I saw that you replaced an archived external link in [Kaihogyo]]. Wikipedia suffers from the phenomenon known as link rot, where external links, often used as references and citations, gradually become irrelevant or broken, as the linked websites disappear, change their content, or move. This presents a significant threat to Wikipedia's reliability policy and its source citation guideline. A way to prevent link-rot is to use a web archiving service. Please see WP:LINKROT. Thanks JimRenge (talk) 09:57, 19 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ah yes, the webarchive is the unchanging link, I didn't know that, but indeed the magazine itself didn't link through to the old link as visible from the webarchive url. Their webdesigner never heard of http redirect ;-) Now let's sign underneath GigaGerard (talk) 10:56, 19 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I found a second problem: You changed this sentence: The ascetic monk must go for 9 days (216 hours) without food, water, or rest of any kind. (Rhodes, Robert F. (1987). The Kaihogyo Practice of Mt. Hiei, Japanese Journal of Religious Studies 14 (2-3), page 196) to 7,5 days. The source you gave in the edit summary is a blog which is a self-published website and not considered a reliable source source in WP. Please give a reliable source for your change (in the article, not in the edit summary). Thanks JimRenge (talk) 12:17, 19 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the book of John Stevens "Marathon Monks of Mount Hiei" is the source used in that blog, I have read the book myself which gives the exact number of hours as spread out over 9 days, but totaling about 7.5 days as I remember. Rhodes is not so precise. GigaGerard (talk) 12:22, 19 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The book reference is placed just above, I don't know how to reuse an existing reference. How would you do that Jim? (And if I should in this case with the other reference so near...) Lots to learn editing the Wiki. GigaGerard (talk) 12:28, 19 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Copy this: [1] change the page no and insert it at the end of the sentence. JimRenge (talk) 12:36, 19 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Good thing to give a reference there because it stays a point of confusion. The monks fasted over (they like to leave that "over" out) 9 days, total about 7.5 days (wish I had the book here). GigaGerard (talk) 12:54, 19 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
