Welcome

[edit]

Welome to Wikipedia, Gillean666. Thanks for the corrections on the Scottish mountain articles, you're doing a great proof-read! Grinner 11:10, Jun 15, 2005 (UTC)

Welcome as well

[edit]

Welcome!

Hello, Gillean666, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!  Flcelloguy Cello today? Give me a note! d.c. al fine? Desk 14:01, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

P.S. I also left you a note at the help desk, but here it is anyways: (BTW, to see an example of a piped link, click "edit" on this page and look at the help desk link) :)

Comment: By the way, it seems like you are manually typing in your signature, judging from the above signature with a semicolon between "User" and your user name. You can just insert three tildes ( ~~~ ) to insert your signature, or you can insert four tildes ( ~~~~ ) to insert your signature and the current date and time. The raw signature comes with a link to your user page! In addition, you may also customize your signature (like I did with mine) by going to preferences and changing your signature. Oh, just a note: My "pipe" (|) link is found to the left of the shift key on the right of the keyboard, not that it matters... Again, welcome! Flcelloguy Cello today? Give me a note! d.c. al fine? Lochan

[edit]

Hi, saw your question to User:Mac Duach. The answer is that the Scottish Gaelic spelling has no accent (lochan) while the Irish spelling does (lochán). I've added the Irish spelling in parentheses at loch. --Angr/tɔk mi 08:57, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Which Irish dictionaries did you check? Ó Dónaill's (the most comprehensive Irish-English dictionary available) has lochán with an acute. --Angr/tɔk mi 12:19, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Redirect to a non-existent page?

[edit]

Hello, I noticed you've changed the redirect at Eas-coul-Aulin to Eas a' Chual Aluinn, which is a non-existent page. If you intend to create that page (I'm assuming good faith), then there's no problem with that, but you should always create the actual page before the redirects to avoid confusion. - ulayiti (talk) 16:47, 17 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It's OK, I've done that myself not so long ago. Generally if you do something wrong here, someone will correct it in a few minutes (if not seconds...) anyway, so it's not such a big problem. :) By the way, you could use edit summaries to avoid the confusion a bit. - ulayiti (talk) 17:02, 17 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your welcome

[edit]

... feel free to vote for you favorite hill at Featured picture candidates :-)

By the way, are you familiar with the animals around there? I took pictures of some goats and a goose up there, somebody said the former were just plain Domestic goats. I'd like to put them into the right article...

Beinn Eighe

[edit]

Thanks for the info! The infobox has recently been changed, but I will change it back I think, and correct the caption. "Somewhere on the main ridge" was always a bit vague! Grinner 10:58, 10 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Signature

[edit]

Glad to see it's working now. By the way, have you considered putting [[Category:Wikipedians in Scotland]] on your user page? More amusing is what you can do with the babel box - try:

{{Babel-2|en-B|sco}}

RE: Kill Bill

[edit]

Hello, Why have you changed the spelling of Hanzo to Hanzō? Gillean666 08:17, 5 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Bleaklow

[edit]

I've rv'd your deletion of the links on Bleaklow for the time being. I wouldn't judge them to be spam. Please make a case contra on the talk page. Bob aka Linuxlad 23:24, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Given that you're pursuing the panorama issue separately, are you also still making a case for deleting the weblog site (which had been there for some time)

[edit]

FYI: I've reverted a couple of your deletions of a panorama external link on mountain articles. They don't strike me as spam at all - not commercial, not self-important, and they have interesting and unique information. - DavidWBrooks 02:55, 6 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Please reconsider!

[edit]

Please, Gillean. I can understand your motives in deleting all the panorama links - I admit that the website is trying to sell the things, and that my links linked to the main page of the website. In my opinion the panoramas are a really good thing, as DWB above says, they contain interesting and unique information. I thought it would be a nice touch to have on Wikipedia - concise, picture information about what you can see from the summit. I certainly did not intend the links to be 'spam'. Would you feel happier if I linked to the panorama pages themselves, so that the commercial information is not included? Then they wouldn't be spam, quite the opposite. Please think about this and reply on my talk page please. --Mark J 09:40, 6 November 2005 (UTC) (the person who put all the links in)[reply]

Not spam

[edit]

Although I am the author of the panorama site and creator of the panoramas, I had no part in the creation of the above mentioned panorama links. I too would like an explanation for your reversal and use of the word "spam". As Mark J says, a link to the actual panorama pages may have been better but this is a trivial matter because the venture is not commercial and the products advertised on the link are priced on the basis of costs of reproduction and no more. Also some of the panoramas do not download other than by following instructions on the general panoramas page. Jonathan de Ferranti, Fife, Scotland

  • Following Jonathan's comments above about non-commercialism & downloading, would it be all right to replace the links to the main panorama page or do you want me to just link to the panoramas themselves? Plase reply --Mark J 12:18, 6 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Eilean Donan

[edit]

Why did you delete the link to the panorama other than that there seem to be three similar pics on this page?--JBellis 17:14, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just for the record: the panorama image filtered by the user's adware blocker made him believe he was facing a dead link and thus some tidying up was called for.--Klaus with K 14:41, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi I put the link in to http://www.rampantscotland.com/visit/blvisitdonan.htm that you removed. I'm not connected to that website. I put it in not as spam but because I thought it was genuinely good information (a reproduction of a magazine article) and I was even thinking of adding some info from it to the main article. regards Aldaden 10:16, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kill Bill

[edit]

Please stop reverting the trivia about "My name is Buck" from Kill Bill. Just because it is crude doesn't stop it from being an accurate piece of trivia for the film. Thank you.--CyberGhostface 21:41, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cinema Paradiso

[edit]

Hi, just an update... I have studied the film, and it looks very distinctly like the women are smearing the boards with tomatoes. There are some baskets of the fruit that they are holding. But as to why they are doing it - I haven't yet found out. I've asked my half-Italian buddy and he's investigating for me.  SLUMGUM  yap  stalk   22:46, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Poll options on Fred Dibnah's birthplace

[edit]

I've started a poll on Talk:Fred Dibnah with four options for his birthplace area. As you've edited the main Fred Dibnah article, I'm letting you know about this Poll and the chance to vote one of the options. Cwb61 (talk) 00:07, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
