Checkuser request

[edit]

Greekeconomist, thanks for your message. If you're aware of Cretanpride's history then you'll understand why I placed the Checkuser request. If I have made a mistake, I apologize in advance. --Akhilleus (talk) 05:45, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, but I have no useful advice to offer you. If you're blocked it will be because of Cretanpride's behavior. --Akhilleus (talk) 06:03, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, GreekEconomist. The problem is that your first username, Μέγας Αλέξανδρος (talk · contribs), is very similar to MegasAllexandros (talk · contribs), a sockpuppet account used by Cretanpride. I know that it's just "Alexander the Great" in Greek or tranliterated, and it's certainly conceivable that two different Greeks could have chosen that as a username. But it's also conceivable, based on Cretanpride's history, that Μέγας Αλέξανδρος is another sockpuppet. Checkuser is quite reliable, and I'll trust its results; if you're an innocent bystander who's been caught in the crossfire of the Cretan War, I'm very sorry.
I'm not a MySpace member, but I did have a look for the group you mentioned. Is this it? I can't see any discussion of Cretanpride's pet topics there, but perhaps I'm not looking in the right place. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 15:54, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That is the incorrect group, the correct is ArizonaCali Greeks, but the bulletin was posted several weeks ago, and is now gone. You should ask SethMahoney as to whether the link I provided is Cretanpride or not. It has come to my attention that he recieved a message from him over myspace. If you also go to "view all blog entries" you will see that myspace member has been active for nearly two months, so Akhileus is wrong saying he is a brand new user. I can't believe you all didn't allow me to even argue my case. I said I was introduced to wikipedia through that message I recieved over myspace and I decided to join. Notice how I have never edited on any article Cretanpride has and notice how I was a victim of a bad faith accusation since I hadn't done anything remotely close to what Cretanpride has. Given that everything I've said is true you should all know I am not him, or at least consider that I'm not, but it's pointless since you have all turned him into the next Adolf Hitler. Now you won't trust anyone. GreekEconomist 00:25, 21 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To Aldux, do you not see a problem when you use my edits to Notis Sfakianakis against me? Yes, he is from Crete, but he grew up in Kos and that is what he identifies as. Furthermore, he is perhaps the most successful singer in Greece and I decided to make an article on him. Him being from Crete has nothing to do with it. Absolutely nothing. Nothing else I edited, actually nothing in general that I edited has to do with Crete. The fact that you've looked that closely for every little tiny thing that might somehow remotely be considered evidence shows that you have no case. Go to a nightclub. You live in Italy don't you? Go do something with your time. By the way Megas Allexandros is the most famous Greek of all time. If anyone is to be impersonated, it's him. That username has nothing to do with it. GreekEconomist 00:48, 21 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh yeah, one more thing. I typed a micropresentation on my page? So therefore, according to your logic, I'm a sockpuppet. Do you not see a problem with this? GreekEconomist 00:53, 21 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not a sock of Cretanpride because 1)I do not have the same IP. My IP has been used by me and only by me. 2) Clearwire hotspots are frequent throughout town. For example the largest gym is a hotspot, hence the similar IP. 3) I have never edited on any articles Cr has and never will and never even came remotely close to doing so or supporting any of his arguments 4) Everything I have said is true (IP, myspace, etc) 5)I have not come close to using the same tone Cr has. In other words, I never went rambling on in an uncivilized manner. 6) Taken into consideration everything I've said is true, you have to give me the benefit of the doubt, and if I, like other Cr socks slip up, then you can block me. Right now, you can't prove that I'm him.

Unblocked

[edit]

Assuming good faith, I looked into this situation rather thoroughly. I've decided to unblock you for the following reasons. (1) Checkuser has not confirmed that GreekEconomist is a sock of Cretanpride. Checkuser has confirmed that GreekEconomist and Μέγας Αλέξανδρος are the same user, but GreekEconomist has admitted that; also, the IP involved has been identified. However, there is a relatively weak link between GreekEconomist and Cretanpride. The strongest evidence is that User:MegasAllexandros is a confirmed Cretinpride sockpuppet, which is a similar name to the Greek name you tried to use. Suspicious, yes, but doesn't prove anything. Also, you edit from a similar IP range as Cretanpride. I don't necessarily believe your account that there are hotspots all over town, but once again a similar IP is suspicious but not damning. (2) Backing up this assesment, I can tell that User:Mackensen wasn't sure about this. 90% sure, but not 100% sure, and that means a lot to me, because I trust Mackensen thoroughly. If Mackensen was sure, she would have said so. (3) Looking at your contributions, I don't see any evidence of abusive behavior. You're not here to support Cretanpride's campaigns, and while you have an interest in similar topics, that's as far as the similarity stretches. Coincidences begin to look just like coincidences when you can see differences. As you point out, you've been very civilized, unlike Cretanpride and his socks. (4) Cretanpride is banned because of sockpuppetry. It's not against the rules for someone to have one account, though, so if you ARE the same person as cretanpride but you've learned to be civil and aren't engaging in sockpuppetry, I see no real harm. (5) I assume good faith. I looked into this because I felt that JesseW's response wasn't very helpful, so I thought I could at least explain things more carefully, and found myself unconvinced there's a problem here. You have been accused of sockpuppetry. Please refer to Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Cretanpride (10th) for evidence. Please make sure you make yourself familiar with notes for the suspect before editing the evidence page. --Akhilleus (talk) 00:33, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
