Statement of Intent

I think the big strength of wikipedia is the fact that anyone can edit it, and I think it's very important that this is possible to do without an account. Because with an account comes 'status' and people judging each other on that and edits being judged on previous edits and the user's talk page. It forces you into this horrible social scoring system that is not officially there but informally exists, instead of each edit being judged on its own merits. I have seen so many good changes being reverted just because they were done by an IP address. I have seen so many well-intended changes being reverted without giving a reason. That's not how you involve new people in this project. It's disheartening. That's why I always kept editing without an account (for over 10 years) to keep showing that good edits can be made by anonymous people too and to call out the people that revert those edits without reason. So I really hate being forced to make an account, just because I use a VPN (especially given the importance of using a VPN for privacy, and even more so in undemocratic countries!), and I postponed it for a long time, choosing not to fix the mistakes I saw instead when another 'your IP address is blocked' message popped up, but in the end I guess it's more important to contribute at least something than to protest in silence.
