PROD warning

A PROD warning has been placed on article you created Dmitri Nikolayevich Smirnov (footballer) expressing concern over the lack of notability in the article other than he is a footballer. Please improve the article to save a possible deletion. Thanks The Bald One White cat 15:39, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You still haven't explained why he constitutes an encyclopedia article other than that he is a footballer. Do you think I don't know about WP:ATHLETE? We have thousands of such stubs on wikipedia which are just left in the same state with little expansion. Why is it necessary to have a biographical article on such players if they are not expanded? If you intend expanding them very soon OK but I have seen countless articles started and never edited again. The Bald One White cat 15:49, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Read Wikipedia:Citing sources. You must cite sources, even if just an external link The Bald One White cat 15:56, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thats exactly why it had a "PROD" rather than an AFD tag on it. Merely a gesture to try to encourage the editor to expand it a little. I dont mind covering world footballers providing they are expanded and don't remain as perma-stubs. Unfortunately many people start all the biographies of footballers but neglect them. I trust that you will expand them. Yes an external link is a must. Regards The Bald One White cat 17:10, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Andrei Smirnov

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Andrei Smirnov, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Information about Russian football player

Write your one guy from Russia. You create pages on the Russian players. This is of course well. But what you write does not complete and sometimes erroneous information. I know little English, no correct errors and do not write literary literate in English. Here you an example [1] The list of players for a first player Andrei Akimov DoB => 1890-10-12 - That is the true and real date of birth (12 October 1890)

Enjoying that you wrote on the site player [2] Andrei Aleksandrovich Akimov - Date of birth 1888

date of birth of no converge

Then you write Akimov made his debut for Russia on June 30, 1912 in a 1912 Olympics match against Finland, and scored a goal in that game ---- The latest word about goal - a lie.

Enjoying a protocol game [3] Finland - Russia Scorers: 1-1 Vasily Butusov (72)

Played for the Russian team in 4 games (scorer goal - 0) + Another game (unofficial) The roster of all team games Russia have a few games between national teams that registered by FIFA - both matches «A» commands. But few of these matches are not registered Russian Football Union. So, logically, FIFA, he played 5 games, according to the logic of Russian Football Union - in 4 games

my board you do not write off, all from Russian site http://www.rusteam.permian.ru The website provides data, taken from the Russian book, published in 1991. In subsequent years, in 1997, has been released another book, written by a little more. The author site , this book does not, he did not know that it is written More in Russia in Russian, no other books on the history of football is not published. So you have the data - seventeen years ago.

We have football statistics that are members of IFFHS [4] All they are and make life in the history of Russian football, they write and publish only in Western Europe. In modern Russia about this, no one knows and no one is not interested.

Here are today's editions. Book Reviews - [5] OLYMPIC FOOTBALL TOURNAMENTS 1908* 1912*1920* 1924* 1928* 1936. Published by the InternationalFederation of Football History and Statistics [IFFHS], Graf-von-Galen-Strasse 72, D-65197 Wiesbaden, Germany. Twovolumes, with resp. 184 [Volume 1] and 194 pages [Volume2]; written in four languages; English, Spanish, French andGerman. Price: DEM 45 per volume, plus DEM 8 for postage;for the two volumes DEM 90 and no postage. Hard coverand no ISBN number. Reviewed by Wolf Lyberg.Let me start with a confession. When our editor and ISOHSecretary-General (knowing my interest in international football)asked me to review these books, my first thought was:- Well, probably another of these many books made for ‘fast’money, containing a lot of well known facts and a lot of ‘exclusive’photographs. How wrong I was!Just opening the books for a first look made it say “click”, asit showed to be a completely different set of books as I hadexpected it to be.

If you find a look at another book IFFHS - Russia / USSR / Poland 1912-1940 Circulation is not big and books have long been sold throughout Europe. [6]

By the player's career - Andrei Akimov Played in matches in the competition - Championship Russian Empire in 1912 and 1913 - all 5 games. Finalist - Championship Russian empire 1912. In those years we played the game only to the city championship, each separately. The player is a champion of the city of Moscow 1910, 1911, 1912, 1913 years. player of the first international game of Russian football team Holstein Kiel, Germany (1912) and with a team from the University of Oxford (England) (1914).

Notability of Brian Dudley

A tag has been placed on Brian Dudley requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Kingpin13 (talk) 15:38, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Geregen2. Thanks for your work creating stubs on football players. When you create them, bear in mind that there may already be articles in other language editions of Wikipedia, and these articles should be linked to where they exist. This helps to build the web, make it clear to editors checking for gaps in coverage where they've in fact been filled, and above all helps readers to find out more information about the subject they're interested in if they're able to read in the available languages. For example, Dieter Ramusch has a good sized article in the German Wikipedia (de:Dieter Ramusch) and Robert Ibertsberger has articles in both German and Italian. When you create an article on a football player it's worth checking the most relevant language editions to see if there's an article there, and if there is, please link to it! See Help:Interlanguage links for more. Thanks. Rovaniemi-5 (talk) 17:27, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

National flags in Squad lists

Only one flag is to be used in squad lists regardless of dual-nationality. Use the primary nationality, ex Kevin Kuranyi was born in Brazil and has Brazilian citizenship but his primary nationality is German. He plays for and can only play for Germany. Thank you for uploading File:Logo of FC Metallurg Lipetsk.gif. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

National flags in players' infoboxes

Please stop adding flags to players' infoboxes. See for example WP:MOSFLAG#Use of flags for sportspeople or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Archive 20#Flags in club infoboxes (June 2008). --Jaellee (talk) 18:45, 2 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The existing players' template Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Players also doesn't use it. Maybe it should it should be discussed at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football again (the last discussion I found was Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football/Archive_29#Terry_Cooke in March 2009. -- Jaellee (talk) 19:34, 2 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
And I will wait and see what happens if users start adding the flags in the national team section. Some consensus in one or the other direction will be reaches then. --Jaellee (talk) 20:09, 2 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Another heads up for you

Stop in over here Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_German_football#FC_Bayern_logo and take note of the discussion. You stand to be challenged eventually by one of the local image enforcement bots over the use of team logos, so you need to be aware. You may wish to consider stepping away from the use or be prepared to defend your position when the image police come by - fair warning given.

But hey, other than that detail, pretty nice work! Thanks for contributing. You may be interested in hanging with the folks at Wikipedia:WikiProject_German_football. Wiggy! (talk) 14:44, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

On resolving ambiguities

Hi there! When resolving ambiguities such as one here, could you, please, disambiguate Russian people by their patronymics (instead of occupations). Disambiguating Russians by patronymics is a de-facto standard adopted by WP:RUSSIA; we only use occupations or other means when patronymics are not known. Since you are working on this stuff anyway, it shouldn't make much difference to you, but will save us some cleanup efforts in the future. Thanks!—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 16:13, April 16, 2009 (UTC)

Cool, thanks. I mean I already did disambig the other way (occupations), so will have to move it all around sometime later. I don't quite get why Russian articles should be any different from any other name disambig, but oh well. Geregen2 (talk) 16:15, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
They are not different, really. A patronymic is a part of the full name, and it makes sense not to introduce unnecessary and often hard-to-standardize entities (occupations, in this case) if it is entirely possible to use just the full name instead. Unlike Western middle names, patronymics of Russian people are used and known a lot more often. Anyway, don't worry too much about those you have already finished—there are hundreds, if not thousands, cases that need to be cleaned up anyway. Cheers,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 16:56, April 16, 2009 (UTC)
Actually, NCP is right about patronymics not usually being used in the titles of the articles—we only use them when there is ambiguity (which is not "usually"). If no ambiguity exists, the article should almost certainly be moved to the title without the patronymic (exceptions are made only the people who are very well-known under their full names—such as Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, for example). However, when two or more (Russian) people share the same first and last name, patronymics are the most natural way to disambiguate between them. The practice is not documented anywhere—no one simply got around to that—but it is rather common. It was discussed on several occasions in the past in various places (mostly around WP:RUSSIA), and I don't recall anyone ever being opposed it.
To clarify further, a patronymic is not a surname. The Tolstaya example does not apply here as it deals with double last names; a patronymic is a modified name of the person's father (see the patronymic article for details). Hope this helps!—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 14:36, April 20, 2009 (UTC)

Dates

Hi, I noticed that you linked a date or two at Russian Cup 1993–94. This practice is now deprecated. Please see WP:LINKING and WP:MOSNUM. I'm happy to respond to any inquiries you may have about the matter. Ohconfucius (talk) 08:19, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Russian footballer stubs

I notice you have been doing great work on adding new stub articles on Russian footballers. One point though, recently new templates were created for a by position split of the stub category so if it is possible could you use one or more of the following {{Russia-footy-goalkeeper-stub}}, {{Russia-footy-defender-stub}}, {{Russia-footy-midfielder-stub}} or {{Russia-footy-striker-stub}}. Just saves me following you round restubbing. Waacstats (talk) 20:52, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Redirects

You have created many redirects which redirect to Georgi Bedoyev. Please explain your reason of creating many redirects on Georgi Bedoyev's talk page. Srinivas 13:17, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there

I had previously also requested you to provide reason for creating many redirects. This time you have done so for Aleksei Gaydenko. Please provide the reason at the talk page Srinivas 14:56, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Creating articles

Hi Geregen2. If you could add the following template into the talk pages of the articles you create, it would be much appreciated. {{football|class=Stub|importance=low}}. Eddie6705 (talk) 17:33, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks :) Eddie6705 (talk) 17:40, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Geregen2! This is to let you know that I disagree with you turning Alexander Stepanov into a redirect page. I believe that the programmer is clearly the primary topic for Alexander Stepanov (spelled with an x), and should therefore be located at that title, with a hatnote linking to the disambiguation page. Regards, decltype (talk) 14:07, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Replied at my page: No, I only changed the redirect. I wanted to hear your opinion before I performed the actual move (since it requires the article to be deleted), in case there was a dispute. Regards, decltype (talk) 14:18, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

reserves' caps and infoboxes

Hello! First of all, you're doing a great work, much appreciated! But you seem to include reserves games in infoboxes of RPFL players, do you know that these stats shouldn't be in an infobox since it's not a part of a professional career? G.n.v.N. (talk) 10:55, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Of course. Thanks! Gorod nad volnoi Nevoi (talk) 19:06, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Valeri Belkin

You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Valeri Belkin requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia.

In specific, your article seems to fail WP:ATHLETE, where the player has not reached the highest level of football (plays in the second division). -- Casmith_789 (talk) 18:52, 23 September 2009 (UTC) For some reason, I misread WP:ATHLETE as 'highest level' as opposed to fully professional, thanks for correcting me :). I have removed the a7 tag and ask for your forgiveness :) Feel free to delete this section if you feel it spams up your talk page. -- Casmith_789 (talk) 19:02, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of "Template:Fb team Kristall Sergach"

A page you created, Template:Fb team Kristall Sergach, has been tagged for deletion, as it meets one or more of the criteria for speedy deletion; specifically, it is a test page. Use the sandbox for testing.

You are welcome to contribute content which complies with our content policies and any applicable inclusion guidelines. However, please do not simply re-create the page with the same content. You may also wish to read our introduction to editing and guide to writing your first article.

Inquiry

Why did you strike "FC MVD Rossii Moscow" in this edit to the Template:Russian First Division? Debresser (talk) 14:38, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your reply. It would be better to add an asteriks with a note explaining this. The way it is now, it looks like vandalism. Debresser (talk) 14:42, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there GEREGEN, VASCO from Portugal here,

Thank you very much for creating so many articles on players for, at least, Recreativo de Huelva and Córdoba CF. I have improved those articles overall, with some links, etc.

I would like, however, to ask you one small favour: i think it is best not to write, in INTRO "X player, as of 2009, plays for Y team", because it will need to be constantly updated, just write instead "X player currently plays for Y team", for example.

Nice teamwork, continue to "produce", have a nice weekend,

VASCO AMARAL - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 01:26, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Good, will do. Geregen2 (talk) 11:06, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Enjoy your weekend, whistle if you have any doubts,

VASCO AMARAL, Portugal - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 22:12, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Regarding this player, yes he is known as CAMPANO, but Zinedine Zidane is known just as ZIDANE, and Wayne Rooney is known just as ROONEY, etc, etc, and they have both names in their pages. For display purposes, first name and surname should be present. For this, please leave the page ALEJANDRO CAMPANO (i have corrected it).

Have a nice week, from Portugal, VASCO AMARAL - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 01:11, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I've removed the PROD you placed on Mamadou Camara because he has played in the Coupe de la Ligue, as it says in his article. Cool, thanks Geregen2 (talk) 20:54, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Geregen2. Thank you for the notice about the proposed deletion of this article. After reviewing his career, I realize he's never played in a fully-pro league, and consequently I've requested speedy deletion. Best regards. Jogurney (talk) 22:16, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just a question

I notice that to the Castilla and Madrid C pages edited Gorka José Unda Velasco and changed it to simply Gorka. Why? Raul17 (talk) 21:50, 16 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Don't know why he was given an article in the first place, and don't know why there was a re-direct. Does this mean that the rest of the players will be done the same way or it was just that someone did that? Raul17 (talk) 22:03, 16 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, in general I don't see a point in having a redlink. But I don't know what the policy is and I don't care too much one way or another. :) 22:05, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

As you say, he's hardly that well known, so nobody is going to know that the the Mikhail Sokolovsky with the patronymic Matveyevich was the composer - as distinct from the football player or the frog sexer - unless we tell them. If there's something interesting to write about, I'll try to write it going forward. Most of those players would just have "played for this team and then for this team and then for that team" in the corresponding article in the Italian wiki, and that information is already in the infobox, so there's no real point in repeating it in the article itself. But I'll pay more attention in the future, thank you! Cheers. Geregen2 (talk) 22:00, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Champions League qualifying rounds articles

Hey man, great work on doing those Champions League qualifying rounds articles. Nice to see someone putting in a bit of hard work. By the way, don't forget you always have to use an endash where it is appropriate. I've corrected the dash usage in the whole of the 2008-09 article and all of what you've done so far for 2007-08, but I'd rather not have to mop up after you forever :-P – PeeJay 22:31, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nice one, man. Also, I forgot to mention that you should use the past tense for things that have already happened; therefore, it should be "Dinamo Zagreb won 4–2 on aggregate", not "Dinamo Zagreb win 4–2 on aggregate". Thanks. – PeeJay 15:10, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey man, thanks for adding the footballboxes for Juventus's matches. Out of interest, do you know why Juve were playing in Milan when they are from Turin? – PeeJay 22:05, 25 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps they played in Milan because the stadium in Milan was bigger than their own stadium and they wanted bigger crowds for the quarter-finals onwards. – PeeJay 22:13, 25 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You moved the above article to 'December' but there was no reference for this date, and it had been changed by a sole contributor back in December 2009. [7] I have moved it back to September. Eldumpo (talk) 15:55, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Toti

A tag has been placed on Toti requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. | Uncle Milty | talk | 12:13, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
