Your username

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Gordon.re", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are invited to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you personally, such as "Jack Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people, and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, or website, regardless of your username. Moreover, I recommend that you read our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please create a new account or request a change of username, by completing this form, that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. Vanjagenije (talk) 23:49, 7 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy or request a change of username.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Thank you. Since you are not promoting a web site, I am unblocking you. You don't need to change your username, but if you'd like, you can do it at Wikipedia:Changing username. Vanjagenije (talk) 18:05, 16 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Vanjagenije - apparently they're using their surname.initials as a username. I don't see how this name violates WP:U - a Google search doesn't turn up any company by that name, so I can't see how this "unambiguously represent the name of a company". Please reconsider this block. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 17:43, 16 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Ian (Wiki Ed): No, it does not "unambiguously represent the name of a company", but it does "unambiguously represent the name of a web site" (i.e. https://gordon.re/ ). Vanjagenije (talk) 17:51, 16 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Vanjagenije - be that as it may, policy doesn't forbid names that coincidentally match websites. (Most English-speaking people don't even know .re is a TLD.) Even if it did, real names are always permitted. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 18:00, 16 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Ian (Wiki Ed): Yes, I guess you are right. At first I thought it is some commercial web site, but now I see that it is a personal web page. I am going to unblock the account. Vanjagenije (talk) 18:04, 16 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
