (i.e. Tamil and Telugu). I guess I will just watch how things develop. Sorry to bother you. --BostonMA 12:55, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

would be a better format. Can you tell me how to add this link as a link in the article, and a note below it?

I also want to know, do I have to do anything else to retrieve the linked webpages?

Mahawiki

[edit]

Hi dear Admin,

This is to bring to your notice the wiki-feud I've been having with User:Mahawiki for almost one month now. It started with the Belgaum page which went to mediation, warnings were handed out to both parties, and when Mahawiki's incivil ways continued, Admin:Bluyugen handed him a warning and then a block. Find that here.

I do not want to turn the clock back and go through all those content disputes again. Infact, I dont want to present to you the details of any content dispute we've had. All I want to present to you is the brazen incivility and personal attacks being committed by User:Mahawiki either in the course of his content disputes or even simply just out of spite.

All the diffs(exhibiting his incivility and personal attacks) I provide below are from AFTER, I REPEAT, "AFTER". ADMIN BLUGYUEN INTERVENED, WARNED ALL OF US, BLOCKED MAHAWIKI AND SAID [THIS].

Please find below dozens of instances of blatant incivility and personal attacks by User:Mahawiki either on me or on User:Dineshkannambadi and all Kannadigas in general. His remarks are in extremely bad taste and counterproductive resulting in undermining of the good faith efforts of the other editors to carry on editing their articles.

While I dont want to go into each and every diff and explain it, just to give you a sample of his incivility, he has made edits where, even if only in jest or sarcasm, he makes atrocious claims like, I am on a kill Mahawiki mission, that User:Dineshkannambadi is the Kannada (Bin) Laden(sic). In another edit, even if only for jest(which I certainly dont find amusing nor appreciate esp., when it comes from him), he has threatened to sue me. He has called us cultural TERRORISTS, losers, notorious, shameless etc., etc. He uses the word vandalism like one would use 'Hi' and 'Hello'.

Find all the above and much much much more in the diffs I've provided below. Whats worse is his antics are going unchecked because Admin:Blugyen who knows about our feud is on a wikibreak and Admin:Sundar whose intervention I've sought more than once, is busy with other things(I presume, in real life) - which ofcourse, I dont hold against either of them.

But wikipedia will be a poorer place if brazen incivility like this goes unchecked for weeks simply because many admins dont know about it or the ones who know are by force of circumstances, too busy to deal with it.

I request immediate and harsh action on Mahawiki.

Once again, let me remind everyone that in the links below, none of them pertain to any content disputes. I belive in dealing with the content disputes on the relevant talk pages and dont usually bring it out on user talk pages.

Infact, I have even not listed below, the atrocious claim he made a couple of days ago that I had deleted and later undeleted an article. Also not listed below is his blatant removal of {{fact}} tags I had added in a couple of articles without even clarifying or providing a citation for the claim which I had tagged. Also not listed below may be umpteen other instances of incivility and npa violations on his part that I might have missed.

All the diffs below deal purely and only with his brazen incivil comments and personal attacks not just on me, but on User:Dineshkannambadi and also highly respected historians like Mr. Suryanath Kamath et al(who have been cited in some articles by Dinesh) whom he has trashed and dismissed in the most uncivil manner possible.

Apart from this he also makes disparaging remarks on Karnataka and Karnataka politicians who he keeps claiming are oppressing and torturing Marathi speaking people in Belgaum. This is not a content dispute, this is plain nonsense and insanely belligerent language.

His incivility apart, he has made it a habit and a routine to go around all over wikipedia branding me and Dinesh as 'Kannadi' vandals bent on Kannadizing all articles we touch. Ask him if we have included any uncited material or if we has ever cited any references for his numerous claims or whether he has taken it up on the article talk page instead of on a random user talk page. His answer will be negative. And yet, that doesnt stop him from going around shouting that we have been vandalising articles!!

Anway, I dont want to veer this towards the 'content disputes' which is a whole different matter altogether. Content disputes can always be discussed and agreements reached. Let me present to you just his brazen incivility and personal attacks.

Please Gurujee

[edit]

Hello Gurujee Please help, I mean please write the report as you took the notes. I reached Chennai early in the morning, and then took a nap, and went to Office. I just came back from the Office. My experience of inter-acting with you all was "wonderful", meeting and talking to real persons. --Bhadani 14:45, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh. Your reqeust at the Banglaore meet. I just lost the link relating to data about the 0.5% edits to Englsih Wikipedia from India. I am sure to get it sometime. Till sometimes, you are liberty to curse me. --Bhadani 15:33, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah Guruji, please prepare the report like the reports of other wiki meetups, as listed in Category:Wikipedia meetups. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 18:09, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes my dear Gurubrahmajee, it was nice. However, I had to come back in a hurry, and so we shall again meet to talk a lot. --Bhadani 12:53, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Attention required

[edit]

The page Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar requires some attention. It seems that Agniva has copied from a website. Please check and do the needful. He is new to Wikipedia and has worked only on this page. -- P.K.Niyogi 11:58, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Advice request

[edit]

Hi Gurubrahma, I know you wish to be on semi-retirement, so please feel free to decline my request. I have always respected your opinion, and would very much appreciate your advice at this time. There has been an edit conflict on the Muhammad page, between three users (one of whom is myself) who have been removing a certain image, and two other users who have been adding that same image. I have been discussing with the two opposite users, and I have been doing my best to explain my points clearly and to understand their points. Unfortunately, communication seems to have broken down. If you could look briefly at User talk:Briangotts#Muhammad Pic and give me any feedback I would very much appreciate it. (The Hun that is referred to in the first paragraph by Briangoots is User talk:The Hungry Hun#Mohammed Pic Conflict.) I am most interested in anything that I may be doing wrong, and you have always given me what I consider to be sound advice. Not just things I may be doing wrong from a Wiki point of view, but especially in my relations with the other editors involved. I apologize for taking your time. --BostonMA talk 03:12, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I know a number of editors have this talk page on their watch list. If you are so inclined, I would value your feedback as well. Sincerely, --BostonMA talk 03:40, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your feedback. When someone with whom I am conversing gets angry or says it is difficult for them to assume good faith, it is always an occassion for me to look at myself and wonder if I have not done something incorrectly. Although it is pleasant to hear that your evaluation agrees with the one that I had made, I would have been appreciative even if you had told me that I was misunderstanding something, or otherwise at fault. We can all benefit from the insight of others.
I have not heard back from either of these editors this weekend, so for now I will wait. Thank you again for spending the time to read through this material. If you should find yourself on wikibreak in the near future, I will wish you now a happy Diwali. Sincerely, --BostonMA talk 12:39, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gurubrahma,

I see looking at the WikiProject user warnings page, that you are a participant in this project. I have recently started an undertaking to harmonise all user page warnings and templates. For this I would like your assistance. I have listed a number of ideas on the project template page here as a first draft. I fully appreciate that as with most editors and admins, that you are fairly busy. Therefore I am not looking for anyone to carry out the actual work, I am willing to do that myself, with help from a number of other RC Patrollers who have come forward. But what I am looking for is your invaluable input, on the draft ideas and also to suggest other ways you believe we may improve the templates. I do however require the services of a couple of administrators to put into effect some of the new templates, as they are currently protected. Please take 5 mins to look through the new templates page, and both the project and templates talk pages and leave any ideas or suggestions that you may have. Best regards Khukri (talk . contribs) 09:51, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

thanks!

[edit]

When I started my second editor review, I had no idea how greatly helpful it would be to me. Here are people from across the world who I've never met or laid eyes upon, taking their personal time to think about me and offer me valuable criticism and advice. And the stuff I've learnt is more helpful in real life than just on Wikipedia. This is an experiment I will never forget. I thank you most sincerely for your kindness, for helping me be a better person. I am very much in your debt. Rama's arrow 15:43, 25 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
