Meh, no one really had a good reason to oppose and there was like 4 supports. RandySavageFTW (talk) 15:26, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
- Be prepared for the coming reaction, from the pro-dios/accents crowd. GoodDay (talk) 15:27, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
precursor
Hehe, so those State of Play scriptwriters weren't as original as I thought! Tony (talk) 16:50, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
- Apparently not. GoodDay (talk) 16:53, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
I would happily support that suggestion. YeshuaDavid • Talk • 20:22, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
- Template: Northumbrian monarchs and Template: Wessex monarchs already exist, covering those monarchs prior to English unification, much the equivilent of the Picts and Scotland. There doesn't seem to be a Template: Strathclyde monarchs, but feel free to make one if you want. YeshuaDavid • Talk • 20:31, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
- Indeed, all the more reason to split the Picts & Scots. Like the Kingdom of England, the Kingdom of Scotland was the result of eventual unification among smaller Kingdoms. GoodDay (talk) 20:44, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I see. Kind of defeats the point in being inclusive though - if you want, I can attempt the merge myself. YeshuaDavid • Talk • 18:58, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
- Also, what about splitting the Picts from the Scots? YeshuaDavid • Talk • 18:59, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
Lol, I'm trying to make the super-template (England, Scotland, UK) right now, and hopefully, once tat's finished, it will make the English and Scottish templates redundant. We can just reduce the Scottish and Pictish monarchs template to just cover the Picts, and move it to "Template:Pictish monarchs" YeshuaDavid • Talk • 19:14, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
- Created it, Template:English, Scottish and British monarchs. Please improve if you can. I'm thinking that perhaps we should remove the Anglo-Saxon monarchs, given that we are removing the Picts. YeshuaDavid • Talk • 19:41, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
- If you're cool with the template, we can make Template:English monarchs and Teplate:Pictish and Scottish monarchs a redirect to the super-template, so we don't have to change each article by hand. YeshuaDavid • Talk • 19:45, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
I don't see that much bias, but it's you're choice. YeshuaDavid • Talk • 22:28, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
English Wikipedia suffers 2 crashes
Jumpers, 2 crashes within 1-week? I think that English Wikipedia is getting too large for the servers. The time may be coming, to seperate the articles among 2 Wikipedias: English Wikipedia 1 & English Wikipedia 2. GoodDay (talk) 23:23, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
Yep.Really enoying aint it.Especially when youre a person like me whom gives large posts and ends up rewritting it all again--HENRY V OF ENGLAND (talk) 23:34, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
- Hey GoodDay, why don't you put yourself up for Jimmy Wales role if there is an English Wikipedia 2. Think of all that lovely power you would have. Jack forbes (talk) 23:36, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
- That sounds like a great idea! --David (talk) 18:33, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
- Such an impossible move, would first require me to be an administrator. My response to such a appointment? would be a Sherman statement. -- GoodDay (talk) 20:04, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
- Hello Jack are you finished from semi-retiring--HENRY V OF ENGLAND (talk) 00:45, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

- How ya doing Jack. Being the self-styled Emperor of Earth doesnt' come close to Jimbo's god-like status on Wikipedia. I'd still give him the Wayne's World salute. GoodDay (talk) 13:26, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- Have you had a look at this? There may be a revolution on the horizon. Will he be sent to the tower? Will he gather his forces and repel this attack on his God like status? Stay tuned folks. Jack forbes (talk) 13:32, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- Yup (seen it) & it's not gonna go anywhere. PS: I admire Giano's determination, though. GoodDay (talk) 13:35, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- Jimbo actually offered to give up his block button for six months if Bishonen conceded that certain language should automatically be a blockable offence.[1] I reckon he's feeling a little bit of pressure. Jack forbes (talk) 13:41, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- Congrats to Jimbo, did Bishonen agree to it? GoodDay (talk) 13:48, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- No reply from Bishonen as yet. Jack forbes (talk) 13:51, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

- I think Jimbo's right. An administrator needs to set an example and using profanity is not going to earn anyone's respect. I really don't think it's a case of culture clash. I am a Californian who could probably out-curse most Northern (as well as Southern) Europeans, but I am here to create articles not Mae West-style histrionics, and I feel a person cannot be taken seriously if he or she resorts to cursing at someone from behind the protective shield of a computer screen.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 14:03, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- Thus the ball in is Giano's & Bishonen's court. They've a choice, accept the Civilty rule or continue getting blocked. GoodDay (talk) 14:08, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- As you say GoodDay, it's all a bit of a soap opera. Gotta go now and watch Andy Murray play his quarter final at Wimbledon. Jack forbes (talk) 14:10, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Wikimedia problems
Now, I'm getting Wikimedia technical problems (the server's down). Also, getting internet probs. What the heck is going on? GoodDay (talk) 20:32, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
- Maybe Henry VI of England(Henri II of France) is unhappy about you not recogizing his French title to the crown after all the proof had been presented.I advise you to anknowledge Henry's title then maybe the wiki servers will work properly.--HENRY V OF ENGLAND (talk) 20:56, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
- Henry's been dead since
14611471. I doubt he's happy or unhappy about anything (whatever's left of him). GoodDay (talk) 20:58, 2 July 2009 (UTC) - Yeah, I've been having Wikipedia/Interney problems too. It's either the ghost of Henry V, annoyed with us for misquoting him in addition to not recognising his son, or..............The Grinning Cheshire Cat!!!!!Hellp!--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 03:25, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
- Henry VI has been dead since 1471.Not 1461.1461 was when he was deposed by Edward IV son of Richard duke of York.--HENRY V OF ENGLAND (talk) 15:55, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
- Henry's been dead since
- After The Battle of Towton in March 1461, when the Yorkist army devastated the Lancastrians.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 17:52, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
- Oops, meant to say 1471. GoodDay (talk) 20:18, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
- GoodDay, did you know the Battle of Towton was the deadliest battle ever fought on English soil? It was. The death toll was enormous, and the Lancastrians almost completely wiped out.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 03:46, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
- It certainly was a 'turning point' in history. GoodDay (talk) 14:44, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah but the Lancastrians won at the end at Bosworth thanks to the treachery of Stanley--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 20:30, 5 July 2009 (UTC).
- They all certainly had their 'family feuds'. GoodDay (talk) 21:36, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Stanley Cup Overtime Winners
- Don't know how to contact you, but noticed your note from June 20: "These nav boxes have been deleted, as being un-needed on the respective player articles. GoodDay (talk) 15:39, 20 June 2009 (UTC)" Please explain the reasoning for this. In some cases, the players in question are recognized first and foremost for this accomplishment, and the category is not superfluous at all. Feel free to conact me with answer via e-mail or on this page. 208.77.237.162 (talk) 23:06, 8 July 2009 (UTC) Njsswriter (talk) 23:07, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
They were erased as there has to be a limit, to such navboxes. What's next, Stanley Cup Overtime assist(s)? GoodDay (talk) 23:16, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, well, feeding the trolls doesn't usually help. ;). Maxim blocked the IP he started from, and I've locked his talk page. He's going to have to go find something else to do now. Resolute 00:12, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Diacritics
why the crossout? over my head there --Львівске (talk) 00:09, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
I guess I'll try to deal with it when it comes, as the IAR says, " In cases of conflict, what counts as an improvement is decided by consensus."....there's no reason why they should be winning, it actually makes wikipedia worse since it's so damn hard to read!--Львівске (talk) 02:08, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
- They're winning, because they are bullies. GoodDay (talk) 17:43, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
- Says the guy who is constantly bashing diacritics announcements over peoples heads. -Djsasso (talk) 18:01, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
- And as far as them being harder to read, only in rare cases, in most cases readers just ignore them. -Djsasso (talk) 18:01, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
- The guy who gets pushed aside & labeled a xenopobic. The guy who got tired of the pro-dio control freaks & resigned his membership with the WikiProject-in-question. The guy who's told the NHLPA website is to be ignored. The guys who's told, if he makes certain edits? he'll be reverted. The guy, who continues to see English Wikipedia as English Wikipedia & not International Wikipedia. GoodDay (talk) 18:07, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
- Or rather the guy who tries to bully everyone into changing to his views where there should not be any by constantly badgering people about it so they finally say ok I give up? The people who want diacritics rarely talk about them, you constantly bring them up so I would say you are closer to the control freak aspect than the people who like them. When was the last time you even created or edited a hockey article other than changing diacritics or undoing vandalism? Why you think you wouldn't be reverted when you revert others is ridiculous. Why do you think you should have special treatment when you try and bully your opinion onto everyone who edits here through your constant barrage on the topic? -Djsasso (talk) 18:16, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
- 30 NHL template rosters in exchange for all those Quebec-based hockey articles. A little pebble in exchange for the entire beach. GoodDay (talk) 18:19, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
- Sometimes I wonder if you are just a robot spouting off pre-programmed responses since you repeat phrases like that over and over. You've been shown time and again that its wiki-wide policy to have them on place names. Yet you continue to believe that a single wikiproject can override that. And then you wonder why people think you are xenophobic. -Djsasso (talk) 18:22, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
- 30 templates, will disrupt the entire English Wikipedia? Anyways, I haven't deleted those dios-in-question for 'bout a year. Other then complaining at Userpages of editors who already argree with me (thus no canvassing), I haven't disrupted those templates. If for example, an editor wishes me not to post about dios on their Userpages, I'll respect their request. GoodDay (talk) 18:39, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
- My comments are more directed at article talk pages. For example in the middle of an unrelated discussion about can/us spelling you interjected with a comment about remember to not include diacritics. Its belittling to users to constantly have you telling them that. Believe me if there is someone who edits hockey articles that doesn't know you don't like diacritics I would be surprised. And as for the 30 template, its not about disrupting the english wikipedia its about consistency. Also you never actually give reasons behind your opinion or back it up with any arguments. All you ever do is give one or two line WP:ILIKEIT or WP:IDONTLIKEIT arguments which the 30 templates are a good example of...you think we should let you have them just cause you want it to be that. -Djsasso (talk) 20:23, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
- I've toned down on my edit summaries & will endeaver to say 'mum' on the Hockey talk-pages (except the WikiProject). As for the WikiProject, if the members (via consensus) wish me to 'stop' commenting on Diacritics there, I'll endeaver to do so. Though I don't claim it to be your (plural) intentions, I'll make the effort to reduce my 'comments' on this topic. GoodDay (talk) 20:32, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

You're right GoodDay, I can definitely see the bullying now.--Львівске (talk) 22:26, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
- Yep. When I point to the keep out sections of the WP:HOCKEY dios compromise, I'm told the compromise can be ignored. When the keep in sections are pointed out, one's told to abide by the compromise. Double standard, IMHO. GoodDay (talk) 16:08, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- That isn't what I said at all. I said you (personally) are able to ignore it if you want but that other editors will revert you because of the agreement. And in the same instance I could if I wanted to do add diacritics to north american articles and you could revert me because of the agreement (which you already do to users who don't follow it). You just love twisting my words don't you? I even revert people who add them on north american pages and you know it. So don't go trying to say there is a double standard, I have yet to see you re-add them to a euro page. -Djsasso (talk) 16:36, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- I don't intend to add non-English markings to any part of English Wikipedia. GoodDay (talk) 16:44, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- So then you proved my point. Thank you. You choose to look the other way and to not enforce the agreement (as you are allowed to do) while you expect those of us who do like them to revert IP users who add them. That is a double standard. -Djsasso (talk) 17:03, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- Indeed, from the moment it was retroactively decided that French accents would be allowed on Quebec-based hockey articles (thus contradicting the North American amendment), the compromise became null & void to me (thus my reasons for dropping my WP:HOCKEY membership). Sorry
Hi GoodDay, I'm sorry if I was a bit over the top a couple of days ago concerning the Royalty template. I was pretty stressed out due to a family member being taken to hospital. Thankfully she is fine now and up and about. Jack forbes (talk) 17:34, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- No prob Jack. It's good to know she's doing fine. GoodDay (talk) 17:38, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- Life is normally great until it suddenly kicks you in the b***s. I'm de-stressed now but may still take a break. Don't go getting stressed over those diactrics or whatever you call them, hardly worth breaking sweat over them (in my opinion). Jack forbes (talk) 17:44, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- I've promised Djssaso, that'll I'll tone down my passions over those diacritics. Admittedly, I can be quite stubborn when I know I'm right (ha ha). GoodDay (talk) 17:49, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

(outdent) Do you remember the old saying: "People who think they know it all, are only annoying those of us, who do". GoodDay (talk) 17:55, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- Yep, and there are quite a few of those on wikipedia. (naming no names, I'm keeping out of trouble). I'd rather go around wikipedia pretending I know nothing (are you just pretending you ask?) and let all those who know "everything" get on with it. When they make a blunder everyone is shocked (or pleased) while if I do something right people may be pleasantly surprised. You see, I do have a plan! Jack forbes (talk) 18:00, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
My weakness is bringing up sources, to back my arguments. I'm simply too lazy to seek them out. GoodDay (talk) 18:05, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
Carol I and his brother
So it would appear - it's unclear when Leopold's renunciation occurred, though - both he and his eldest son had renounced by 1888, but Leopold may have renounced much earlier than his son. john k (talk) 18:08, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

RE: From ANI
Good for them - they can come and chip in at AN/I, then. As I said at ANI, I wasn't making any comment on the validity of most of your statement or suggesting that it wasn't a problem, simply that implying he never ever ever talks to anyone ever on the entire wiki at any point in any year at all is incorrect. You don't need to use constant italics to illustrate your points in future, by the way - tone comes through quite easily without them. The fact that you're posting an AN/I thread already implies you're concerned about [AN/I thread subject here] without italicising text. Ironholds (talk) 17:02, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

Well, I've spoken for the moment and we'll see what comes of it, I suppose...but the irony of it is if he only edited a little faster or used a vulgarity or two, he'd have been blocked or banned long ago, in a snap! Instead with this "glacial vandalism" of triviality, he's somehow managed to skirt the line of acceptability all this time...all the while continuing with his own agendas. Re-read the '94 Finals talk page if you need a laugh. I was stunned and quite annoyed upon encountering him myself. P.S. Are my replies supposed to be here? I know that's status quo, but doesn't it make sense to have a discussion on one page? –ConkblockCity (talk) 20:09, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
- He's deliberately ignoring the ANI report & his own Userpage. One can be disruptive, without being grumpy. GoodDay (talk) 20:17, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
- Whoops, well there's a reply on my page, but I think a bigger miracle just happened. "I do believe in miracles, I do believe in miracles, I do, I do!!!!!" (Gosh, and just after I was actually trying to play nice. Well, guess we'll see when he comes back.) –ConkblockCity (talk) 20:37, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
Well, this has already been interesting, if tiring. :) Have you ever gotten someone blocked before? (I wonder if and what he'll be willing to discuss when he comes back...) –ConkblockCity (talk) 21:22, 11 July 2009 (UTC) (I've decided to become 'bold' for the moment.)
- When he gets back? perhaps he'll get me blocked. GoodDay (talk) 21:27, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
- Why not me? I started it. Or perhaps he'll learn to cooperate. Funny, I was just thinking about how I could demonstrate what's constructive and what's superfluous...(it wouldn't be too hard). Hey, you didn't answer my question! –ConkblockCity (talk) 21:50, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
- I can't remember having filed an ANI report, before today. GoodDay (talk) 21:51, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
- BTW, I know what I said about talk page status quo, but there isn't any need for you to double-post here AND on my page. One or the other will show up on my watchlist and do just fine. (...I just realized that the purpose of receiving posts in your own page as opposed to other Wikipedians' is that you also get the orange bar. Silly me. Apparently there IS a reason behind it! Status quo then!) –ConkblockCity (talk) 22:07, 11 July 2009 (UTC) ("y'all come back now, y'hear?")

soviet consensus
if you followed the discussion as i have, things were leaning in my direction. it seems people who didn't want to take part in the discussions before now have an opinion....djsasso even said if i did it it wouldnt be reverted, not is is.
it should either be "Russian SFSR" or "Soviet Union". We should reach consensus on that. "U.S.S.R." is a definite no go, and since no other abbreviations are used for other players "USSR" should be avoided as well.--Львівске (talk) 22:40, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- I said I wouldn't revert it, mostly because I would be too lazy to follow you around doing so, but I didn't mean others would not. But such is the nature of wikipedia, people usually don't want to waste their time on a discussion until they have to talk about it, as such they ignored your discussions until you started making the changes at which point they were forced to discuss it. USSR is usually used as a short form in the vein similar to CAN or USA. -Djsasso (talk) 18:13, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Those Ireland articles
For over a year, I've been supporting the movement of Republic of Ireland to 'Ireland (state), Ireland to 'Ireland (island)' & Ireland (disambiguation) to 'Ireland'. Due to the attitude towards me by an editor who shares similiar views (i.e - don't like RoI)? perhaps I should reconsider that stance. I'm a layman when it comes to the Ireland issues & therefore I don't appreciate the GoodDay get lost approach, from a certain editor in particular at the Collaboration page-in-question. GoodDay (talk) 14:19, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
- Hi GoodDay, I got totally "numbed out" by that page, and for different reasons than you, I might get interested again at some stage. Sorry if I got tetchy over my belief that there is only one country called Ireland which covers the whole island, and the 'sovereign' part of the country is 26 counties. To me Ireland is a bit like what Germany used to be, a country mistakingly divided. Keep the faith ;) - Tfz 12:20, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

Islanders were rotating three players as Alternate Captain
I have found two games in which Sillinger was in the line-up, but was not wearing an A:
December 26, 2008 vs Toronto and December 29, 2008 at Rangers.
If Park & Weight were only injury replacements, I think Sillinger would had worn a letter. Raul17 (talk) 19:44, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

I have the feeling that they will name Witt & Weight as Alternates with Park, Hunter or Streit as rotating Alternates!! 21:18, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
- I doubt that the Islanders will name a Captain this season. They bypassed Witt (and Sillinger) for Guerin, two years ago. I doubt that Weight will be named because he might be here for only one season (and then thet must name another captain). Raul17 (talk) 23:45, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
- I hope somebody gets the captaincy, next season. The 'no captain' for the season stuff, isn't my choice. GoodDay (talk) 19:21, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

"False claims"
But that is not a false claim - at least, it's not false on its face. I would argue that this is more or less exactly what happened. I could go over all this again - many Scots at the time and since have viewed the Union as a disguised annexation, acquiesced in by the Scottish commissioners and parliament largely through bribery; no monarch even visited Scotland from the time of the union until 1821; the cabinet of the monarch in the new kingdom of Great Britain consisted almost entirely of English officers holding previously English offices (the Scottish Secretaryship of State almost immediately fell into decrepitude); the English parliament was expanded to include a limited number of Scottish members and peers, rather than a merger resulting in a new parliament; the monarch continued to be referred to informally as "King of England" without any real controversy for at least two centuries or so (which is to say - it was no more incorrect to call George III "King of England" than it was to call Philip II "King of Spain"); and so forth. Since I've said all this to you before, and you've completely ignored it, I assume it will do no good this time. But could you at least stop referring to what is basically your unsupported opinion as though it is incontrovertible fact? john k (talk) 14:33, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
- I understand what you're saying. England is looked upon as the dominate partner. But the 1707 Act of Union says otherwise. GoodDay (talk) 14:36, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

- Republic of Ireland should be moved to Ireland (state) or Ireland (republic), as the name of the country is Ireland.
- As far as I can see, Ireland (republic) isn't an option... --HighKing (talk) 10:10, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

diacritics & quebec
A proposal has been made on Wikipedia_talk:HOCKEY#Die-a-critics_.28one_more_time_baby.21.29 to use the policy of the league or tournament organizer for the use of diacritics. You might support this. While it means accents, etc. on QMJHL articles, it could lead to a reduction of diacritics as a whole. The IIHF, KHL, Spengler Cup, and of course the North American leagues don't use diacritics in their English spellings. Player articles are beyond this scope. Alaney2k (talk) 16:43, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- I'll have to disagree with the proposal, as the diacritics are still allowed on NHL team articles (i.e. player's birthplaces). GoodDay (talk) 21:54, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- That's okay. It doesn't have to be unanimous. Stay in the loop. Alaney2k (talk) 21:58, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Have you ever seen the Martyn Turner cartoons in the Irish Times? There is always an wee bird in the corner making a comment on proceedings - I knew you reminded me of something! Hello GoodDay.
I just wanted to thank you for being so friendly to me here at Wikipedia, I appreciated your kindness alot. Now that my latest "stay in the Tower-of-London" is over, I must admit that I just don't have the temperment for the way Wikipedia works (the Dominion of Canada and the British Isles debates, eh). (outdent) By the way, are intestinal ulcers painful? Like, bend over hold your guts painful? GoodDay (talk) 17:57, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

Root beer is delicious, especially root beer floats. Ah......bliss for the taste buds. Today is another boiling hot day. I spent the morning lazily floating on an air mattress in the open sea. More bliss. These are the days when one is glad to be alive.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 10:50, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
- Yummy, Root beer. GoodDay (talk) 21:45, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

- It was boiling today. I spent the whole day in the sea, but even that felt like blue lava. It's still roasting and it's now 20.21 CEST.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 18:22, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- I'm soo eager for the autum weather. The summer simply exhausts me. GoodDay (talk) 18:23, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- Don't speak sacrilege, GoodDay. To me the autumn means a return to my normal, boring life. No more hot fun in the summertime! I adore being lazy, and swimming and floating under dreaming skies in the warm, azure Ionian Sea with the ghost ships of Barbary pirates and Crusaders sailing alongside me. Don't mention the word autumn again, PLEASE!--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 18:30, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

- This year the water is not good for cuddling as there are no lifeguards this summer for some bizarre reason. Sob sob. Anyroad, today was hot and humid, also I was kissed by a jellyfish as I cavorted among the waves out in the open sea.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 19:10, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

- I don't live in the apartments, I live in a house which you can't see in the photo as I took the photo from outside my front door. Half of the apartments are occupied by year-long residents, while the other half are used by summer residents like myself. I tell you GoodDay, I'm totally wiped out after spending more than six weeks at the beach; swimming, sunbathing, and going to bed after midnight everynight. I had great fun, but I'm feeling the results now. One night I slept on the beach in a tent, but hardly got any sleep at all. It was the night of 14/15 August which is called Ferragosto here. Everyone camps out on the beach and goes for a midnight swim accompanied by fireworks going off. Fun but exhausting.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 07:17, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

()On your comment on this IP's talk page: I'd love to be welcomed with open arms but I was just following WP:BRD, which I found linked from the 1RR policy page. I read that policy page because there was recent discussion of the policy on the British Isles talk page and I was entirely unfamiliar with it. Also, it's a bit much to discover that accurately using Britannica as a source is a cause for controversy and reversion by other editors (not you, I realize) on grounds of "I have a slight problem with it". 213.155.151.233 (talk) 13:33, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

Grits Jump!
Do you think someone has the guts of a 41st Canadian Parliament ready to go in a sandbox? If not, it looks like it's time. So, any chance it won't happen? (Could the Grits really bottle it again?) How do you feel about the fourth election in, what, six years? What result do you forsee? -Rrius (talk) 01:25, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
- I foresee 2 possibilities. 1) The NDP won't support the non-confidence motion, in order to get back at the Liberals back-stabbing the coalition idea. 2) If an election is forced, it'll result in a smaller Conservative minority government. I'd encourage anybody, if they wish to prepare a 41st Canadian Parliament article. I believe the Libs are trying to pull the plug 'now', because of upcoming retirements of Liberal senators. GoodDay (talk) 18:57, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
- I'm fascinated about how the economy plays into this. I think the Libs are pulling the plug because they are afraid the economy will be better by spring, and that letting that happen would destroy any hopes of getting into government anytime soon. Interestingly, the media everywhere (Canada, the US, the UK) are reporting a recovery. If Harper can sell that the stimulus is working and that the Liberals just want to take the credit when upturn translates into jobs, the Liberals could be in real trouble. The fact that they are forcing an election without any clear reason could annoy voters just enough for them to punish the Liberals for it. If Ignatieff can't come up with anything better than "we're sick of propping them up" very, very soon, the Conservatives will have a pretty easy time painting this as a power grab with no more basis than that Ignatieff wants to be Prime Minister. As far as the upcoming Liberal vacancies, wouldn't it be hilarious if that were a significant part of their thinking, but Harper used his power to recommend eight additional Conservative senators? -Rrius (talk) 19:12, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
- Yep, it could back-fire on Iggy. Harper needs a majority in the Senate, so he can get the Senate to 'reform' itself (not to mention getting bills passed quicker). The Liberals are in a tight spot, they can't back down now (without further image damage). Indeed, the top issue of the election, might be the election itself. GoodDay (talk) 19:18, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
- I'd say it should be fun, but even from south of the border, I can't. It sounds positively exhausting. I almost started this topic by asking you who you thought would win the 42nd general election, tentatively scheduled for autumn 2010, but that would just be cruel. -Rrius (talk) 20:27, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
- The chances of a 'majority government' in Canada happening again in the fore-seeable future, is slim (considering there's at least 5 major parties in play. PS- I know, I'm being generous to the Greens). So, frequent federal elections may be the norm for sometime & we may never get to use the 'fixed elections' rule. GoodDay (talk) 20:34, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
- You need to just let Quebec go. Without the Bloc, I think the last few governments would all have been majority governments. -Rrius (talk) 20:44, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
- I like Rick Mercer's views on Quebec seperatism. Quebec leaves, Canada votes to join them, we become a big country named 'Quebec', have a plebescite on the name & change it back to Canada. GoodDay (talk) 20:49, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
- Ha! And that would be perfect for you because it would be...the Republic of Quebec → Republic of Canada! -Rrius (talk) 20:58, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

(outdent) Yep, Canada is due to have a President. GoodDay (talk) 20:59, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
- OMG are those liberals causing trouble again? They ran away the 8 months ago following the crisis then, this instability is very bad for Canada. Separatism, the curse of modern democratic sovereign states must fail. The separatists around the world stick together, the sovereign states they seek to destroy must stand firm and united too. If one succeeds it will only encourage the others and set a very very dangerous precedent. BritishWatcher (talk) 20:41, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
- The Conservatives will win the next Fed election. The Liberals are only grumping 'cause there'll soon be a Conservative majority in the Senate in early 2010 (thanks to mandatory retirements for 75yr-old senators). With 5 major parties in Canada, a majority government is likely a thing of the past. GoodDay (talk) 20:47, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
- But BW (I hope you don't mind the abbreviation), wouldn't be much simpler (or at least amusing) to let all the separatist separate on the condition that they join each other? Northern QuebeGreenScotTexLaska! Actually, I'm not sure how I feel about separatist movements. After all, I want to sell Hawaii to the Japanese and Alaska to GoodDay's countrymen. I'd also not object to Texas and Florida going their own way(s). -Rrius (talk) 20:53, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
Ted Kennedy
Not much is being said about the death of Ted Tennedy. It's truly the end of an era now, don't you think?--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 06:17, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

- Remember that unforgetable scene in Saturday Night Fever with John Travolta strutting down to the dance floor? Ah the tacky, whacky world of the 1970s! Too bad you were too young to appreciate it, GoodDay. Oh, BTW, seeing as you like 1960s music, go over to YouTube and check out The Easybeats singing Friday On My Mind. Fantastic song from a fantastic, legendary decade, the likes of which the world will, sadly, never glimpse again.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 05:33, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

- But what an exciting decade. Not only was the music great, but everything was wonderful, fresh, and innovative: films, cars, fashion, furniture, life-style, art, television programmes....I wish I had been older in the 1960s so I could have fully participated in the action that was exploding everywhere.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 05:52, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Mass. Senate
It looks like the Mass. Representatives have settled on one of their number, after all. Capuano is the only one still in it. -Rrius (talk) 16:45, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Layton
Why don't the NDP extract some concessions from the Conservatives and then say, "we are supporting the Tories because a Conservative minority government is better than a Conservative majority government. We believe the result of an election forced by the Liberals would be another Conservative minority or a Conservative majority, making an election either pointless or disastrous." The Liberals are having some fun at the NDP's expense, and the media are painting them as calculating hypocrites. Saying something like that would be striking back at the Libs, and might change the media narrative from "NDP are calculating hypocrites" back to "why now?" Am I missing something, or are the Canadian parties of the left just fond of pain? -Rrius (talk) 17:13, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not sure as to what the New Democrats are up to. They've no hope of becoming the government or the opposition. I reckon that Layton is still smarting from last January's 'no go' on the coalition idea. GoodDay (talk) 19:01, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
Thanks to the BQ, the Conservatives will survive this Friday. GoodDay (talk) 20:54, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
- That is a surprise. Depending on when exactly the October Opposition Day is, Harper that could keep Harper alive long enough for another Senate appointment. If it ends up looking like he is going to lose the motion, do you think he'll advise the GG to appoint eight additional senators? -Rrius (talk) 22:26, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
- If there's vacancies in the Senate by that time, yep, he'll request further appointments. GoodDay (talk) 15:25, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
- Currently, the seat count is 52-Liberals, 46-Conservatives, 4-Independants, 2-Progressive Conservatives & 1-Independant Liberal. GoodDay (talk) 15:34, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
- I meant using the Section 26 of the Constitution Act to appoint eight supernumerary senators (two from each region). He could appoint four instead, but why not go all the way. -Rrius (talk) 15:43, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
- Stuffing the Senate to maximum 113? I'd be quite surprised if Harper took that route, although I'd get a chuckle out of it (if only to hear a Liberal uproar). GoodDay (talk) 15:46, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
- I guess the problem would be timing. He might be reluctant to do it right before an election, and he might not be able to do it under the caretaker convention after a dissolution. Do you know whether Senate vacancies can be filled during a caretaker period? -Rrius (talk) 16:57, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
- I believe he can recommend Senate appointments anytime, as long as he's Prime Minister; though I'm not certain. GoodDay (talk) 17:07, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
- I'm sure he has the power, but by convention ministers don't do anything major during an election, right? Speaking of elections and Senate appointments, Layton announced they will prop up Harper for the coming weeks and perhaps through the autumn. -Rrius (talk) 20:48, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
- Yep, now it's time for the Liberals to kick & scream. As for appointments during election campaigns, yeah it's consider 'bad taste' to do so. GoodDay (talk) 20:49, 16 September 2009 (UTC)

Note that even if Micks talkpage is protected he is still able to request unblock by emailing an admin to request it. I would much prefer he moderate his language though and have a dialogue with me. I have his page on my watchlist because he made a off color comment at WMC page. I in turn had that in my watchlist as I do several Admin so when a user is out of line I can easily take it to an admin. You seem to be on good terms with him. Try and get him to understand that he only person he is hurting now is himself. If he can moderate his opinions to fit within our guidlines of civility and personal attacks hey glad to have him here. If he can't though it makes it a doubly stressfull environment for others and makes our site look like squabbling little kids. We're all adults we should act like it when we speak here. Ravitch
Regarding this edit, I agree with the edit and am not making or requesting any change, because it better represents the situation. However, on a rhetorical point regarding the edit summary - don't you think it remains to be seen? Frank | talk 16:25, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
- I thought the situation was settled, that the lieutenant governorship would remain vacant until January 1, 2011. But you're correct, afterall Governor Paterson could chose Ravitch as his running-mate in 2010 & both could win election. GoodDay (talk) 16:28, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
- No, I doubt that electoral scenario is realistic. But has the Court of Appeals made its ruling since Friday's hearing? I haven't seen it. Frank | talk 18:11, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
- I've not a clue, but it'll likely be against Ravitch. GoodDay (talk) 19:37, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not sure. Ravitch has a good argument that Sen. Skelos doesn't have standing to bring the challenge in the first place. If that argument is upheld, Cuomo would have to bring an action. -Rrius (talk) 19:53, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

None of that has anything to do with my original point, which is that whether or not he was ever lt. gov actually remains to be seen. Curious, rhetorical...possibly time-wasting...but I think that's where it actually stands at the moment. We don't know if he was or wasn't or will be or won't be...yet. If they rule the appointment was constitutional, then they will decide as of when. If they rule it wasn't constitutional, then probably he never was lt. gov. History in the making. :-) Frank | talk 01:13, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- My guess is, the Lieutenant Governorship will be ruled 'vacant'. GoodDay (talk) 14:03, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- ...or not :-) Frank | talk 20:21, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
- Is that the final verdict, or does it go to the NY Supreme Court? If the former, does Ravitch's term of office get back-dated? or does he need to be sworn-in (again)? GoodDay (talk) 20:25, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
- I would not presume to know if the legal eagles are done, but the New York Court of Appeals is the end of the line for state appeals in NY. The ref says he is now the Lt gov. What happens next...who knows? Frank | talk 20:28, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

- It is. The Supreme Court includes the Trial Division and the Appellate Division. The Court of Appeals is the court of last result. I'm surprised they went all the way. I thought they'd either say the appointment was invalid or that the senators had no standing. -Rrius (talk) 20:30, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

- A few are exceptions. See Supreme court#United States. -Rrius (talk) 20:42, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
- I see. Just curious, is there any legal possibilites for the NY Republicans to take the case to the US Supreme Court? I'm guessing there's not, as the US SC can't make rulings over just 1 state (but can over more then 1 state). GoodDay (talk) 20:45, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

If they could make a case that the ruling is against the US Constitution, yes. My understanding is that would be regardless of the number of states involved; once they make a ruling, it affects all states. However, since the US Constitution leaves powers it doesn't already enumerate to state governments, I think this would be a difficult case to make. And, I'm not an attorney in any way, shape or form. Frank | talk 21:04, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
- There's no obvious federal question here. It is a New York court's interpretation of New York's constitution and statutes. -Rrius (talk) 21:16, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
- Well the NY Democrats won this fight & its appears the Massachusettes Democrats about to win theirs. GoodDay (talk) 22:02, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
- I wouldn't be surprised to see the New York law changed, though. I'm not sure New York Democrats really like the decision, either, but they'll take it since it protects them against just one Democrat defecting. Now that they have a Democrat in place as Lt. Gov., why not change it. -Rrius (talk) 22:07, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
- Indeed, as the same scenerio could a occur under a Republican Governor. It's likely the State Constitution will be eventually amended, to call for Senate approval of future LTG appointments. GoodDay (talk) 22:22, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
- Especially when Paterson's numbers are so bad and he shows no signs of dropping out. This guy really needs to be made United States Ambassador to the Federated States of Micronesia. I kind of feel sorry for New Yorkers. -Rrius (talk) 23:53, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

- Indeed, as the same scenerio could a occur under a Republican Governor. It's likely the State Constitution will be eventually amended, to call for Senate approval of future LTG appointments. GoodDay (talk) 22:22, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
Three O'Clock High
I remember having seen that film back in 1988. It was funny. Strange, I had been thinking about that film a few days ago.....--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 18:04, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
- Jeepers, Revell sure gave me the cold chills. GoodDay (talk) 18:08, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
He didn't like it when anyone touched him!--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 14:30, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
- Apparently, he was a virgin. GoodDay (talk) 14:32, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
I'm not surprised to hear that!!!!!--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 14:36, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
- Jumpers, Mitchell certainly attracted the women. GoodDay (talk) 14:38, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
Remember the girl who wanted to bond with him? LOL.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 14:57, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
- Wowsers, was I peeved about that; I waited for the sex scenes & then she chickened out. Even Jerry was confused. GoodDay (talk) 15:02, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
It's normal, GoodDay for women to back out in the eleventh hour.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 15:35, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
- From a selfish male-PoV, it's cruel. GoodDay (talk) 15:37, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
It's a woman's perogative to change her mind. Females usually back out due to it being the wrong time of the month (ovulation), or more likely to something the guy did or said which turned her off. Such as farting, having a hideous organ, or talking about a sexy ex-girlfriend.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 15:42, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
- Jeepers, the ovulation & farting is understandable. GoodDay (talk) 15:49, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
So are the other two things I mentioned.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 15:52, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
- I suppose a gal doesn't like a piano in the bed-room (just kidding). As for the ex-stuff? I thought gals luved competition. GoodDay (talk) 15:56, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
If a guy mentions another girl at the crucial moment of impact it indicates that he's thinking of her not the woman he's about to have it off with; therefore it stands to reason that the guy is just using her to get his rocks off and not because he really, truly fancies her. No woman likes to be a substitute for another.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 04:32, 20 September 2009 (UTC)
- 'Tis true, that's why I'm a 1-gal guy. I just can't devide or pretent my emotions. GoodDay (talk) 15:08, 20 September 2009 (UTC)
Bad things happen to those who fail to draw the line. I also opt for monogamy as it's by far the safest and sanest route to take.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 12:05, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
- The potential for VD, is a good motivator for monogamy (not to mention AIDS). GoodDay (talk) 17:44, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
And paternity suits. What goes with a maternity dress? Answer: A paternity suit LOL.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 14:08, 25 September 2009 (UTC)
- He he, now that's a knee slapper. GoodDay (talk) 14:09, 25 September 2009 (UTC)
Why thank you, I just made it up.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 14:11, 25 September 2009 (UTC)
