Welcome to Wikipedia!

[edit]

Hello Geofw, welcome to Wikipedia!

Here are some tips:

If you feel a change is needed, feel free to make it yourself! Wikipedia is a wiki, so anyone (yourself included) can edit any article by following the Edit this page link. Wikipedia convention is to be bold and not be afraid of making mistakes. If you're not sure how editing works, have a look at How to edit a page, or try out the Sandbox to test your editing skills.

If, for some reason, you are unable to fix a problem yourself, feel free to ask someone else to do it. Wikipedia has a vibrant community of contributors who have a wide range of skills and specialties, and many of them would be glad to help. As well as the wiki community pages there are IRC Channels, where you are more than welcome to ask for assistance.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page. Thanks and happy editing, Alphax τεχ 23:25, 8 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the messages and positive feedback. I'm sorry about being part of a somewhat 'bumpy' introduction to Wikipedia, but I'm glad to hear you're having fun, and that you understand why many of us work hard to keep Wikipedia above reproach when it comes to copyrights and whatnot. You might want to look at this sample article to get a quick idea of what Wikipedia articles typically look like, and how some of the common formatting works. Also, I'm always very glad to see new articles about real, interesting people, rather than the random Pokemon and video game, etc. trivia so many people like to add. Oh, and the "Divine" version of the article will probably be deleted in a week or so as part of the standard copyvio processing. Niteowlneils 01:24, 12 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This is the discussion page for an anonymous user who has not created an account yet or who does not use it. We therefore have to use the numerical IP address to identify him/her. Such an IP address can be shared by several users. If you are an anonymous user and feel that irrelevant comments have been directed at you, please create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other anonymous users.

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article William Irvine (Scottish evangelist), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.
