Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Ginger1774. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies. Note that Wikipedia's terms of use require disclosure of your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. ☾Loriendrew☽ (talk) 02:41, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Thank you for your suggestions, Loriendrew. Is there something specific in the article that is bothering you that you would like me to remove? (Ginger1774 (talk) 03:51, 31 October 2014 (UTC))[reply]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles, or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion debates, as you did with Lisa Christine Holmberg. Otherwise, it may be difficult to create consensus. If you oppose the deletion of an article, please comment at the respective page instead. Thank you! Information icon Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion pages, as you did with Lisa Christine Holmberg. Doing so won't stop the discussion from taking place. You are, however, welcome to comment about the proposed deletion on the appropriate page. Thank you. Thank you for your comments, but I would like to know what is specifically bothering you in this article that you would like me to remove. I would like to keep this article on Wikipedia since I have put a lot of time into it and Lisa Christine Holmberg is a public figure and child actor with major credits. Thanks! About the removal of the "Article for deletion" template

[edit]

Hello Ginger1774. Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia, all the edits that are compatible with Wikipedia's guidelines are welcome! I'm not personally interested to the subject of the article, I'm writing this note to you only because I would like to prevent any further removal of the templates at the top of the article, which include the "Article for Deletion" (AfD) template.

Removing the template(s) makes the work of the community much harder and, when done on purpose, it's not considered a behavior respectful of the work of other editors. I've assumed that the two removals made by you have been done in good faith and by mistake. As a general guideline, a third "disruption" of the templates would not be considered good faith anymore, though, and the responsible editor can be blocked from editing the encyclopedia.

In my opinion the block of any editor is always a consequence of our human limits to understand each other. I hope that this note that I'm writing to you can clarify why it's important not to remove those templates.

About the Wikipedia's article that you are contributing to, I've not read it yet, but I think that the following two articles could greatly help you to understand a bit more some of the guidelines that every editor should follow: Notability of people, Ownership of articles. Happy editing! LowLevel73(talk) 06:18, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the advice! I'll take a look at those articles.(Ginger1774 (talk) 08:25, 31 October 2014 (UTC))[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Lisa Christine Holmberg, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here.
