Block of 121.242.99.22

Hello. I noticed you posted a block message on the talk page of 121.242.99.22 (talk · contribs · WHOIS), but I think you forgot to actually block him... Thomas.W talk to me 12:20, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

My block script (which blocks and add the template) wasn't adding the template, but was blocking. Turns out it didn't block either! Thanks for notifying me, sorted now. GedUK  12:34, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
Hello again. Thanks for blocking them. The reason why I see their repeated removal of properly sourced content regarding controversies as more serious than random vandalism is that the IP you just blocked is registered to Tata Communications, Mumbai, India, which since Lavasa is being built by, and AFAIK largely owned by, the Tata Group means that it looks like a deliberate attempt by the Tata Group to remove embarassing information from WP. And it's not only done by this particular IP, but also by both other IPs and SPA user accounts. So there's a relatively high level of vandalism on the article. Gautama Buddha birthplace sources and quotes

Hi Ged UK. Why this move? Anyway, if this page is to be userfied, then better move it to my userspace. Greetings, Joshua Jonathan -Let's talk! 19:12, 2 October 2013 (UTC)

I'm quite happy to move it to your userspace. I just needed to get a hanging talk page with no supporting article out of the mainspace, and it made sense to try to get the talk page to be the talk page of the article draft. Let me know where you want it moved to and I'll move it. GedUK  11:09, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
User:Joshua Jonathan/Gautama Buddha Birthplace sources and qoutes, I guess? Maybe Wikipedia should have an option for "appendices" like this one; it may be usefull when extensive quotes are repeatedly being used in a discussion. Joshua Jonathan -Let's talk! 19:28, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
Done It's at User:Joshua Jonathan/Gautama Buddha Birthplace sources and quotes (spelling) and the talk page is there too. You might want to let the people involved in the discussion know where it is. GedUK  20:43, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
Thanks! Joshua Jonathan -Let's talk! 06:32, 4 October 2013 (UTC)

Spam

Please stop. If you continue spamming Wikipedia, as you did to Camilla Arfwedson, you will be blocked from editing. --Irate652 (talk) 11:53, 4 October 2013 (UTC)

Pardon? I've never edited that page at all. Nobody's edited that page in a fortnight. Oh, nevermind, you're a sock of an indef blocked. Now you're blocked. GedUK  11:57, 4 October 2013 (UTC)

Your warning has been ignored

After your warning about not edit warring, User:Nobody is perfect and i am nobody is back at it without any response to the discussions on their talk page or the article talk page. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 13:48, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

User(s) blocked. GedUK  14:18, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
New user created this morning Life is a game22 (talk · contribs) starts by redirecting Kunchacko Boban to a much larger version Kunchacko Boban (actor). I have undone the redirect and tagged the latter for speedy. The connection to the blocked Nobody is perfect and i am nobody (talk · contribs) is obvious. I believe TheRedPenOfDoom has taken part in an SPI regarding editing in these articles. Best, Sam Sailor Sing 10:35, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
The link isn't leaping out at me, certainly not enough for a DUCK block. They've both edited the same article, but there's only one in common, and they aren't the same edits. The actor in question is very popular so it's possible this is just a new user who was trying to move the page and didn't know how to do it. If you think it warrants a checkuser, then feel free to raise it at SPI, but I'm not convinced it'll get very far based on the current evidence. GedUK  12:06, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

You blocked User:Irate652 as a "confirmed sock puppet", but the investigation page has apparently never existed. Apart from the user's claim to be User:Irate is there other evidence to confirm a link? I'm asking because it looks like an impersonation (and a sock, but not of Irate) and there have been similar contributions from fake bot account User:HolfordBot today. Peter James (talk) 20:55, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

To be honest, that's the template that the block script uses, there was no investigation beyond the one I did in my head. Seemed a reasonable WP:DUCK assessment that it was a sock of Irate, or someone else, and judging by their edits clearly not here to build an encylopedia. GedUK  12:09, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

VisualEditor newsletter on 16 October 2013

VisualEditor is still being updated every Thursday. As usual, what is now running on the English Wikipedia had a test run at Mediawiki during the previous week. If you haven't done so already, you can turn on VisualEditor by going to your preferences and choosing the item, "MediaWiki:Visualeditor-preference-enable".

The reference dialog for all Wikipedias, especially the way it handles citation templates, is being redesigned. Please offer suggestions and opinions at mw:VisualEditor/Design/Reference Dialog. (Use your Wikipedia username/password to login there.) You can also drag and drop references (select the reference, then hover over the selected item until your cursor turns into the drag-and-drop tool). This also works for some templates, images, and other page elements (but not yet for text or floated items). References are now editable when they appear inside a media item's caption (bug 50459).

There were a number of miscellaneous fixes made: Firstly, there was a bug that meant that it was impossible to move the cursor using the keyboard away from a selected node (like a reference or template) once it had been selected (bug 54443). Several improvements have been made to scrollable windows, panels, and menus when they don't fit on the screen or when the selected item moves off-screen. Editing in the "slug" at the start of a page no longer shows up a chess pawn character ("♙") in some circumstances (bug 54791). Another bug meant that links with a final punctuation character in them broke extending them in some circumstances (bug 54332). The "page settings" dialog once again allows you to remove categories (bug 54727). There have been some problems with deployment scripts, including one that resulted in VisualEditor being broken for an hour or two at all Wikipedias (bug 54935). Finally, snowmen characters ("☃") no longer appear near newly added references, templates and other nodes (bug 54712).

Looking ahead: Development work right now is on rich copy-and-paste abilities, quicker addition of citation templates in references, setting media items' options (such as being able to put images on the left), switching into wikitext mode, and simplifying the toolbar. A significant amount of work is being done on other languages during this month. If you speak a language other than English, you can help with translating the documentation.

For other questions or suggestions, or if you encounter problems, please let everyone know by posting problem reports at Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Feedback and other ideas at Wikipedia talk:VisualEditor. Thank you! Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 18:50, 16 October 2013 (UTC)

WP:AIV

Copying text from AIV as I think you may have made an error--Cheers!--KeithbobTalk 11:30, 22 October 2013 (UTC)

No vandalism since final warning. Re-report if this user resumes vandalising. GedUK  11:17, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
Hi User:Ged UK, if you look at the IP's talk page you will see that final warnings were given in both June and September. Also additional vandalism occurred today. (see diffs above) Thanks for all your help. --KeithbobTalk 11:30, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
Can't use final warnings from that far back, as it's an IP, so may well be a different user. They last edited at 9.22 today, and had final warning at 10.44. GedUK  11:32, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
OK, I'm not trying to argue as you are the expert in this area. Just wanting to understand the system so I'm not presenting cases at AIV prematurely and wasting anyone's time. Thanks for the explanation. This system is a lot more nuanced than I thought and each Admin has a slightly different way of handling each situation. Thanks again for you help and all your contribs at WP! --KeithbobTalk 15:32, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
Essentially, you have to remember the point of the warning system is to stop the person vandalising again. With an IP address, especially one that doesn't have a consistent editing pattern, we can't be certain that the person editing *now* is the same person who was editing when the warning was given, if the warning is from the previous day. If it's clearly the same person - they're editing the same articles, or doing the same vandalism on different articles - then we can assume that it's the same person, and block them. There's always a degree of judgement by the patrolling admins, and we probably all have slightly different thresholds about these things, which doesn't make it easier to understand!
But don't worry; better to report early and learn than worry about whether you should report it at all! When in doubt, report it! Thanks for your work :) GedUK  12:29, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

Mahabharat 2013 TV Series Page Edit

Mahabharat (2013 TV series) Hi, GedUK Dear

As I Knows You Are Holding Admin rights here in wiki and you protected the above page for 3 days only and as far as i knows there is a user named TheRedPenOfDoom who also recently edited the page which i added in a manner that he/she want to own the article and not even clearly ready to accepts our good faith work.

recent tiff matter : as may be you knows that there are so many reality television series who holds so many different names and different airing time so same for this show i edited syndicated version section and added air dates for all dubbed versions which started on different dates on different channel and he/she removed all channel names and air dates. as far as i knows if that channels viewer comes over here as redirected page then if you removed there channels name and there air date then they may will get confused that all of them started on same date or not so i added the date and channel names and after that he/she said my work as unnecessary and removed the work where it's actually a good edit for show.

My suggested actions taken by you : i suggest that until hindi versions original air time gets over let page get protected and not protection gets over. give a short warning and even block him/her for few period which you thinks is good for him/her as recently i found he/she also done some kind of reverts on other show and stopped some ip user from editing some data with reverting there works. You are free to take your required actions and i am even not waiting for your answer as in my past run so many times you helped me and given me good guide over so many edits.

data for your knowledge : ip user on same mahabharat page named "124.125.72.177" is myself. my internet holds dynamic ip changing over every re-connect of internet and is ranged from "124.125.72.1" to "124.125.72.199" Hkansagra (talk) 11:44, 24 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi there. Sorry, but I'm struggling to understand what you mean. As far as I can see, RedPenofDoom is trying to make sure the article fits the Wikipedia rules, and to improve the English. Your efforts are good-faith, and nobody is saying you're vandalising, but sometimes the quality of your edits can be improved. That's the key part of Wikipedia. GedUK  11:25, 25 October 2013 (UTC)

no, dear i am not saying that he/she is calling me a vandal and i even understands his/her work only leads that it fits wikipedia rules but in below lines let me explain to you the full thing in detail then you will say that ya 100% my work does not need that edit.

the show mahabharat is currently on air in 5 different language and star plus is main creator of the show and page is also created according to it but what if other channels like star jalsa, asianet, star pravah and star vijay who airs other dubbing there pages are redirects here and if you even removes there channel names mentioned in article then from how come they come to know that this show belongs to there channels or not. secondly all of them does not started on same day so if you removes there start date on there dubbing section then how come they come to know that when there version is started airing on tv. that is the main reason that after a week of wait for let other do same thing i deed 3 days of research and to let it not look ugly i added it by international reality show's page format where each country's name date host and many other details added. he/she says same well fit data a unrequired data. the simple example is if you comes from bigg boss india page to a show page that bigg boss india is adapted from this show but same big brother page has no mention that bigg boss india belongs to this same format and this are there air dates.

the other things he/she pointed on my edit is that if channel named star pravah airs dubbing of the show and from it's own network official maintained site has page and if i added it then how come it become not valid when there is so many shows airs on same networks other channel named star utsav who officially announced that they will only run repeats of star plus and life ok and never create own production is become vaild official link and official dubbing but not repeats become unofficial.

one of the recent thing reverted is with image has long in width making info table stretched in width so i have shrink it's width to fit it's place proper and where is the rule in wikipedia that this fitting is good or not good. there is no rules about it.

i have one bad habit is to write in sentence case sometime so he/she can correct my grammar of that case error or without hurting feel of what word wants to say but how can you totally say some data which are official and good faith for there viewing experience makes not required data and hurting any site rules. Hkansagra (talk) 07:47, 26 October 2013 (UTC)

Update

Before you answer my words to you even not just he/she(the redpenofdhoom user) few other reviewer come to banish my same work even after in one of edit in summary i entered short message that regarding same edit matter i am in chat with you so let they first come here and read what we are in talk with and where we reached and as far as i researched all of the reviewer came there was holding "twinkle" software and reviewer rights but as far as i knows your rights is senior to them so as friend i need your advise on what i do next and to protect my this kind such a good work and you as holder of admin right has to act from both sides and give us proper guide before we end this dispute and bake off from this matter for forever period. there work as far as i researched on some page appears(not has) vandal but when i will say to them they will never going to accept the fact that they need to cool down there speed of edit. Hkansagra (talk) 18:28, 26 October 2013 (UTC)

There are guidelines that already exist about which air dates to show. This is part of the Manual of Style that Wikipedia uses. The closest bit about broadcast dates is Wikipedia:TVINTL. I can't see anything that covers this specific instance (same country multiple languages). The best place to raise that would be Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Television. You also have to remember that Wikipedia is not a TV Guide; we shouldn't list every single fact about it. Nor should be be expecting readers to come here to find out what channel a show is currently on. There's better websites and paper guides for that. I hope this helps. GedUK  13:06, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

Barnstar

I wish to give you a barnstar for the Cryptozology pages that you have contributed to. How do I do this? Thank you.

There should be a tab at the top of any user's talk page called 'Wikilove'. Press that and follow. I don't actually remember ever contributing to that page though. GedUK  12:22, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
