Fear Factory

[edit]

Hello there. Appreciate your help over Fear Factory, but the article is in a really bad state and I would want some more experienced user to go through it. Glad to see there are still enthusiastic editors willing to improve Wikipedia, but I'd be thankful if you skip this one.--Retrohead (talk) 18:27, 7 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No problem at all! It did seem a bit daunting to be honest but I'm glad to keep learning and contributing. Graham McCormack (talk) 15:13, 9 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Retrohead:Actually, I've just noticed that you reversed my paraphrasing work on Metallica, I thought I'd done what you asked but obviously not - can you give me any advice as to what I've done wrong? Thanks.
Hey Graham, what I wanted was paraphrasing the statements by Hetfield and Ulrich, or re-writing them with your own words. For example, Ulrich's quotation "You think one day some fucker's gonna tell you, 'You have a number one record in America,' and the whole world will ejaculate." means that he didn't have high expectations about the album's commercial performance. The purpose if the copyediting guild is to make the prose less verbose and more concise and straight to the point.--Retrohead (talk) 16:34, 9 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Retrohead: I thought that's what I had done?
You actually added an unknown link [1] and altered the statements [2], which is not allowed. When paraphrasing, you need to lose the quote marks and box quote. Unless you do that, the reader is going to assume that your words were actually Hetfield's.--Retrohead (talk) 13:07, 10 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Retrohead: Ah ok, apologies on the paraphrasing - I'll be interested to see how somebody else changes it so I can get a better idea, thanks for the clarification. I added an unknown link? Did I? It was unintentional, which link? I'm finding it difficult to see it in the differences pages you sent me.
@Retrohead: Ah I see it now! Yes, sorry that was me trying to follow the guide on adding a .js to obtain the word count. I didn't realise, sorry. I'm still learning, keen but learning :) thanks for your help.
