Welcome

[edit]

Hello, Gemayelc and welcome to Wikipedia! It appears you are participating in a class project. If you haven't done so already, we encourage you to go through our training for students.

Go through our online training for students.

If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Please also read this helpful advice for students.

Before you create an article, make sure you understand what kind of articles are accepted here. Remember: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and while many topics are encyclopedic, some things are not.

Your instructor or professor may wish to set up a course page, if your class doesn't already have one. It is highly recommended that you place this text: {{Educational assignment}} on the talk page of any articles you are working on as part of your Wikipedia-related course assignment. This will let other editors know this article is a subject of an educational assignment and aid your communication with them.

We hope you like it here and encourage you to stay even after your assignment is finished! Chris Troutman (talk) 02:11, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Jastrow

[edit]

Please see Talk:Joseph Jastrow. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 22:52, 12 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Gemayelc, I'm entering my sig several different ways so you can see what they produce ...

Your sig is looking like this:

  • gemayelc 23:18, 12 December 2014 (UTC)

See that there is no link back to you-- that your name is just text? So, it looks like maybe you are entering your name manually followed by five tildes ??? Test the out below ... Best, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 00:12, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Response

[edit]

@SandyGeorgia: Below is what Wikipedia outputs when I use the written number of tildes. I am doing no editing or text input beyond the tildes. Is there an issue with my account, as I have no link back to the account.

  • Two tildes ~~
  • Three tildes gemayelc
  • Four tildes gemayelc 00:24, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
  • Five tildes 00:24, 13 December 2014 (UTC)

gemayelc 00:24, 13 December 2014 (UTC)

'Tis a mystery to me ! I will ask someone else to come over and have a look. Best, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 00:26, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Here you go! Someone should come along to educate both of us :) See here. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 00:44, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'll keep a watch on it. Thanks for all your help! gemayelc 01:30, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
Gemayelc, in your Preferences (a link to your preferences exists at the top of any page), check if you have entered something in the "Signature:" box.
Hope this helps. --Fauzan✆ talk✉ mail 03:08, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That's exactly what I needed to know. Thank you both for the assistance! Gemayelc talk 03:12, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Great, your sig is working now! (Thanks Fauzan.) I have a busy Saturday ahead, but will get to your other queries on article talk as soon as I can. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 10:45, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Article guidelines

[edit]

Hi. A Wikipedia editor, SandyGeorgia, has very helpfully offered some useful guidelines for editing, which are in response to editing by students in your class. All of these may not apply specifically to articles that you have edited, but many of them are likely to be very helpful tools for improving your contributions. Please look over these at Education_Program_talk:University_of_California,_Los_Angeles_(UCLA)/Psychology_220A_(Fall,_2014)#Some_suggestions. Thanks.
