A favour at DYK
Hi there, hoping you might be willing to help out with a small favour at DYK. I have just put up a dual-article nom for Currambena School and David Heilpern, near the top of the June 30 noms. I'm normally happy to let check process run its course, but have a specific reason to be keen to see this one resolved either way in the next day or two (I found out that this Sunday is the 40th anniversary of the founding of the school in question, and it is having a kind of open day and reunion to mark the occasion). Would you consider checking this DYK and tagging it as to whether it qualifies or has probs? I'd be grateful. hamiltonstone (talk) 00:46, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah sure no problem, after I review it, I'll throw it into the special holding area at the bottom of the page.--Giants27 (c|s) 01:06, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Riders Roster
The reason I left those players hidden, is that most CFL teams "release" players on paper. Bergquist and Wasilea (sp?) will continue practicing with the Riders and will either end up on the active roster or on the Developmental Squad again. I just figured for the ease of editing, we simply hide these players since they will be back. If you'd rather delete and readd them when the paper trail is reverted, that's fine. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 04:21, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
- Hmm...really? I actually didn't know that so if you want to readd them, go ahead.--Giants27 (c|s) 12:23, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah its a strange quirk of the CFL, where roster rules are skirted this way. I'd bet if you went to any CFL team's practice (which are all open to the public by the way) you'd probably find 3 or 4 players that are there that aren't listed on any official website. In previous years, I've shown these players on the Developmental Squad, but since the CFL seems to have rules regarding the DS, I'm not sure where to put them. However, I guess the reports of these players practicing, do not come from good sources even if they are eye-witness reports. There are some very loyal practice watchers that post at Riderfans.com that tend to keep us Rider fans abreast of these types of things. I mean some of them have contacts at the airport who find out about certain players being in town and whatnot. It borders on stalker behaviour at times. I tend to stick to the Riders' fan board, but I'd bet that all the teams' fan boards have reports like this. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 08:30, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
- The practice squad players are really free agents anyway. That's why they are released before being signed to practice roster. Any team can sign another team's practice squad player so long as they are actually signing him to play in the next game. The Riders fans are definitely the closest followers of team movements, in my opinion. DoubleBlue (talk) 17:20, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
- Practice roster players really serve no significance other than playing the roles of key players of the next opponent during practice. And I stick by my original action of removing Bergquist and Wasiela because even though they might be practicing with the team, many free agents do so keeping them listed just because they were on the pr, doesn't make sense. If they get re-signed then we'll readd them because the roster is really that a roster, so anyone not on it shouldn't be listed whether visible or not. But like I previously stated I have no problem with you hiding them even if I disagree with it.--Giants27 (c|s) 17:24, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
- Obviously, we cannot list released ps players as being on the roster. I don't have a big problem with commenting out players known to be coming back if it makes an editor's job easier but I don't want to clutter the template with a lot of code either. DoubleBlue (talk) 17:48, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
- If each player code was like the NFL/AFL roster templates codes, then I'd be all for it but the CFL player template is much easier to type in so I just don't see the need.--Giants27 (c|s) 17:52, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

(outdent)I noticed that the Riders' roster on [1] shows Cole Bergquist on the Developmental Squad as does the CFL's site, does he qualify or does the fact that officially he is released by the paperwork shuffle supercede this? In the past, I have always used the CFL's transactions in addition to the eyewitness of players still on the team. But if official documentation is how were are operating this year, what is the rule, which is considered official? Shootmaster 44 (talk) 10:01, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- I went by the CFL transactions page, but since he's listed and not Wasiela I'm inclined the say he's back.--Giants27 (c|s) 12:14, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- Let's go with the most recent verifiable information. There are times when updates on any on those sources lags behind. DoubleBlue (talk) 22:22, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- Agreed, it would be nice if some of these teams had something like Last update: 7/13/09 on there but what I always do is if the team had X player which according to the CFL transactions page he was released yesterday, I'll check the CFL website's listed roster since they were the ones to report he's gone. And haha, loved the edit summary, it always amuses me when these "people" decide its a good idea to vandalize.--Giants27 (c|s) 22:58, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Canvassing
You removed my message to you, writing that I was "canvassing". Would you please explain how I was canvassing you? Cunard (talk) 19:26, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
- You said that he now passes WP:BIO which is biased since you voted keep, also you stated that "it should be kept" which is also biased. You asked me to re-evaluate my vote, which I did but still.
Finally, you posted on two other talk pages which is considered "mass posting".--Giants27 (c|s) 19:31, 14 July 2009 (UTC)- (just noticed this while passing by) I don't think it's really canvassing. As far as I can tell, Cunard was posting only to people who had already been involved in the discussion, and posting to update them on issues they had raised before that he believes were addressed. Of course, you have the right to remove it from your talkpage if you like; I just wanted to clarify that I don't think Cunard has done anything wrong, either. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 19:36, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
- Didn't notice it was only to commenters on the AfD, thus I crossed out that point.--Giants27 (c|s) 19:38, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
- (e/c) My intention was not to canvass but to remind the users who voted "delete" that the AfD discussion was still ongoing. I didn't intend for my message to be non-neutral but it came out that way because I spent two hours rewriting Andy Michael. I didn't want the closing admin to close the discussion based on the delete votes of users who evaluated the article before sources were found. Posting three messages to users who are aware of the deletion discussion is not "mass posting", but we may have different viewpoints on the meaning of that phrase. Anyway, the next time I post messages notifying people about new developments, I will make sure that the messages are neutrally-worded. Cheers, Cunard (talk) 19:44, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah I get that, I do that myself sometimes but the non-neutral wording is what made me call it canvassing. Cheers, --Giants27 (c|s) 19:47, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Reserve List
I noticed your edit summary for Graham Harrell on the Riders roster. The reason he cannot be on the Reserve List, is that the Reserve List is an active list made up of the 4 players, who dress for the game as part of the 46 man roster, but are made ineligible to actually play in the game two hours before kickoff. Think of it like in hockey when a player is made a healthy scratch. As such, Harrell has not dressed for a game yet so he is cannot have been on the Reserve List. From the rumors I hear swirling, Justin Beaver has been released and Harrell will take his spot. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 07:22, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks I figured it was something like that but wasn't sure.--Giants27 (c|s) 12:47, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
Changing the navboxes heading to "Inactive list" is a darn good idea. As you know, I wonder about the labour involved in keeping them up-to-date and the reserve list in particular. Do you think that the reserve players could simply be left in the Active section? If, on the other hand, you don't think it's too much trouble to keep up-to-date, then I do suggest moving the Reserve list up to the second heading underneath Active since they are still on the Active Roster. Reserve list is really a subsection of Active like Injured list is of Inactive Roster. DoubleBlue (talk) 17:03, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
- The only real reason I keep active separate from reserve is because the CFL transactions page reports on it, and not a bad idea to move it under active.--Giants27 (c|s) 17:15, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

92nd Grey Cup template
Greetings to a fellow CFL fan! I discovered that someone created the template for the 92nd Grey Cup champion roster for the Toronto Argonauts. I subsequently added players who were members of the Argos onto the list, but were not dressed for the game. The Grey Cup inscriptions only include players that were dressed for the games as far as I know. That said, I wasn't sure if the criteria/convention for such templates were the same way. Can those players who were not dressed for the big game, but were still a member of the team, still be recognized on those templates? Amchow78 (talk) 02:03, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
