Username
[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Geneocide", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username by completing this form, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Thank you.
The username policy bans usernames that are offensive, including those which reference controversies or are intended to provoke emotional reactions, while I know you didn't mean any offense, I think your username references something far more offensive than a controversy and suggest it be changed to avoid causing unintended offense. If you do not understand why your username could be inappropriate for Wikipedia, please remove this message and leave a message on my talk page requesting clarification. |

I don't think my name is offensive. Whether an individual event will be labelled a genocide is controversial, but the concept of genocide is not. Genocide itself is abhorrent, but the word is not offensive. The policy doesn't say referencing something negative is enough to be a violation.Geneocide (talk) 20:17, 24 June 2017 (UTC)
- My thinking is that if referencing a controversy is a violation, and names intended to provoke emotional reaction are also violations, then a name that references something so abhorrent that it is likely to cause emotional reaction, eaven if not intentional, would also be a violation, but only an admin would really be able to decide this. I personally have no problem with your name but feel that others might be offended. Tornado chaser (talk) 22:34, 24 June 2017 (UTC)
