American film
HI Grandpa. I see you do a great job adding images. If you come across american films in your image work please can you add Category:American films and Category:English-language films cheers. Thanks for adding to the 1995 American film list - the lists will apparently feature on the July film newsletter. Feel free to add to any of the 1980s and 1990s American film lists. Cheers ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 11:22, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
You may also find Template:Filmrationale useful for images -saves time. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 11:24, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
- Will do. I'll try to add more to the lists as well. Also, thanks for the template. -- Grandpafootsoldier 19:44, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
A new project?
I remember our collaboration on Deus Ex and how well it went, and now that I've returned from an extended wiki-break I'm looking for something else to sink my teeth into. Where does the DX article stand as of now? Are there any plans to bring it to FA or have you moved on to another article? I'd like to work with you again, especially considering our similar editing ideologies, let me know if you've got anything on your plate that you want to bring someone in on. Consequentially 22:01, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
- Sure. I've haven't done much with that article in a while, but I was actually thinking the same thing myself recently. Another user who might be a good one to contact about this issue is JimmyBlackwing. Though I haven't contacted him directly yet, he has done some really good work on the Deus Ex: Invisible War page, so I was hoping he might have some experience with the previous game in the series as well.
- In regard to the status of the article itself, though it is in pretty good shape, I think it definitely needs a trim in some areas. I was also wondering if it would be worth having some mention of the game's development. I know some featured game articles (such as Half-Life 2 specifically) eschew that topic, but since the development of Deus Ex was quite interesting, and since I have a good source on the topic, I'm slightly loath to leave it out. Of course that leads back to the issue of length again. Anyway, let me know what you think. -- Grandpafootsoldier 18:57, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
- The length of the article was never much of an issue for me. All of the content is relevant, and covered in a way that reflects the games achievements in the industry. Compare that to articles where the writing is all about the plot and in-game universe, and I'd say we're in pretty good shape. If anything, the one thing stopping me from diving in towards FA status is not knowing what more we need to get it there. I'll sneak over to the FA part of Wikipedia, and see what I can come up with. What's your source for the development? That might be what we need to get the extra mile. Consequentially 01:26, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
I understand what you mean, I've just noticed some of the editors in FA process can get a bit antsy about longer articles. It might still be worth considering abbreviating some of the more wordy sections (such as "gameplay" or "fiction") if possible.
The Gamasutra "postmortem" for the game has an overview of the production process. Thanks to an error on their website it is pretty much impossible to access it there (even if you are registered), but luckily this webpage has the entire article copied out, just scroll to near the bottom. It also has pretty much every written document in the game on it as well with commentary, which is pretty interesting if you want to check it out. -- Grandpafootsoldier 02:51, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
- Wow! That's some pretty excellent material. I did some thumbing around Google Scholar while awaiting your reply (and managed to find those articles on the DX talk page -- silly me), and found a few more articles from game development professors and art professors talking about the game's use of space, and the complexity of its ethics system. Should make solid sources for information already in there, or at least give us a few more sentences to toss in there. Check 'em out.
- about contested spaces
- Ethics and Videogames
- This makes reference to a DX-mod-turned education game. Could be useful if I can find information about the game.
- I'll thumb through the development stuff and see what I can come up with prose-wise. Do you know anyone who's got experience with FA that could give us a heads-up on what needs to be improved before we can submit? I like to work with goals in mind. Short of applying for FA now, expecting to fail, and then knowing exactly where to go, I can't think of a way to get concrete guidance on what people expect. The "How to Get FA" guides out there are vague beyond words. Consequentially 03:29, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
- Well, it might be worth it to put the page up for Wikipedia:Peer review (specifically a CVG review) again. Though it didn't get much of a look last time I did it, now that it is officially GA that might help it's standing somewhat. As for individuals who have experience with getting video game articles to FA, there is User:JimmyBlackwing as I mentioned above, another might be User:Drat. I've also found it helps to look at the archived candidate discussions for FA articles (such as here or here), especially shooters/role-playing games. The main area that gets the most attention it seems is citations. Though the article has a good amount right now, it could always use more. The synopsis for instance has good use of text sources, though it could probably use a few more.
- Also, this might be nit-picking a bit, but the fact that the page has an approximation of the original box cover art created by a user rather than the actual thing has bothered me for a while now. I don't know if they will make that big a deal out it, and I know given the fact that the original box had that annoying metallic finish that doesn't scan well and damages easily it is very hard to find a good-quality example, but if by any chance at all you might have access to such an image I think it would be of great benefit. -- Grandpafootsoldier 04:07, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
- I've left messages on both of their talk pages. We'll see what comes out of it. I wish I could help you with the image, but my copy of Deus Ex is approximately 1800 miles away from me right now. Some of the other editors might be able to help us out. Worst case scenario, I could probably buy it at GameStop for a few bucks and then take it back within a week for a full refund. I'll take another look at the synopsis in the next few days and drag up more script references. Originally I kept it thin because I didn't want to flood the thing with end-notes. Are there any specific statements you want backed up? Consequentially 09:26, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Can you actually get original copies of Deus Ex at Gamestop? I don't think the approve of any newer additions for the main box pic.
In regard to citations, I just think it needs more in general. However, it might be prudent to wait until it is decided whether the plot section will be cut down at all before adding more.

License tagging for Image:Creepozoids.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Creepozoids.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 04:05, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
American films
HI I've noticed you do a terrific job on films!!! Brilliant. I've noticed you have started many pages on action films etc. If you could make a note to always add the film to the American list for the appropriate year this would be a great help. Any further work you could do in filling in details on the American film lists would be extremely appreciated! I'm kind of having to do most of it myself! In several months they should be looking excellent!!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you?" Contribs 11:58, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
- Sure. Will do. That is a really big job you've undertaken there, I'll try to help you out on it whenever possible. -- Grandpafootsoldier 20:44, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
Please help with Abby Singer film listing
Thanks for adding the DVD poster image. Please help with the Abby Singer (film) page and listing. Exactly what makes this movie notable enough to stay on Wikipedia? -- VegitaU said that this movie may not be notable enough to stay on Wikipedia? I believe that it is. Also he has posted a notice that the film title maybe deleted. Please Help with this. Also please see Talk:Abby Singer (film) to see the some reasons that this film should be listed on Wikipedia.CamdawgUGA 06:16, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
- I'll add my support for your reasons, but having not actually had any direct experience with film, I don't really see how I can be much of a help. I tend to just add images to whatever film page needs them, regardless of whether I've seen them or not. -- Grandpafootsoldier 22:13, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Ywalposter.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Ywalposter.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI 22:34, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Image uploads
Good job on all of the movie poster uploads you have done. There have been several times when you have beaten me to adding an image to an article. With the current fair use requirements guidelines, I just wanted to tell you that size of the posters need to be 300px or less to qualify as fair use. I've reduced all of my posters that I've uploaded since I found out, and have been doing others' images at random as I run across them. For the future, when you beat me to an article again, please make sure the image has been reduced somewhat so it isn't deleted down the line. Again, good job on the uploads and happy editing! --Nehrams2020 02:15, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads up. Just to clarify, by "300px" do you mean height, or width and height can't be more than 300px? If you could direct me to the exact WP guidelines that would be a big help. Thanks again. -- Grandpafootsoldier 03:25, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
- For me, I've been going with width, since the posters are normally tall. I got the info from the second note on Template:Non-free use rationale. If we tried to bring the height down to below 300, it might be too small for the infobox and the image would be stretched/distorted when it was used. I think as long as we're reducing the size to from what it was before, it should be alright. --Nehrams2020 00:24, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, that's what I needed to know. -- Grandpafootsoldier 00:34, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:BSU.gif. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 19:26, 15 September 2007 (UTC). Thanks for uploading Image:Skeletonmandvd.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 05:28, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

Movie poster reductions
Hey, me again. I see that you have been uploading images 300px and below and that you have been reducing some of your larger images that you've uploaded in the past, keep up the good work. If you reduce the image size, add Template:Non-free reduced to the image page and in seven days an admin will delete the old version. I was recently given the mop and bucket, so if you don't want to tag all of the articles and wait for them to be deleted, then you can just list all of the images on a subpage or my talk page and I'll delete all of the old versions for you. I think that will save you and me more time if it's done that way. I already went through your talk page here and deleted all of the large images from the "Orphaned non-free media" messages. Let me know what you think. --Nehrams2020 01:14, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads-up. I'll do either of those in the future. -- Grandpafootsoldier 23:30, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
