You've done just great! Sorry for the delay in replying...I got caught up with something. Also, if you can write in Malayalam, I invite you to the Malayalam wikipedia too. Check it out at: ml.wikipedia.org. Hope you enjoy being here, and that you'll contribute to a wide rage of articles! -- thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu_Joseph |TALK 04:46, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! That line was added by an annoymous user, and since nobody was watching the page, it went unnoticed. I've removed the sentence, since it was obvious that it was vandalism. You should be BOLD (click the link), and jump in to edit. It is possible to revert to previous versions of the article any time (See Help:Reverting ). So dont worry at all about making mistakes. Keep up the good work! Cheers! -- thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu Joseph |TALK 16:15, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To be honest, I'm not sure if science-stub was the way to go. Come to think of it, I think there's an oceanography-stub. I think I will use that one instead. Thanks for the help. It's always good to have a second (or third or fourth...) pair of eyes take a look at stub-sorts. Have a great day and happy editing! Amalas =^_^= 02:31, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Stub sorting at EAMCET

[edit]

The article you sorted as "India-university-stub". But it is an examination conducted by an indipendant body, the merit list which is taken into account by all the universities. So it should not be university stub logically. I searched for an exmination stub or something of that kind but could not find it. so I left it as is. Can you suggest as solution? -(Huntscorpio 16:17, 5 June 2006 (UTC))[reply]

I will have to agree that India-university-stub is probably not the way to go. As far as I know, there is no "examination" stub or anything like that. Probably the best you can do is double-stub it with both {{edu-stub}} and {{India-stub}}. Amalas =^_^= 17:20, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Anirudh

[edit]

I'm basically from Andhra Pradesh, currently in B.Tech 4th year in E.C.E in JIIT, Noida. I'm a newbie myself. I registered some time earlier but I only edit on off when I'm free.

The current stub looks a lot better. Lets leave it as is for now and hope the article gets upgraded in the near future. --Harsha,17:47, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm...

[edit]

4th year I meant that I just completed my 3rd year. The placements are going on. Hope I'll get placed or I better pack my bags for MS. The college and Noida are cool enough. But the climate here is terrible - scorching summers & bizarre winters. Monsoon is literally non-existent. It rains when it feels like be it summer or winter.

Lets hope Wikipedia grows. It has come a long way when most of the articles are just stubs. Now any search on google yields a wikipedia article in its first page of search results - Now thats something isn't it?

You can contact me too, like ebooks or any tech related stuf if u want: hunt.scorpio@gmail.com -- Harsha, 18:27, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User page as stub

[edit]

no problem :) stub templates have an automatic category link in them so the page was listed in a stubs category. substing the template meant I could get at the cat link and take it out. hope you enjoy being a wikipedia editor! BL Lacertae - kiss the lizard 23:56, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Linking

[edit]

Hey Gingerjoos, I note you linking standalone year dates, such as in M.K. Thyagaraja Bagavadhar which I reverted. The Manual of Style says "Not every year listed in an article needs to be wikilinked. Ask yourself: will clicking on the year bring any useful information to the reader?". Hope this helps. Cheers. Moriori

I'm pretty much a newbie here. Perhaps a week old :-). Thank you for checking things out and reverting. I guess I must read the MoS more carefully. Happy editing! --anirudh 02:38, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No probs. You have been here less than two weeks and have two usernames. I'm intrigued. Moriori 06:35, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You don't necessarily have to cancel your edit. Most of the time, the other person changed something that is unrelated to your change, so you just have to put your change back in and save it. For example, say the article said this at first:

Bob is an awesome person. He is the coolest.

Then, you try to edit it to say:

Bob is a great person. He is the coolest.

However, when you do that, it comes up with an edit conflict. It should display the 'new' article, based on what the other person changed. Say it now looks like this:

Bob is an awesome person. He is the best.

Since the other person's change is unrelated to yours, you can go ahead and put your change back in and save it, so the article would then read:

Bob is a great person. He is the best.

I probably explained too much, but I like to err on the side of more detail rather than less.

Regarding the stub-sort, yes {{tv-bio-stub}} would be viable. I try not to double-stub in most cases, and also tv-bio-stub is a little confusing to me as it could mean a variety of things (news anchor, cameraman, show host, etc). You can go ahead and put it on there. It wouldn't hurt. I hope that I was able to answer your questions. Have a great day and happy editing! Amalas =^_^= 15:07, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Well, double-stubbing isn't bad, per se, but we prefer to use one stub that is the most accurate. For example, {{Germany-writer-stub}} is a lot better than using both {{Germany-bio-stub}} and {{writer-stub}}. It reduces clutter and allows for better categorization. A guideline from Wikipedia:Stub#Categorizing stubs says: When marking articles as stubs, please be as precise and accurate as you possibly can. It saves other editors a lot of work further down the road. If an article overlaps a number of potential categories, more than one stub template may be used, but it is strongly recommended that only those relating to the subject's main notability be used. I guess that doesn't really answer your question, because there's no real definite answer and each stub-sorter has slightly different opinions. Double-stubbing is generally okay, but not preferred, and triple-stubbing is generally frowned upon. Anything more than that is just ridiculous. =) Amalas =^_^= 15:23, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

ROWPU

[edit]

Hi! To answer your question; yes, the ROWPU was designed and made for military use. There are water treatment and desalinization plants around the world that use reverse osmosis, but the specific term Reverse Osmosis Water Purification Unit refers to the various devices that are used in the feild during military operations. I'm currently enlisted in the US Air Force as a Utilities Systems specialist (AFSC: 3E451) and one of my jobs is the setup, operation and maintainance of ROWPUs and contingency water distribution systems. I do know a bit more about them than is in the article, but I am by no means an expert as to their function or design. I'll add more to it in the future, but I'm hoping a real expert on the subject will take over. Thanks for the interest! Happy editing. :) Kajmal 04:37, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The wikipedia page doesn't explain it very well. The About.com Air Force Enlisted Job Descriptions and Qualification Factors page explains it much better. 3E4X1 is Utilities Systems. We deal with water and waste water and all the stuff that goes along with them. Treatment, storage, distribution, plumbing, waste water collection, sewers and waste water treatment.
3E4 are a family of careers that deal with fluids moving through pipes and containers that are NOT on aircraft. 3E4X2 deal with fuels and oils and the pipelines that carry them. 3E4X3 deal with pesticides and the containers and pipes that have to do with that. The 5 in my AFSC identifies me as a journeyman in my skill. When dealing with the general career field and not a specific skill, an X is used in place of the skill level identifier. Hope that explains it! :) Kajmal 21:06, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I had created stubs of almost all the schools and colleges in Kochi, at the time I put the Kochi article for a peer review. Great work expanding the article! Quizzing

[edit]

Hey, I noticed you mentioning that you were an avid quizzer. So undoubtedly you must be interested in the India Quiz on wikipedia. But beware, its very addictive. ;-) -- thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu Joseph |TALK10:04, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Most of the questions you will find in PINQ will be really complex. Its made so to avoid people from easily googling out the answers. I'm taking a look at the Kitu Gidwani article. Great work on it till now. We could use a filmogrphy template as used in Asin Thottumkal, I think. I dont think much can be done about the links, but perhaps we can convert the link on top [1] into a reference (using ref tags as detailed in WP:CITE). Lets see..-- thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu Joseph |TALK14:05, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've added the filmography templates. But they arent arranged in the choronological order. Actually, in the quiz, Gurubrahma (talk · contribs) says that she was the highest paid actress in India till 1990. If that is the case, then we might be able to get this page featured on the main page under the Did you know section. But before nominating, you should get a picture of the actress. Also, we need a reference for the claim that she is indeed the highest-paid model. Perhaps you can contact Gurubrahma (talk · contribs) and ask him for the ref? -- thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu Joseph |TALK14:37, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
(PS: Remember that this has to be done within 5 days of creation of the article per the rules of Did you know.)
No, that wouldnt matter in this case, I believe. Anyway, there is no harm in nominating. :-) -- thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu Joseph |TALK14:57, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm...you could perhaps mention that in a seperate "Trivia" section. -- thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu Joseph |TALK15:44, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kitu Gidwani

[edit]

Hi, great work! I'm not sure abt the source for the fact I mentioned on WP:PINQ because I read it many years ago. --Gurubrahma 16:58, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you can use that image in case no free use licensed ones are available. However without the ref, it cant make into DYK.  :( -- thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu Joseph |TALK14:05, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Anirudh, I think we should avoid putting those yahoo group links. Maybe we can have links to sites of different associations or clubs in MEC. That too links that will be of common interest, and not pertaining to a single class or batch. And what about putting a better photo of MEC. Sonyjose 06:33, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Message switching/to do

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Message switching/to do requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. re Ezra Pound

[edit]

I think I've read all of Pound's published poetry, and those lines aren't familiar. They certainly don't sound like Pound. Probably a misattribution by the poster to that message board, but I'll look into it further. Deor (talk) 15:08, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Aha! A Google Books search shows that these lines can be found in Collected Poems, 1930–83 by Josephine Miles, so I think it's safe to say that Miles is their author. The confusion seems to have arisen because the book Ezra Pound: A Collection of Critical Essays contains an essay in which Pound's "Alba" is (unfavorably) compared with Miles's poem. WikiProject India Newsletter Volume V, Issue no. 1 - (June 2010)

[edit]
Project News

WP:IND Newsletter is back! It's been nearly a year since the last edition, but we hope to bring out issues on a more regular basis now. The India Wikiproject was set up to increasing coverage of India-related topics on Wikipedia, and over the past few months the focus has been on improving article quality. A number of the project's featured articles underwent featured article reviews over the past year. Of these, Darjeeling and Flag of India survived the review process, while the rest were demoted. During the same period, Gangtok, Harbhajan Singh, Darjeeling and Mysore were featured on the main page respectively on August 20, September 17, November 6 and December 29, 2009. Meanwhile, articles on topics as diverse as Political history of Mysore and Coorg (1565–1760), Marwari horse and Iravan were promoted as featured articles, and respectively appeared on the main page on March 25, May 17 and May 28, 2010. Consequently, the number of FA-class articles under the project's scope dropped from 67 in August 2009 to 63 in June 2010. The number of good articles, however, saw a more than 40% increase, from 91 to 130 during the same period, while the number of featured lists saw a 33% increase from 12 to 16.

Due to the recent policy changes regarding unreferenced Biographies of Living People (BLPs), an effort was started in January 2010 to source all unreferenced BLPs coming under Wikiproject India. 1200 such articles were identified initially and more were added to the list later. Due to the sourcing effort, the number of Indian unreferenced BLPs is down to 565 currently. During February-April 2010, There was a large scale disruption of Kerala related articles by a Thrissur based IP vandal. Editing from a dynamic IP BSNL connection, the vandal changed dates of birth, death and ages of a number of Malayalam and Tamil film actors. Later he added a few international biographies to his list. He also marked some living people like Arvind Swamy as dead. A month long range block was imposed on his IP range two times and each time he came back to vandalise dates once the block expired. Currently the range has been blocked for three months till September 11, 2010.

WikiProject India Newsletter Volume V, Issue no. 2 - November 2010

[edit]
English WikiProject News

After a missed issue, the WP:IND newsletter is back on track to being a regular bimonthly feature. The Indian WikiProject has seen plenty of online and off-line action, both in English as well as other Indian languages, and we now have a bigger, better format that intends to feature content and news from the English as well as other Indian language Wikipedias.

Reaching out to Indians has been the theme of the Indian Wikiproject over the past couple of months, aiming to involve a greater number of Indians in editing both the English and Indian language Wikipedias. To this end, efforts to set up the Indian chapter of Wikimedia have moved into their final stages, and registration of the society is currently pending. An effort is underway to push for "WikiMarathons" at meetups, where attendees will be encouraged to edit the English and/or Indian language Wikipedias. This is intended to popularise Wikipedia editing among the general public. In addition, a bot to post DYK's from the Indian Wikiproject to Twitter was created and launched by User:Logicwiki.

What's New?

Regrettably, the number of Featured Articles has dropped from 63 in June to 58 at the end of October 2010. Several FAs came up for review and were delisted, while Fundamental Rights, Directive Principles and Fundamental Duties of India was saved. Meanwhile, Chalukya Dynasty appeared on the main page on July 9, 2010. Hearteningly, the number of Good Articles increased from 130 to 136 during the same period, while the number of Featured Lists remained constant at 16.

The source code for the Article Alert Bot is now available and the bot itself is expected to be up and running very shortly. This means that article alerts for the Indian Wikiproject will again be available, enabling editors to easily keep track of developments in respect of reviews, nominations, deletions etc.

The date change vandal mentioned briefly in the previous issue made a reappearance when the range block on his IP range expired in September. Consequently the block was extended till September 2011.

In October there was a heated discussion in the India project noticeboard regarding the copyright status of the Indian party symbols. The discussion was triggered by the deletion of Wiki San Roze's party symbol images by Hammersoft as copyright violations. No resolution was reached, partly because of our inability to explain to Hammersoft how election symbols in India differ from party logos. Comments are requested from anyone with a background in Indian copyright law to clarify this issue.

You may have noticed over the past few days that the MOTD that you link to on your user page has simply displayed a red link. This is due to the fact that not enough people are reviewing pending MOTDs here. Please help us keep the MOTD template alive and simply go and review a few of the MOTDs in the list. Motto of the Day Help Request April 2014

[edit]
Today's motto...

Wikipedia is loaded with opinions, but most are neutral.

Nominate one today!

Motto of the Day (WP:MOTD) is in a state of emergency and really needs your help! There are not enough editors who are reviewing or nominating mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review, and this probably means that you will notice a red link or “This space for rent” as our mottos for the next weeks and months.

Please take a moment to review the nominations and nominate your own new mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review and Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/'Specials. Any help would be appreciated! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 09:13, 29 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

The article Thrikkara Temple has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No information. barely one sentence.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
