[edit]@Girth Summit: Hi! Congrats on becoming an admin! I just wanted to let you know that I probably won't be able to edit or do anything on WP until Monday or Tuesday because of life. :) Just wanted to let you know that I am not inactive, I just need to address a couple real life things right now before doing stuff here. Thanks! Puddleglum2.0👌 02:00, 27 October 2019 (UTC)
Note
[edit]@Girth Summit: I was reverting vandalism and came across this IP [1], who had been persistently making disruptive edits, so I reported it to AIV, and it got blocked for two years. That was the right thing to do, correct? :) Thanks as always, Puddleglum2.0👌(talk) 21:37, 7 November 2019 (UTC)
- Puddleglum2.0, hi - yes, you did the right thing. The admin who reviews your report will take into account previous disruption, previous blocks, etc., before they decide how to respond - I haven't looked into it deeply, but this IP must have been causing nuisance for a while to attract a two-year block. The way you should see it is if you make a report to AIV, and the IP or account is blocked, you did the right thing. If you make a report, and the subject is not blocked, it doesn't necessarily mean you were wrong to report - it's sometimes worth getting a second opinion, and a report to AIV will get experienced eyes on a situation quickly. If 9 out of 10 reports you raise were declined, obviously that would be an issue, but I'd much rather patrollers err on the side of caution and raise reports than otherwise. Rollback?
[edit]@Girth Summit: Should I try to get rollback? It seems extremely helpful, but I don't know if now would be the best time to do it, so I just wanted to ask you before I applied. I do meet all the requirements. Thanks, Puddleglum2.0👌(talk) 03:48, 10 November 2019 (UTC)
- Puddleglum2.0 I'd suggest you hold off on requesting rollback, just for a bit. It's part of the CVUA course content, and we'll cover it soon - once we've done that part of the course, I'll recommend that you make an application, and will note my support in your request. (I could give you the permission myself, but since we're doing the course together I'm slightly involved, so I'll support you and allow another admin to review and grant the right). It's not necessary for the time being, Twinkle gives you all the tools you need - to be honest with you, I rarely use rollback myself, I generally find the Twinkle tools more convenient. The good thing about Rollback is access to Stiki and Huggle, but you don't need them for the course. GirthSummit (blether) 12:36, 10 November 2019 (UTC)
