Welcome to Wikipedia!
[edit]Dear GeorgeTheCar,
Welcome to Wikipedia, a free and open-content encyclopedia. I hope you enjoy contributing. To help get you settled in, I thought you might find the following pages useful:
- Five Pillars of Wikipedia
- Community Portal
- Frequently Asked Questions
- How to edit a page
- How to revert to a previous version of a page
- Tutorial
- Copyrights
- Shortcuts
If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}}
on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions.
If you are unsure of how to do something, you are welcome to ask a more experienced user such as an administrator. One last bit of advice: please sign any discussion comment with two hyphens followed by four tildes --~~~~
. The software that runs Wikipedia will automatically convert this into a signature which contains your username and the date and time you posted the message, so other users don't get confused.
I hope I have not overwhelmed you with information. If you need any help just let me know. Once again welcome to Wikipedia, and don't forget to tell us about yourself on your userpage.

Another welcome! (Arnprior, Ontario)
[edit]Hello, glad to see somebody else working on Arnprior's article. Just a couple of tidbits I thought you might be able to use, after noticing your edits yesterday:
- links to other entries here on Wikipedia use double brackets; for example, [[Article]] (Article), while links to pages elsewhere on the internet use single brackets; for example, [http://www.google.com/ Google] (Google). It is helpful if a description (usually the title) is included with your link.
- links are usually intended to provide a source for the information in an article.
If you need any help, please feel free to ask me here. - Cafemusique 05:28, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
Arnprior, Ontario transportation section
[edit]Could you please explain your reasons for insisting on the chronological ordering in the transportation section? It would seem to me that a person looking up a town in an encyclopedia would be expecting to find current information before historical information (except, of course, in a "history" section). It is obvious we disagree; we should discuss the situation in Talk:Arnprior, Ontario to keep a record for future editors of this entry. Thanks. - Cafemusique 04:12, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
- Or maybe there isn't a disagreement, just an edit conflict? Please let me know. - Cafemusique 04:22, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
License tagging for Image:GTC.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:GTC.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 05:06, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Port Credit
[edit]Hello George, I altered the Port Credit article, including your addition of the senior Adamson. Also RVed someone who moved the northern bounds to QEW (again)--probably should have linked to the discussion of a few weeks back.... Bacl-presby 22:11, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Kees Nierop, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://members.shaw.ca/keesnierop/the%20story.htm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.
This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 01:54, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
License tagging for Image:Credit Valley Watershed diagram.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Credit Valley Watershed diagram.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.
For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 03:14, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
File copyright problem with File:Sinfonia_2007_07_27_005.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Sinfonia_2007_07_27_005.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Chris G Bot (talk) 09:36, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
Juno Award
[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. We welcome and appreciate your contributions, including your edits to Juno Award, but we cannot accept original research. Original research also encompasses novel, unpublished syntheses of previously published material. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your information. Thank you. Dl2000 (talk) 23:04, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
I notice that you added what looks like footnote references to List of Canadian Formula Fords, but they don't seem to be connected to anything. Do you have references we can cite in the article? I started the list, but I obtained most of the information informally. There are few published references to cite.
PS: I grew up in Port Credit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. File permission problem with File:Port Credit 1941+.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Port Credit 1941+.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jon Kolbert (talk) 03:52, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
