Welcome to Wikipedia, and apologies

[edit]

Hi, welcome to Wikipedia; normally there's some "welcoem templates" but other editors are more familiar than I with them and hopefully one will come by and place one, as they contain links to various helpful pages such as WP:MOS, WP:AUTO, WP:What Wikipedia is not, WP:NPOV, WP:OWN and more - WP:Good faith and WP:Be bold are worth reading - you defintely "were bold" but there are limits to how that works.... I dropped by because I saw your edits to the Potlatch article and was forced to reverse them - please see my explanation on that article's talkpage. Please do not be dismayed or offended; it's just that major changes should be dsicussed on the talkpage first so that drastic changes to an article do not prompt an edit war, and also so that one point of view does not override others. I invite you to join {{NorthAmNative}} (WikiProject Indigenous peoples of North America]] and also {{WikiProject Canada}} and {{WikiProject British Columbia}}. Indigenous contributors and editors are greatly needed to improve and expand Wikipedia's coverage of indigenous-content articles, and also to help kibbitz on other articles where indigenous history/culture is mentioned or described or otherwise involved (e.g. History of the west coast of North America to name one of many). Anyway, please stay and learn the ropes, your presence is greatly appreicated, it's just that Wikipedia has a certain "editorial culture" and innumerable guidelines and conventions, as well as styleguide issues such as how to add citations preoprly and more. I and other active editors are always around to help out oradvise, adn we're all interested in improving content/coverage and makign sure additions are done properly so that they will survive edits/actions by contributors/admins from far afield who have the power and do use it to remove unwarranted materials, or improperly cited or phrased materials; easeir to confer first, then act in consesus. Took me a while to learn too, and it's not always easy to be patient; but the goal is a comprehensive encyclopedic article that doesn't reflect biases and includes alll valid points of view....Again, welcome and apologies, and please stick around - "we" need you.....Skookum1 (talk) 16:38, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're also welcome to create your own userpage about who you are and what your interests are; mine's pretty awful but see user:OldManRivers for inspiration (or user:Phaedriel, though Phaedriel - a Cheyenne and until she went on WP:wikibreak teh doyenne of the indigneous project, and a very wise contributor and admin - is not longer all that active due to maternal "leave"....Skookum1 (talk) 16:40, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Later today or tomorrow, I'm going to try and integrate the information you added/overrode into the article "properly"; I didn't have time to read it in detail, and there's lots in that article that needed improving/rewording/expanding anyway. I think you['ll find once I'm done, or maybe OldManRivers or another editor adds their two bits, that most of your inforamtion is there; just not in a way that derides or downgrades other information, and where the cites are all properly done; if you can provide full publication data on your sources, print or web or otherwise, taht would be great. Dustin (OldManRivers) has been able to cite things taht are only in teh Squamish Nation libary, for instance; see [[WP:Reliable sources} for more information on what kinds of sources are valid; there's a lot of latitude for stuff like oral history, so long as such is available in trasncribed, if not published form; jsut verifiable somehow even if only on an obscure bookshelf somewhere or in an out-of-print book or paper.....Skookum1 (talk) 16:52, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Shannon Thunderbird

[edit]

I have nominated Shannon Thunderbird, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Shannon Thunderbird. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. License tagging for File:S&S4 TU.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:S&S4 TU.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 17:05, 17 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Photo of Shannon Thunderbird.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Photo of Shannon Thunderbird.jpg, which you've sourced to http://www.shannonthunderbird.com/creation_stories.htm. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 20:12, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
