Important Notice: Your 2013 Arbitration Committee Election vote

Greetings. Because you have already cast a vote for the 2013 Arbitration Committee Elections, I regret to inform you that due to a misconfiguration of the SecurePoll we've been forced to strike all votes and reset voting. This notice is to inform you that you will need to vote again if you want to be counted in the poll. The new poll is located at this link. You do not have to perform any additional actions other than voting again. If you have any questions, please direct them at the election commissioners. --For the Election Commissioners, v/r, TParis

why?

Hi Guerillero. You state here "I highly doubt that the whitelist people will add this". Why do you think that the 'whitelist people' are so uncooperative? --Dirk Beetstra T C 06:12, 11 December 2013 (UTC)

@Beetstra: Because, if I was a reviewing admin, I wouldn't give the GNAA any opportunity to spam their site across the 'pedia. We are talking about a trolling group who is known for abusing our project not someone who is trying to make a quick buck, like most of the people on the spam blacklist. I'm sorry if it sounded like I was taking a dig at you, anomie, and the rest of the admins who know RegEx and choose to work on the mediawiki pages. I couldn't do a fraction of what you guys. --Guerillero | My Talk 06:24, 11 December 2013 (UTC)
Just some thoughts here:
  • You're not stopping this anyway if they are so insistent
  • Whitelisting does give possibilities - see the MediaWiki_talk:Spam-whitelist/Common_requests - what about whitelisting the 'about' page?
  • We still have XLinkBot - which we could use as an additional measure (e.g. in hard-override / 1-strike-and-you-are-out way)
  • Edit filter?
I do however agree, (paid) advocacy is a problem better attacked from the root. If a site is so insistent in spamming, maybe it is time that WikiMedia starts making a statement (a statement with balls, not just a 'hey, stop it!'). --Dirk Beetstra T C 06:29, 11 December 2013 (UTC)
Actually, here I would go for the step-further solution - just unlink it completely. Why would we link to this site? Let us WP:IAR on WP:ELOFFICIAL here. --Dirk Beetstra T C 06:33, 11 December 2013 (UTC)
I've done that, also per this. --Dirk Beetstra T C 06:35, 11 December 2013 (UTC)
@Beetstra:(I have been finishing finals/traveling/returning home this week) The unlinking works for me as a way of dealing with this issue. --Guerillero | My Talk 06:28, 14 December 2013 (UTC)

ArbCom

Just wanted to say... so close! I'll hope to see you on the list again next year. :) --Michaelzeng7 (talk) 02:59, 17 December 2013 (UTC)

It will not be happening. I will be half way through my thesis and will be still in the same predicament that I stood in this election; I will still have a significant time commitment on my plate. Maybe, once I have graduated from college, I will run again. --Guerillero | My Talk 07:00, 17 December 2013 (UTC)

Welcome to the 2014 WikiCup!

Hello Guerillero, and welcome to the 2014 WikiCup! Your submission page can be found here. The competition will begin at midnight tonight (UTC). There have been a few small changes from last year; the rules can be read in full at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring, and the page also includes a summary of changes. One important rule to remember is that only content on which you have completed significant work, and nominated, in 2014 is eligible for points in the competition- the judges will be checking! As ever, this year's competition includes some younger editors. If you are a younger editor, you are certainly welcome, but we have written an advice page at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Advice for younger editors for you. Please do take a look. Any questions should be directed to one of the judges, or left on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup. Signups will close at the end of January, and the first round will end on 26 February; the 64 highest scorers at that time will make it to round 2. Good luck!
