Autobiography is not a good idea
[edit]Please refrain from writing autobiographical articles. Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged; if you create such an article, it may be deleted. All edits to articles must conform to our policies on no original research, neutral point of view, and avoid conflicts of interest. Please remember that Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia, not a personal webspace provider. If your achievements are verifiable and genuinely notable, and thus suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later. (See Wikipedians with articles.) Thank you. --Orange Mike | Talk 13:36, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
File permission problem with File:The Accidental Caregiver.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:The Accidental Caregiver.jpg, which you've sourced to Self. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Mlpearc (powwow) 02:10, 18 October 2012 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image File:GoodbyePromise.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:GoodbyePromise.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 23:47, 16 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:22, 29 July 2018 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of User:Gregorcollins
[edit]A tag has been placed on User:Gregorcollins requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, and/or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free web hosting service. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Copyright problem: Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer
[edit]Hello Gregorcollins! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted material from other websites or printed works. This article appears to contain work copied from https://www.lexikon-provenienzforschung.org/en/bloch-bauer-ferdinand, and therefore to constitute a violation of Wikipedia's copyright policies. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted. While we appreciate your contributions, copying content from other websites is unlawful and against Wikipedia's copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators are likely to lose their editing privileges.
If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under license allowed by Wikipedia, then you should do one of the following:
- Have the author release the text under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 License (CC BY-SA 4.0) by leaving a message explaining the details at Talk:Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer and send an email with confirmation of permission to "permissions-enwikimedia.org". Make sure they quote the exact page name, Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer, in their email. See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
- If you hold the copyright to the work: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-enwikimedia.org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 License and GNU Free Documentation License, and note that you have done so on Talk:Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for instructions.
- If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted "under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License (CC BY-SA), version 4.0", or that the work is released into the public domain, or if you have strong reason to believe it is, leave a note at Talk:Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer with a link to where we can find that note or your explanation of why you believe the content is free for reuse.
It may also be necessary for the text to be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and to follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
See Wikipedia:Declaration of consent for all enquiries for a template of the permissions letter the copyright holder is expected to send.
Otherwise, you may rewrite this article from scratch. If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Leave a note at Talk:Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved.
Thank you, and please feel welcome to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing! — Diannaa (talk) 15:33, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
- my apologies - I will completely rewrite the biography, I did that lazily just to get the info down with the intention of rewriting it and I shouldn't have. Obviously it's a valuable resource so will spend some time putting the info from it in my own words. This will be resolved soon and hopefully the tag will be removed. Thanks Gregorcollins (talk) 15:44, 31 August 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for your contributions to Issa Ibrahim. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it is promotional and reads like an advertisement. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Copyright and Book Summaries
[edit]Hi, Gregorcollins! Thank you for creating the True Reagan: What Made Ronald Reagan Great and Why It Matters article. As I was reviewing it, I noticed that a lot of the book summary was copy-pasted from the Amazon page. Please note that book summaries from the publisher are covered under copyright, so you need to rewrite them in your own words. Otherwise, keep up the good work! Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 15:01, 20 September 2024 (UTC)
- thanks for the note - will rewrite. i actually didn't copy/paste from amazon page but perhaps took pieces of something else that resembled or copied from that - but regardless, will do asap thx Gregorcollins (talk) 17:19, 20 September 2024 (UTC)
- question - i just went to the page and noticed someone had already deleted/edited out the "copied" text - so does that mean it's good as it is? I was going to edit it more but still see that note that says "don't remove unless an administrator does" - so not sure what to do Gregorcollins (talk) 17:26, 20 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Gregorcollins, I've removed it - actually, even more of it. Make sure you rewrite in your own words entirely - even if you're keeping only four words in a row, if they're a distinctive set of four words, that's still too close. Think of it like this: if you wrote the original text, would you recognize that someone had used your text to write the wikipedia article, even if there weren't any sources linked there? If yes, that's too close.
- I also removed some of the "reviews" - make sure you're only getting reviews from places like newspapers and academic journals. When you see what looks like a short "review" on a publisher's website, or on the book, or on amazon, those aren't reviews but "blurbs". They're created in order to sell the book! Since they're advertising, we don't want them here. You're clear to keep editing the article now. Good luck with it! -- asilvering (talk) 01:55, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
- ok. all good, clear points. i will continue to edit it - i'm somewhat of a perfectionist when it comes to edits so i'll get it right. i've created like 6 new pages (all persons) in the last month that have been easier to be my own words, but the summary of a book is tempting to string an existing '4 words in a row' - but that's why i appreciate this feedback so I can be better, it sucks when you don't get this feedback and not know exactly what was wrong. thx again Gregorcollins (talk) 02:52, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
- spent a lot of time finishing true reagan's contents, thanks again for your feedback. my new page draft:issaibrahim has been pending for a while, perhaps you could take a look at some point but no pressure i'm sure you're busy. Gregorcollins (talk) 21:08, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
- I passed it through, but please change the IMDB reference - we don't use IMDB as a source, since it's user-generated. -- asilvering (talk) 21:17, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

Categories in Issa Ibrahim article
[edit]Hi Gregorcollins, I won't remove any categories from your articles again. I'm sorry for any problems I caused, but that being said, you should take a look at the categories you added to Issa Ibrahim. The subject of the article is a person, but you have the article in categories for hospitals, mental disorders, Psychiatric specialities, and a bunch more. The subject is clearly not a hospital, but now when anyone clicks on that category, they get a list of hospitals, and the name Issa Ibrahim. The same goes for most of the categories you added. A category for hospitals goes in articles that are about hospitals, not in articles about people who were in a hospital. I hope what I'm saying here is making sense, if not WP:CATEGORY explains the policy on categories, but a good idea when adding categories, is too check out the category first to see what articles are in it, that way you get a pretty good idea if a certain article belongs in that category. Again, I'm sorry for just going an removing the categories from your articles. I did leave an edit summary saying what I did, but it would have been better to message you here and explain why, since it dealt with categories in multiple articles. If you get stuck on any, you can leave me a message on my talk page and I'll certainly do what I can to help you. Cmr08 (talk) 03:18, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
- really appreciate it and understood - for some odd reason i get your logic yet i still for some reason in the moment thought they were appropriate categories. will be super careful from now on. thanks again Gregorcollins (talk) 11:49, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
- i totally get it now, clicking on category and really clicking through the pages helps immensely. Gregorcollins (talk) 12:11, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for October 1
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited John Kennedy (Louisiana politician), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Democrats. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Mary Baker Eddy
[edit]Just curious, do you have any interest in nominating this to become a good article? That would get another set of eyes on the article, and let it be featured in the did you know section of the main page. There's still a {{cn}} tag left in the article, but it in general looks in decent shape. Elli (talk | contribs) 19:08, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- thanks for this note - man, that would be super cool. While I've done 1000 edits on wiki total in my life, i'm still a bit of a neophyte with how to do certain things like 'good article'. i will click on good article and go from there? anything I need to know? thx again Greg (talk) (contribs) 19:10, 4 October 2024 (UTC)

- someone just, AGAIN, deleted the section I added to it that I spent hours creating (Mary Baker Eddy). I've lost all desire to even edit on here anymore - these people who just steamroll over stuff without any talk or explanation - what's the point? any advice you can give is greatly appreciated. Greg (talk) (contribs) 20:29, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- Well, I do think that section needs to be written more neutrally -- the content is relevant but you can't really write about her claimed healing powers like that in wikivoice. You want more analysis of the claims, especially from independent sources. I would work on finding more sources that discuss this. Elli (talk | contribs) 20:39, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- Also they did leave an explanation on talk. Elli (talk | contribs) 20:39, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- thx. i saw it. well, healings are terminally flawed cuz even if they are verified and happened, ppl will dispute it - do i have other sources i can cite than a biography that says they happened? no. i'm literally stating the healing as the book said. so i literally cannot do anything else. forget it. this is too stressful. i could go thru and neutralize it but i don't really know how to since i am not adding one fact personally, only from the books. christian science is too controversial a subject for me to want to spend any more time on it there will always be ppl, even with perfect sources, who will hatefully delete and dispute it. thx for your help i appreciate your kindness.
