NetObjects, Inc.
Can you visit the NetObjects, Inc. article again? It was tagged as advertising. I made some changes to meet the complaints. What is your opinion? --Peter Eisenburger 11:18, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
- Who is able to place an advert-tag? --Peter Eisenburger 06:20, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
- Considerating your advice I did some further editing. However I wanted to keep the numbers because that's what people want to know about a company.--Peter Eisenburger 07:35, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you for your help. So, I can go on writing more articles ;) --Peter Eisenburger 09:21, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, I make it in a row ;) NetObjects Fusion will be the next article due in autumn 2006. I already have some pieces and images also. Probably after that I will go on with a smaller article covering Rae Technology as the "missing link" between Apple and NetObjects. --Peter Eisenburger 06:37, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
Great! Thank you for your time and your work. I know I uploaded before proof-reading, but I wanted to take the space of that article before someone else, because I already invested a lot of time. Additional proof-readings by 2 people for factual errors and better English will take place though - although English probably cannot be improved after your corrections ;). Last week a friend who teaches English literature at the University came with quite some corrections on the NetObjects, Inc. article - mainly prepositions.
As you might have noticed my mother-tongue is German and I use it in a more secure way than English. For instance the chapter "Texte" in this article is completely written by me. However, IMO overall quality of English Wikipedia is better and it is more of a challenge to me.
The next article/s? I guess I have to change the red links into blue ones ;). In other words: fill gaps. The very next article will be "Rae Technologies", the (in Wikipedia) missing link between Apple and NetObjects. I will run into problems there, because most of the sources on "Rae" lie buried down in print archives. Accessible material will do for a short article, which will easily get tagged with a stub-banner. On the other hand original research - which I could do in this case - is not allowed which I see as one of the problems of Wikipedia. --Peter Eisenburger 08:12, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
RE: Your Message To Me

Exact how are links to photo galleries of the subjects in question considered "commercial links or links to your own private websites"? There is no "advertising" involved, as you claim, as the links indeed point to photo galleries of the subjects involved. None of these galleries are my own personal websites. In fact, I am being very generous with my free time in even adding these links in the first place. I am doing this for the sake of helping out other people who may be interested in seeing more photos on the subjects in question. I gain absolutely no benefit from the work that I'm doing, other then the "good feeling" of knowing that I'm helping others. I am not hurting Wikipedia, or anyone else. Quite the contrary, I'm trying to make Wikipedia better. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.161.184.226 (talk • contribs)
- While I appreciate your enthusiasm for adding to Wikipedia, I don't think the links were proper as they were to a file upload service who account owner was a commercial website. The photos themselves are of questionable legal standing. You adding it to the top of the External links sections didn't help matters either. -- Gogo Dodo 06:57, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

List of photographers
Thank you for your repeated deletion of unsuitable content.
Unfortunately, the average article-worthy photographer has an article that isn't worthy of them, or of course no article at all. If you're into additions as well as (very helpful) removals, do please consider "adopting" a photographer. (And of course there are some very dubious photographer articles too. A lot might be PRODded for vanity or lack of verifiability or both. Actually I have one in mind right now.....) -- Hoary 07:15, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
- This user is a recent changes patroller. Whew, you're a tougher (wo)man than me. I used to patrol new pages, but cumulatively, over time, the degree of vanity and puffery made me depressed about the human race.

Your message to me
Hello, I am new to Wikipedia and have added some links to bank pages on Wikipedia. You commented that the links were in violation of the external link policy. The website to which I have linked, myBank.com, provides listings for every branch in the U.S., free of charge.
As I understand the policy, the links satisfy multiple categories of proper Wikipedia links. Specifically, the links, which link directly to branches of banks with Wikipedia pages, provide "neutral and accurate material" and "meaningful, relevant content". Moreover, there is no attempt to profit from the user. The website does not require registration or include advertising. And, the site is accessible, useful, and tasteful. The data is correct, is based on FDIC data, and is updated to ensure its substantive longevity. Furthermore, in an attempt to be a good Wikipedia "citizen", (1) the links I included directly link to the relevant bank's branches (thereafter, a user can narrow the list as desired); and (2) I have always put these links after the official link of the bank. Finally, I thought I was being helpful by making the link very clear: "Find this bank's branches on myBank.com."
I welcome your feedback, as I have every intention of being a good wikipedia "citizen". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.208.193.24 (talk • contribs)
- The problem with your added links is that it provides no additional content that the official bank sites do not already provide. While I applaud your wanting to contribute to Wikipedia, I don't think this was a proper addition. -- Gogo Dodo 04:12, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

User:24.196.119.219 has removed the "Controversy" section from the Peg Lautenschlager article again after you warned him about doing that. I have reverted his most recent edits. --TommyBoy 03:09, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
I just read your reply and I agree that it appears to be "whitewashing". Unexplained removal of properly-sourced or insertion of poorly-sourced negative information in U.S. politicians biographies by anonymous users seems to have become a major problem on Wikipedia. I have previously had similar problems when editing the articles on Mitch Daniels, Jo Ann Emerson, Claire McCaskill, and Jan Schakowsky. --TommyBoy 05:35, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

template: Infobox cityma1
Hello: I was having trouble with the town MA template accepting both the city manager and mayor, as well as recognizing the city council info. Since Worcester has a manager council form of government, I thought the template may be appropriate for other cities with that plan of municipal govt. I couldn't get the townma template to show all three offices. All important to show in council manager city goverments. I copied the townma template and added/changed so it would work. I hope that works for you. Let me know if you can suggest an alternative.

- I am not intentionally destroying your work. I checked the Pietarsaari article and there was no mention of the PRS abbreviation anywhere, so I removed the reference. My Last Warning!
Sir, I am not inserting Sapm links and take exception to your accusation.
As per the External Links guidelines point number 5 I am adding my website because it contains other meaningful, relevant content that is not suitable for inclusion in an article.
I wonder if you have taken the time to even look at my site?
I understand your concern because I have added my site to a lot of articles within a short space of time, but I assure you the link is not spam.
I respectfully request that I be allowed to add my site, which is no different from 90% of the other external sites listed, to the articles where your readers would benefit.

- See point 3 of Wikipedia:External links#Links normally to be avoided. Adding links to your own website is bad form. -- Gogo Dodo 02:25, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
I have read that point but the reason is for neutrality and point-of-view concerns. My site contains additional resources and in no way contrdicts the content of the article. To say you can't add a link because you are the owner of the website is ridiculous. -- PlanetPhillip 14:57, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

Help requested
Hi
I'm writing to you - and others - because you are one of several people who appears to have experienced the same thing as I have noticed and experienced.
Namely a pattern of vandalism by an anonymous user. The IP # is 66.229.10.64
See this user's talk page: http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User_talk:66.229.10.64
This user has been temporarily blocked several times. I notice that the pattern is the same.
The person doesn't seem to respond to polite community requests to engage in dialogue - or to desist from repeatedly making edits that several editors consider to be vandalism.
I am not that experienced in these matters but can there be an attempt made to block this user permanently? Or at least for a period of time so that the person gets a message about respecting the community. Thanks. Davidpatrick 03:23, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks - I found your name on the vandal's talk page. You were someone who had expressed frustration with him/her on that page. Davidpatrick 06:01, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Premarital Sex Merge
According to the Wikipedia rules:
Merging is something any editor can do, and if you are sure that something should be merged, you can be bold and do so. If the merge is controversial, however, you may find your merge reverted, and as with all other edits, edit wars should be avoided.
If you are uncertain of the merger's appropriateness, you should propose it on the affected pages. After sufficient time has elapsed to generate consensus or silence (at least 5 days), you may perform the merger or request that someone else do so.[1]
The last comment was in September which means the discussion has been in silence for "at least 5 days". All the information on the page was referring to topics discussed in the article "fornication" and both fornication and premarital sex used the practically the same definition:
Premarital sex is sexual intercourse engaged in by a person or persons who are not yet married.
Fornication is a term which refers to any sexual activity between consenting unmarried partners.
The information is already merged so it is duplicated unless the redirection is in place...do you really want duplicate information floating around wikipedia? Pbarnes 06:00, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

why do you keep deleting my image of the plush hobbes on the calvin and hobbes page? you dont OWN the page, everyone has the right to add to it, my addition was requested due to the outpour of requests by the calvin and hobbes fans on the website. they requested that it be posted on wikipedia's C&H page so everyone has access to viewing the rare collectable. This is the ONLY plush hobbes doll ever created by anyone, and the fans would like it posted, because a Hobbes plush doll is something every fan of the comic strip would like to own, but can't due to the fact none have ever been made. So can you please leave the image alone.. it has a small caption and it's not hurting anyone and i haven't changed anything on the page other than a small photo of the rare toy. thanks.
I contacted the Wikipedia admins and they said my hobbes photo IS appropriate for the page. They said i have every right to post this item.

Oddly, it seems there is a legitimate reference to Arthur Livingston Kelley (google finds him as "A. Livingston Kelley"), from the same author, misspelled, at Arthur Livingston Kelly Nature Center which was merged to Camp Yawgoog. Apparently there was such a person, a preservationist active in Rgode Island education, involved with this kids' camp external link here. Maybe the author went to camp there and felt like inventing this nonsense? Fan-1967 19:48, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Hey Gogo, sorry for the late reply. I did notice those edits regarding that editor and I discovered some age related information on Google. Disasterous Page Moving
It would seem I've made a rather big error with regards to User:Merebear7373. She made a page which (since it began with Meredith) I thought was intended to be her bio. So I moved it to User:Meredith Tolan instead of User:Merebear7373 and also Meredith Tolan. I'm not even sure if it's a genuine bio so perhaps I made both moves for nothing. Sorry for the messup. Would it be better if I just brought up the >{{subst:nn-userfy}}> instead of moving the page? I feel I should do that since I don't think I'm able to tell when it's a genuine bio and when it isn't. -WarthogDemon 05:27, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Take a look at WP:3RR, you'll see it says;
“ | In general, reverts that, in the judgement of the reviewing administrator, are reverts of simple, obvious vandalism (e.g. graffiti, link spam) are not considered to be contentious. | ” |
I see your point, but strictly speaking what the user is doing is not vandalism. Don't fear as if he does it again breaks the rule before yourself (I have warned him) - but as it isnt "simple obvious vandalism" it's a grey area. You certainly wouldnt be blocked by me - but, others may see it otherwise. Does this help? Glen 00:52, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, pal.
Glad to do it. I swear, I cannot for the life of me figure out why people can't have a bit of self-control when editing here. They do an experiment once, fine. It comes back, not so fine. No wonder I've personally left this project on several occasions. It's just too nutty sometimes. OTOH, it gives me an opportunity to try out this new laptop! I've discovered editing this site via a touch pad really sucks. :) Thanks again for the nice words. Signing off for now since it's late here. Take care. - Lucky 6.9 07:32, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

- If you accept my nomination, I will go ahead and create the page. =) I hope you will accept my offer, as I believe you'd make a fine admin. Nishkid64 18:24, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
- I think you'll be fine, but I have one suggestion. Try going back to WP:AfD and participate in a few more AfD's to garner some more experience and to show others that you are capable of handling admin tools. I'm currently making your RfA page, and I'll let you know when I'm done with my nomination. Nishkid64 18:27, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
- Aite it's ready. Read the admin how-to guide (WP:ARL and WP:AHTG), accept the nomination, answer the questions, and put the RfA on the RfA mainpage when you're done. If you have questions regarding the RfA itself, see WP:GRFA. Like I said before, participate in some AfD's, keep making article contributions, and I think everything will flow smoothly. I think there should be no worries about your experience on Wikipedia, since I was able to pass the RfA with less than 3 months experience. I wish you best of luck, and I will contact Lucky 6.9 and ask if he wants to co-nominate you. Nishkid64 18:34, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
- And here are some tips: If someone sees a mistake, admit them. Remember to be civil at all times, and if you get oppose votes, please don't respond to each one of them. Some people, including myself, think that the user is insecure of himself if he/she feels the need to respond to every single user's opposition. Do some AfD's, vote in a few RfA's, make some article contributions, etc. I think you'll be fine. Nishkid64 18:38, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

User 60.226.214.5
I just noticed you warned this anonymous editor awhile back. I added an identical warning just now (except it was a different page - Professional Wrestling in Australia) for adding a promotion that is drug afflicted (the user ignored my previous revert and reference to the talk page). On this occasion that I just reverted they also added a link to a local promotional site which is dangerously biased. It is possible judging by the location of the IP that the external link addition may have been vanity based (that is - it could be one of the three owners). Might be an idea to keep an eye on this IP. With the edit on the Wild On! page already against them they may be facing a block but I haven't added it just yet. Curse of Fenric 21:30, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
- I don't know about that (what you said on my talk page). The edits on Professional wrestling in Australia were almost identical. As in the promotion being added. It could be two different people, but that fits because two of three owners of the website that was added are a couple. It can't be the third (unless he's changed his ISP). I'm really keen to protect Wikipedia from an Adelaide based political wrestling war, and adding these links and promotions don't help. That's why I removed them to begin with. It's a potentially nasty situation because there are some complete idiots on the scene in Adelaide. Curse of Fenric 06:57, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Content Dispute?
I'm just curious. I requested that a user with the IP address '68.5.242.136" be banned, but it was denied as it was called 'content dispute.' I have to ask why. This guy was banned twice before for doing the same exact thing on the Evernham Motorsports article and similar thing on pages like Erin Crocker and Ray Evernham, in the past. Now, to be honest, I've dealt with this guy since this past summer. I disagreed with an entry of his and edited it. He reverts it back and calls it a conspiracy. I have to ask, on what grounds do you call this a 'content dispute' over vandalism? Thanks. Captain Spyro 21:13, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
- I appreciate the response, but even after reading the 3RR policy, I can't really say that the user is violating that rule or not. In the past day, he reverted it three times and has done it twice for today. If this continues, then I will report him on that. However, that didn't answer my first question. The user was abnned for the same stuff that he is doing now, so why is he being treated differently here? I don't mean to offend and that is not my goal, but I would appreciate an answer here. Thanks. Captain Spyro 21:47, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

I want to thank you for the neutral and professional way you handled the request by Captain Spyro to get me blocked. You were easily able to see that it was not vandalism, but rather an attempt to use the words in the court filed affidavit, and in the New York Times as the best sources for readers to understand the situation.68.5.242.136
Uncertainty With Notability
I should like your opinion in wondering if these pages are notable enough alone, or if some/all should be changed into redirects for the respective band:
They were recently (and intentionally since I created them) put up for AfD by a confirmed abusive sockpuppet. After the sockpuppet was blocked, the afds were removed. However since some valid points of notability were made, I wonder if these should at least be changed into redirects. (The two other members seem to have enough going for them in terms of notability.) Personally I think they all should remain though my view is biased after the sockpuppet, so I'd like a third party to decide for me. -WarthogDemon 22:20, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
- Does the band at least meet the requirements? I know it is bare bones, but I've seen other bands that have been just as small as them on here that haven't been contested. (Though granted those have appeared on charts.) I do know of one chart they did hit, but unfortunately there's no record of that so it'd my saying it would probably be considered original research. I pretty much started this article after asking User: Lucky 6.9 if it seemed notable. He said he was surprised there wasn't an article on them, and he hates non-notable band articles. You're the second admin I've asked an opinion on. The first one said the band barely meets requirements and redirects might be good. Should I ask Lucky and break the tie? -WarthogDemon 07:22, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
- Well that source would be a small public music video station that used to be on up until about 5 - 7 years ago. Innosense made a video for their song "Say No More" which, if I'm remembering right, was #6 of the Top 10 requested for a while. Though the station is long gone and sold, and even the site has disappeared. The only actual record of it would be in my notebooks where I liked to list the top ten. : / -WarthogDemon 03:30, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

I don't know what to do. I flagged an image for copyright violation, no admin is deleting it and the users of the photo continue to re-include it in their articles. Would you please investigate this issue. Image:OfficialPhoto.jpg Alan.ca 06:37, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
- The thing with this image, as I understand it, is that an editor received an email stating that this photograph was free to use for any purpose, and then pasted that email on the image description page. This isn't what is supposed to happen -- such emails should go to permissions AT wikimedia.org, where we archive them, and a member of the OTRS team tags the image as confirmed. That said, the last time I got involved with the image issue at the Stephen Harper article it was unpleasant enough that I'd rather address just about any other image copyright issue than that one. If we are going to revisit that image issue again, and, yes, technically we probably should, I really suggest that some other admin do it. Jkelly 02:17, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

They denied my request for semi-protection. I guess we are on our own for now with the old p+r (patrolling & reverting). I think the attacks will have about a couple more hours to go at the worst. The West Coast affiliates of NBC are still airing this movie, along with Alaska's and Hawaii's. Arbiteroftruth 04:59, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

You caught me. oO You've been on my watchlist for some time now. :) -WarthogDemon 07:57, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
FYI, I'm looking at recreating (and totally overhauling) the Da Chen article you deleted. In the state it was in, I was mulling over deleting it myself, but after Googling Da Chen, it appears he's actually a published author who's done some reasonably notable things, so I'm going to try to slap together a stub, provided I can find enough worthwhile content. - Turns out the original page wasn't just cheesy; it was copyvio: here's the source for the "heart filled with hope" (a line I won't be using in the rebuild). Cheers, JDoorjam Talk 19:29, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Cars
I just did major shortening of the plot summary of Cars (film), and I'd just like someone to check it over to see if I haven't overdone it or if I should cut down on more. How's it look at the moment? I'm also considering making a separate article for the cast. (I thought about doing another page for the references but didn't as the created page would probably get an AfD for fancruft.) Would the cast page be a good idea however? -WarthogDemon 10:01, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for suggestions. I've mentioned them in the talk page. Regarding List of Cars characters, I'm currently going and fixing up spelling/grammer (this article is peppered with typos) and I was wondering: Would it be acceptable for me to get rid of all gender, unless there is definite proof that a car is a male/female? -WarthogDemon 01:39, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the Barnstar!
I really appreciate that Gogo! Fortunately they never stick. I see it as just a bunch of drivel written on a computer screen :P...Thanks again.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 06:29, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
WelcomeBot
I noticed you welcome noobs. I am doing research in prep for the welcomebot trail in order to establish some facts on new user trends. Please can you have a look at Category:WelcomeBotResearch. I would appreciate your involvement. Also so as to assist, please can you sub your welcome template with {{welcome123}} which includes that category. Thanks. frummer 02:21, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
- Collect users who where welcomed with our templat, embdd n the template is the category.
- Analyze the users to see what the success rate is, i.e. do they contribute, vandlise etc.
- Write the welcome bot if the success rate is good.
- If the sucess rate isnt good, push for a welcome page to apear to every new user.
Thats simple enough. frummer 06:55, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
- I was involved in that request, yes. I was put forward by an indef blocked member. It has been implied to me by a sysop on the bot team that the welcomebot has a good chance to run if i know more about its affects. this is why I'm trying to research these affects before making the request as apposed to your suggestion, which would be preferable if many user wouldn't be worried about the negative aspects of welcoming all members. From what I can see so far, more than 60% of all welcomed users haven't contributed at all. This I couldn't have known without this little research stint. I'm still keeping watch though, there are a few who forget the account they create and crate the same one from the same IP over and over again, without engaging in vandalism. Also so far more than 15 users have requested adoption. There are many more aspects I will write in the report. frummer 19:46, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
