You protected Vani_Hari by full protection, not semi protection. I see that the IP has been disruptive but I don't feel it warrants excluding everyone except administrators from the article. Tutelary (talk) 21:05, 30 August 2014 (UTC)

The 'attacks' have all been via IPs, and would've been remedied with just semi protection. Additionally, this violates the third pillar, in which the encyclopedia is free for anyone to edit and contribute. I've never seen an article fully protected for this long because of an IP vandal attack. Tutelary (talk) 22:21, 30 August 2014 (UTC)

Aw, I kinda liked it, saved a lot of misyognist attacks on that article. I guess semi will do, but, unfortunately we have editors enabling banned editors, claiming LTA blocks are not bans or, apparently, even legit. Dreadstar ☥ 23:11, 30 August 2014 (UTC)

@Dreadstar and Tutelary: While I don't doubt that User:DavidPatrick70, who is most likely a reappearance of a past sockmaster, is de facto banned because no admin will unblock him (this exists in policy but I just don't have the link), he is not de jure banned. Arbcom only stated: Our recommendation is therefore that this user not be unblocked in the future unless this additional evidence is considered. --Guerillero | My Talk 23:51, 30 August 2014 (UTC)

I know exactly what policy you're talking about and that's all I really wanted. A link or mention of where it happened, and now I got it. All I wanted was some evidence, and I got it. He cited a specific user and mentioned ArbCom (I'm sure I can find the case later but a link would be appreciated now) and for now, while I wait on searching for it, I'll trust Guerillero's judgement on this. Tutelary (talk) 23:59, 30 August 2014 (UTC)

It may have been a bit obscure, but you didn't ask and I don't think you're owed an explanation if you don't ask; thus the link to WP:ADMIN - you may not trust me, but I'm not an admin for almost a decade without such things. You knew the abusive IP editor was blocked, but you enabled them anyway - that tells me a great deal about you, unfortunately. Dreadstar ☥ 00:14, 31 August 2014 (UTC)

Maybe you could also feel such about Jimbo, who actually conversed with a known banned editor on his talk page. (multiple times I believe) But oh wait, he's the owner of Wikipedia, so he can do that. LOL, I've privately conversed with Jimbo on many occasions over the years and you have not the faintest clue as to my feelings on said subject. And Jimbo doesn't rule WP, consensus does. Nothing about the IP's comment on your talk page was 'good faith', it's incredible that you'd claim such a thing. Good faith my ass. It's funny, I live in a different city, I have nothing to do with the person Dreadstar keeps claiming I am, but he just keeps repeating the lie. Wikimedia DC invites revolutionaries, free thinkers, and other sundry editors to a DC WikiSalon

The WikiSalon is a special meetup usually held during the first and third full weeks of every month, from 7 PM to 9 PM. It's an informal gathering of Wikimedia enthusiasts, who come together to discuss Wikimedia wikis and collaboratively edit. There's no set agenda, and guests are welcome to recommend articles for the group to edit or edit on their own.

If you're coming by Metro, the closest station is Dupont Circle (on the Red Line). If you're driving, a lot of parking opens up downtown after 6:30 PM, so finding a parking space (even a free one) should be easy. Once you've found the building, go to Cove on the second floor. We will be in the conference room.

When: Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

I have read your recall criteria. It is overly bureaucratic and not fair. However, it's good that you have one.

One problem is that you pick your own jury. That is not fair.

Some admins are nice and some are terrors. Some will block immediately while others warn and a few try to mediate.

Consider being a noble person and establish criteria to follow. For example, establishing that incivility will result in your resignation or at least resulting in 90 days of giving up your tools. Going against a rule or guidelines would bring a sanction.

If you did that, you would vault from the usual to the exceptional admin.

I was bullied before and this has caused me to sour on wikipedia. Not enough to quit but it threw a cold bucket of water on my enthusiasm.

As far as that vami mati article or similar name, I am not so sure that it even merits an article. If it does, it would be far from what it is now by being a simple bio with education, background, and a brief mention that she gets into conflict with food. @Stephanie Bowman: My recall criteria is one of the most straight forward criterias that I have seen. You have two choices. You can either start an RfC on my talk page or get a super majority of a stated slate of people to ask me to step down. The slate of people is an even mixture between respected community members and long time critics of admins. (3 critics + 1 crat + 2 arbs + 2 admins that do technical work) The RfC only needs 6 net votes against me. (51% - 65% depending on the turnout.) Like it or not, many admins have set the bar for the removal of their mop at the same level as an RfA (70%). No, I am not going to change my criteria because I don't think your proposal has any validity in non-theoretical situations. --Guerillero | My Talk 19:06, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

WikiCup 2014 September newsletter

In one month's time, we will know our WikiCup 2014 champion. Newcomer Godot13 (submissions) has taken a strong lead with a featured list (historical coats of arms of the U.S. states from 1876) and a raft of featured pictures. Reigning champion Cwmhiraeth (submissions) is in second place with a number of high-importance biology articles, including new FA Isopoda and new GA least weasel. Casliber (submissions), who is in his fifth WikiCup final, is in third, with featured articles Pictor and Epacris impressa.

Signups for the 2015 WikiCup are open. All Wikipedians, new and experienced, are warmly invited to sign up for the competition. Wikipedians interested in friendly competition may also like to sign up for the GA Cup, a new WikiCup-inspired competition which revolves around completing good article reviews.
